It was nothing to run to a drive-through to pick up a cold drink or a quick bite to eat. It was so easy to use my card for a small purchase. For me, I got a lot of satisfaction from fast food.‎ One day I sat down and calculated that I was spending a surprising $40 a week on fast food. This was a lot of iced coffee and hamburgers! Instead of reducing my guilty pleasures, I decided to ‎ give myself a strong budget to reduce my consumption. Every Monday I placed an envelope with $20 in my purse. That was my fast food budget for the entire week. If there was anything left over at the end of the week, it was mine to save or spend. If I spent all of the money during the week, there were no more fast food stops that week.‎ The budget made me more mindful of my purchases. Instead of purchasing a large drink from Sonic, I would purchase a small. It was still satisfying but not nearly as pricey. Instead of eating a whole meal, I would pick the part that I actually wanted. Many days, the thought of hanging onto the money for a special purpose meant more to me than the instant satisfaction of fast food. I never really felt unhappy because it was a conscious choice to spend or save with each purchase.‎ Envelope budget kept me honest. I had a clear idea how much money was spent each week on fast food purchases. I started to bring my lunches more often to save more money for the week. It was a fun challenge to see how much I could save every week.‎ Changing the way I spent on fast food not only helped my budget, but improved my weight. In the first month I was able to get rid of 5 pounds by simply changing the way I approached spending on fast food. Now I am more likely to bring my lunch than to buy it. I am not upset, but empowered to make positive choices to improve my life.‎ 1. According to Paragraph 1, the author ______.‎ A. had no time to cook for herself B. was fond of fast food very much C. lived with a small amount of money D. got some benefits from using her card 2. The author set her envelope budget to______.‎ A. buy fast food at a good bargain B. save money to buy more fast food C. make fast food spending under control ‎ D. get rid of the habit of eating fast food 3. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. Why the author became addicted to fast food.‎ B. Why the author took envelope budget seriously.‎ C. How fast food controlled the author’s behavior.‎ D. How envelope budget changed the author’s life.‎ B Why do we laugh and get amusement from so many different things, from puns (双关语) to pratfalls? Why are some things funny to some people and not to others? How is that while a successful joke can cause pleasure, a sick one can cause serious harm?‎ Over the centuries, various scholars have attempted to produce a universally agreed-upon theory of humor. Plato and Aristotle introduced the superiority theory, the idea that people laugh at the misfortune of others. Their theory seems to explain teasing, but it doesn’t work well for knock-knock jokes. Sigmund Freud argued for his relief theory, the concept that humor is a way for people to release psychological tension and reveal their inner fears and desires. His theory works well for dirty jokes, less well for most puns.‎ The majority of humor experts today agree with the incongruity theory, the idea that humor arises when there’s a gap between what people expect to happen and what actually happens. Incongruity has a lot going for it — jokes with unexpected funny lines, for example, fit well. But scientists have found that in comedy, unexpectedness is overvalued.‎ With the goal of developing a new, more satisfactory explanation, I produced “the gentle ‎ violation theory”, the idea that humor arises when something seems wrong or threatening, but is actually OK or safe. A dirty joke, for example, trades on moral or social violations, but it’s only going to get a laugh if the person listening is open enough to consider the subject OK to talk about. Similarly, puns can be seen as linguistic violations that still make grammatical sense.‎ And while most humor theories have struggled to account for tickling (挠痒痒), or just avoided the phenomenon altogether, my theory accounts for even this kind of laughter. Tickling involves violating someone’s physical space in a gentle way. People can’t tickle themselves — because it isn’t a violation.‎ 1. What is the author’s attitude towards Plato and Aristotle’s theory?‎ A. Critical. B. Approving C. uncaring D. Unclear 2. According to Sigmund Freud’s theory, we can infer that __________.‎ A. people will laugh when they see others suffer B. telling dirty jokes is a relief of one’s nervous feelings C. unexpectedness can explain how humor works D. tickling doesn’t involve psychological tension 3. According to the author, why are some things funny to some people but not to others?‎ A. Because the sense of humor varies greatly from person to person. ‎ B. Because people have different expectations for the same thing. ‎ C. Because some people lack the sense of safety deep in their heart. ‎ D. Because people’s understanding of violation is different. ‎ 4. What is the author’s main purpose of writing this passage?‎ A. To draw people’s attention to the research of humor. ‎ B. To criticize people’s misconceptions about humor. ‎ C. To explain what exactly causes people to laugh. ‎ D. To prove the sense of humor can be developed. ‎ C Cigarette ends are everywhere—littering our streets and beaches—and for decades they’ve been thought of as “unrecyclable”. But a New Jersey based company, called TerraCycle, has taken on the challenge, and has come up with a way to recycle millions of cigarette ends and turn them into industrial plastic products. Its aim is to recycle things that people normally consider impossible to reuse.‎ Obviously it would be even better for the environment if everyone just stopped smoking, but the statistics show that although there has been an increase in anti-smoking ads and messaging, between 2000 and 2014, global sales of cigarettes increased by 8 percent, and a whole lot of those cigarette ends are ending up as trash. Since most of our litter eventually ends up in waterways, cigarette ends can surely pollute the surrounding environment. “It only takes a single cigarette end to pollute a liter of water,” TerraCycle founder, Tom Szaky, said. “Animals can also mistake littered cigarette ends for food.”‎ So how do you go about turning all those poisonous ends into something useful? TerraCycle does this by first breaking them down into separate parts. They mix the remaining materials, such as the tobacco and the paper, with other kinds of rubbish, and use it on non-agricultural land, such as golf courses. The filters (过滤嘴) are a little harder. To recycle these, TerraCycle first makes them clean and cuts them into small pieces, and then combines them with other recycled materials, making them into liquid for industrial plastic products. ‎ They’re now also expanding their recycling offerings to the rest of the 80 percent of household waste that currently can’t be recycled, such as chocolate packaging, pens, and mobile phones. The ‎ goal is to use the latest research to find a way to stop so much waste ending up in landfill (垃圾填埋), and then get companies to provide money for the process. And so far, it’s working.‎ 1. What does TerraCycle intend to do?‎ A. Search for recyclable materials for use.‎ B. Deal with as many cigarette ends as possible.‎ C. Produce new kinds of industrial plastic products.‎ D. Recycle what used to be considered unrecyclable.‎ 2. The underlined word “trash” in Paragraph 2 probably means ______.‎ A. rubbish B. poison C. disaster D. ruin 3. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?‎ A. The effective use of cigarette ends.‎ B. The process of recycling cigarette ends.‎ C. The difficulty in recycling cigarette ends. ‎ D. The reason for breaking down cigarette ends.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ We all face quantities of stresses in day-to-day living, whether at work, in the home, or anywhere in between. ______31______ Here’s how stress can help us on an everyday basis.‎ ◇ Sharpening your memory.‎ Did you ever notice that sometimes when you are stressed, your memory seems to improve? He is willing to help the young who want to pursue their dreams. We are always curious about the reason behind and one day he told us his story.‎ When Monty was young, he was the son of an itinerant (游荡的) horse trainer who would go from stable to stable, race track to race track, farm to farm and ranch to ranch, training horses. As a result, his high school career was continually interrupted. When he was a senior, he was asked to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.‎ That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of owning a horse ranch someday. He wrote about his dream in great detail and he even drew a diagram of a 200-acre ranch, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables and the track. Then he drew a detailed floor plan for a 4,000-square-foot house that would sit on a 200-acre dream ranch.‎ He put a great deal of his heart into the project and the next day he handed it in to the teacher. Two days later he received his paper back. On the front was a large red F with a note that read, “See me after class.”‎ The boy with the dream went to see the teacher after class and asked, “Why did I receive an F?”‎ The teacher said, “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You have no money. You come from an itinerant family. You have no resources. Owning a horse ranch requires a lot of money. You have to buy the land. You have to pay for the original breeding stock and later you’ll have to pay large stud (马群) fees. There’s no way you could ever do it.” Then the teacher added, ‘If you rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal, I will reconsider your grade.”‎ 注意:1. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ The boy went home and thought about it long and hard.‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph2:‎ Twenty years later, the teacher brought 30 students to camp out on his ranch for a week.‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ 参考答案:‎ 第一部分:听力(共两节, 满分30分)‎ ‎1-5 BABCA 6-10 CCBAC 11-15 BABAB 16-20 CBBAC 第二部分:阅读理解(共两节, 满分35分)‎ 第一节(共10个小题;每小题2.5分, 满分25分)‎ ‎21-23 BCD 24-27 ABDC 28-30 DAB 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ ‎31-35 GDAEF 第三部分:语言运用(共两节, 满分45分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20个小题;每小题1.5分, 满分30分)‎ ‎41-45.
