‎2019版高考英语阅读理解一轮提升选练(11)‎ 李仕才 A It's generally believed that people act the way they do because of their personalities and attitudes. They recycle their garbage because they care about the environment. They pay $5 for a caramel brulée latte because they like expensive coffee drinks.‎ It's undeniable that behavior comes from our inner dispositions(性情),but in many instances we also draw inferences about who we are, as suggested by the social psychologist Daryl Bem, by observing our own behavior. We can be strangers to ourselves. If we knew our own minds, why would we need to guess what our preferences are from our behavior? If our minds were an open book, we would know exactly how much we care about the environment or like lattes. Actually, we often need to look to our behavior to figure out who we are.‎ Moreover, we don't just use our behavior to learn about our particular types of character — we infer characters that weren't there before. Our behavior is often shaped by little pressures around us, which we fail to recognize. Maybe we recycle because our wives and neighbors would disapprove if we didn't. Maybe we buy lattes in order to impress the people around us. We should not mistakenly believe that we always behave as a result of some inner disposition.‎ Whatever pressures there can be or inferences one can make, people become what they do, though it may not be in compliance(符合) with their true desires. Therefore, we should all bear in mind Kurt Vonnegut's advice: "We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be."‎ ‎1.According to the passage, personalities and attitudes are commonly believed to    .‎ A. determine one's behavior B. reflect one's taste C. influence one's surroundings D. result from one's habits ‎2.Which of the following would Daryl Bem most probably agree with?‎ A. home 11‎ ‎ ownership,a good job, retirement security or each generation doing better than the last.‎ Yet today, this concept seems to have greatly changed. As Time magazine pointed out, quite different from the older generation, many Millennials (the generation born after 1980) redefine (重新定义) the American Dream as “daytoday control of your life”.They “prize job mobility, flexible schedules, any work generation.Meanwhile, nearly 40% of them choose travel as part of their dream. And entrepreneurship (创业) is a rising favorite,as nearly 26% of Millennials consider selfemployment as part of their dream.‎ So what has led to this huge change?‎ Many point fingers at the poor economy.“Modern young Americans seem bound to face a world stamped by ever narrowing opportunity and social stagnation(停滞),”noted The Daily Beast.‎ ‎“The rate of Millennials out of school and out of work is unusually high at 15%.Many college graduates have taken jobs that don’t require a degree,”Time reported.‎ The magazine worries that these difficulties may lead to a lost generation who are “unable to ever truly find their feet on the corporation’s ladder”.‎ Dan Kadlec,a reporter of Time, sees Millennials as resetting their expectations.“This situation is different for young adults today,”he wrote.“A true American dream has to feel attainable, and many Millennials are feeling they can only teenagers were studying to get into a top university, one 19yearold boy was starring in his first movie, Blue Gate Crossing. It was a film about love on campus and it was well received in Taiwan. Many say it was this film that put Bolin Chen in position for his later glittering career in show business.‎ In fact, it was not until he played a troubled young man in the movie Buddha‎ ‎Mountain that he regained his passion for acting.‎ While being called a “youth idol” may seem like a compliment, it is a title that Chen has tried to shake off. He believes that a youth idol means you simply rely ‎ 11‎ on your appearance, not your acting talent.‎ The most important thing for Chen now is to take more initiative (主动性) as an actor. “To me, an actor is like a chess piece, waiting for producers and directors to put him somewhere they want him to be,” Chen, told NetEase. “But I want to be the game player.” He even took his ambition a step further —setting up his own production company.‎ But just when Chen started to focus on offscreen work, his life on screen took another turn. He won the title of Best Leading Actor at the 2012 Golden Bell Awards on Oct. 26 for his role in hit TV drama In Time with You. When asked why he accepted the part, which is another “youth idol” role, he told Yangcheng Evening News,“I played it for my grandfather. He told everyone around that I am an actor, but I used to play in movies, not TV series. Now he is in the hospital. I hope that he can watch my performances by simply turning on the TV.”‎ Chen is a veteran(老手) in the entertainment world, but unlike many stars, he hasn’t led a luxurious life. He doesn’t even have a car but walks, rides a bike or takes a taxi whenever he goes out. He doesn’t have a house, either. “Everyone will eventually find some place to live anyway, why bother to buy property (地产) ?” he asked Taiwan magazine Business Today.‎ ‎1.What does Bolin Chen think of his title “youth idol”?‎ A.He likes it very much.‎ B.He thinks it a compliment.‎ C.He wants to get rid of it.‎ 11‎ D.He is not worthy of it.‎ ‎2.Bolin Chen’s words in Para. 4 suggest that he ______.‎ A.likes to play games such as chess B.wants to take an active part in producing his films C.cannot get along well with some directors D.thinks producers are more important in making a film ‎3. If nothing goes wrong, you will feel angry about other’s staring at you that way.Eyes do convey information, right?‎ Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. But things are different when it comes to staring at the opposite sex.If a man looks at a woman for more than 10 seconds and refuses to turn away his gaze(注视),his intentions are obvious. That is,he wishes to attract her attention,to make her understand that he is showing affection for her.‎ However, the normal eye contact for two people engaged in conversation is that the speaker will only look at the listener from time to time, in order to make sure that the listener does pay attention to what the former is speaking, to tell him that he is attentive.‎ If a speaker looks at you continuously when speaking,as if he tries to control you, you will feel uneasy.A poor liar usually exposes himself by looking too long at the victim, since he believes the false idea that to look straight in the eye is a sign of honest communication.‎ In fact, continuous eye contact happens between lovers only, who will enjoy 11‎ ‎ looking at each other tenderly for a long time, to show love that words cannot express.‎ Evidently, eye contact should be done according to the relationship between two people and the specific situation.‎ ‎1.What may a person usually do on a bus?‎ A.Glance at a stranger with eye contact.‎ B.Use eyes to talk to a stranger politely.‎ C.Glance at a stranger without eye contact.‎ D.Talk to a stranger politely after a quick glance.‎ ‎2.What does it mean if a man looks at a woman for over 10 seconds?‎ A.He likes her eyes.‎ B.He admires her.‎ C.He knows her well.‎ D.He makes contact with her.‎ ‎3.Why is a poor liar easy to be seen through?‎ A.He thinks that he is honest.‎ B.He wants to control the victim.‎ C.He feels uneasy about others’ eye contact.‎ D.He looks straight at the victim for too long a time.‎ ‎4.What may be the best title for the text?‎ A.Eyes Can Speak B.Eye Contact Matters C.Don’t Stare at Others D.Use Your Eye Contact 参考答案1—4、CBDA 11‎
