Students at the National University of Singapore were surprised to find that the soft drinks company had placed the machines in their university overnight. But instead of the drinks brand’s logo(徽标), the words “Hug Me” are written across its red-and-white logo. Instead of paying money, customers have to hug the drinks machine to receive a free can of Coke.‎ The special idea is part of the company’s Open Happiness campaign which is designed to aim at young people. Showing love in public is uncommon and has long been discouraged in Singapore, but is on the rise among young people.‎ In a statement as part of the company’s Open Happiness campaign, Leonardo O’Grady, Coke’s Asia Pacific Director, said, “So far as we know, happiness can be spread. The Coca-Cola Hug Machine is a simple idea to spread some happiness. Our plan is to deliver happiness in an unexpected, creative way to invite more people to join in the campaign.” Marketing ideas behind the campaign hope that it will encourage consumers to “bring positivism, optimism and fun into their lives” and to “open a Coke and share a little happiness”.‎ The machines have been such a success that there are plans to roll them out across Asia. Mr O’Grady added, “To our excitement, the reaction was as amazing as what we had expected. At one point we had four to five people hugging the machine at the same time as well as each other! Expressions such as “people mountain people sea”, means extremely crowded, and “give you some color to see”, meaning a punishment, are widely known and recognized.‎ Chinglish has been attracting global attention in recent years as China grows rapidly in stature on the world stage, attracting both fans and detractors.‎ The Beijing Speaks Foreign Languages Programme and English First China Company, a language trainer known as EF Education, jointly launched a campaign to root out poor grammar and misused vocabulary in downtown Beijing. They argue Chinglish is an embarrassment that we should let it die out at all costs.‎ ‎“It is meaningful, to allow the capital show its most beautiful historical and cultural heritage to the world,” Michael Lu, vice-president of EF Education said. “Since the launching of the campaign, foreign teachers and students had been very keen to volunteer participation.” He believed signs were very important in public services. “The signs in some old buildings confused foreign visitors.” ‎ Chinglish, although the target of much criticism, has also won supporters who regard it as an interesting way for foreigners to learn how Chinese people think and express themselves.‎ ‎“Many Chinglish logos carry Chinese elements and they will enrich the English language,” 32-year-old Oliver Radtke said. He had even published a book Chinglish: Found in Translation, on the subject. About 50,000 copies of the book have been sold since it was published in 2007.‎ Some Chinese university experts also side with Chinglish. “English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and Spanish in its growth, and the emergence of Chinglish again testifies to the language’s vitality and inclusiveness,” said Shi Anbin, an associate professor of Tsinghua University.‎ ‎( )25. However, there are two opposing opinions about whether there should be so many tests for Senior Three students. ‎ People who agree with it believe that tests can improve student’ state of mind. Also, they can help them find where they are weak and therefore better learning methods are adopted. What’s more, tests make it possible for students to gain access to questions of new type.‎ On the other hand, those who are against it think that there must be difficulty in choosing proper test papers. In practice, too hard exams may lead to students losing heart and too easy ones may disturb students’ reviewing plans and normal teaching plans, which is not beneficial to the improvement of students.‎ In my opinion, proper tests are of great necessity for students. Tests can help create a good learning atmosphere for students, which serves as a good preparation for the college entrance examination, both physically and mentally.‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
