Jonathan Socher and his wife Daphne started the kite factory in 1980. Their kites are made of nylon(尼龙).Their designs are Hawaiian themes created by Daphne. The designs are cut out of the nylon with a hot knife that seals the edges and then fastened directly onto the kite. ‎ The kite that is used to give lessons is a regular diamond kite with a rainbow pattern. The difference between this kite and the ones they make during the lessons is that it is a two-string controllable kite. Big Wind employees fly the kite and for a few minutes show students how pulling on one line and then on the other controls the direction the kite goes in. It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person's character. 72 He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.‎ The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung's compensation theory. Jung, a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer. 73 Thus, people who think too highly of themselves may dream about falling; those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.‎ Using more recent research, William Domhoff from the University‎ of ‎California found that dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans. , 74 Until they reach age five, they can not express very well what their dreams are about. Once people become adults, there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance,‎ The characters that appear in the dreams of men are often other men, and often involve physical aggression.‎ The meaning of dreams continues to be difficult to understand. 75 If you dream that a loved one is going to die, do not panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that your loved one is going to die.‎ ‎ A.Dreams make up for what is lacking in waking life.‎ ‎ B.However, people should not take their dreams as reality.‎ ‎ C.They have been considered as meaningless nighttime journeys.‎ ‎ D.It gives scientists chances to better understand human mind.‎ ‎ E.Children do not dream as much as adults.‎ ‎ F.They think their mind is trying to tell them something.‎ ‎ G.First, there was Sigmund Freud’s theory.‎ 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共35分)‎ 注意:将答案写在答题卡上。 ‎ ‎ In the traffic court of a large mid-western city, a young lady is brought before the judge to answer a ticket given her for drive through a red light. How do I know bow much it costs? How do I know when I need tickets, and where to get them? What track.what line.Which direction, where's the stop, and will I get wet when we go under the river?‎ I'm writing this right now on an airplane .a mean, we didn't try on our Transportation Days and .we now know, the dirtiest and most polluting of them all.My flight touted me through Philadelphia .My multimoda1 mom met me for dinner in The airport. She took a train m meet me.‎ ‎60.Which was forbidden by Mm on Transportation Days?‎ ‎ A.Having a car ride.‎ ‎ B.Taking the train twice.‎ ‎ C.Buying more d m ate toy.‎ ‎ D.Touring the historic district.‎ ‎61.According to the writs.what was the greatest benefit of bet Transportation bays?‎ ‎ A.Building confidence in herself.‎ ‎ B.Reducing bee use of private am.‎ ‎ C.Developing her sense of direction.‎ ‎ D.Giving her knowledge about vehicles.‎ ‎62.The underlined word 'paralyzed ‘ (in Pares 5) is closes in morning to“ ”‎ ‎ A.displayed ‎ B.justified ‎ C.ignored ‎ D.ruined ‎63.Which means of transportation does the writer probably disapprove of?‎ ‎ A.Airplane.‎ ‎ B.Subway.‎ ‎ C.Tram.‎ ‎ D.Car.‎ C It was a simple letter asking for a place to study at Scotland's oldest university which helped start a revolution in higher education.A 140-ycar-old letter written by a lady calling for her to be allowed to study medicine at St Andrews University has been discovered by researchers.Written by Sophia Jex-Blake in 1873, the seven-page document, which urged the university to allow women to study medicine at the institution, was released yesterday on International Women's Day.‎ The document was buried in the university archives(档案)by part-time history student Lis Smith, who is completing her PhD at St Andrews Institute of Scottish I listorical Research. She said: "We knew that Sophia Jex-Blake and her supporters, in their effort to open up university medical education for women, had written t0 the Senatus Academicus(校评议委员会) at St Andrews in an attempt to gain permission to attend classes there, but we didn't know documentary evidence existed. While searching the archives for information certificate for women, I was astonished to come across Jex-Blake wrote." about the university's higher what must be the very letter Jex-Blake.”‎ ‎ In the letter.Sophia and her supporters offered to hire teachers or build suitable buildings for a medical school and to arrange for lectures' 7o be delivered in the subjects not already covered at St Andrews.Although her letter was not successful, it eventually led to the establishment of the Ladies Literate in Arts at St Andrews, a distance-learning degree for women. The qualification, which ran from 1877 until the 1930s, gave women access to university education in the days before they were admitted as students. It was so popular that it survived long after women were admitted as full students to St Andrews in 1892.‎ ‎ Ms Jcx-Blake went on to help establish the London School of Medicine for Women in 1874.She was accepted by the University of Berne, where she was awarded a medical degree in January 1877.Eventually, she moved back to Edinburgh and opened her own practice.‎ ‎64.Sophia wrote a letter to St Andrews University because she wanted ‎ ‎ A.to carry out a research project there ‎ B.to set up a medical institute there ‎ C.to study medicine there ‎ D.to deliver lectures there ‎65.Lis Smith found Sophia's letter to St Andrcws University ‎ ‎ A.by pure chance ‎ B.in the school office ‎ C.with her supporters' help ‎ D.while reading history books ‎66.Sophia's letter resulted in the establishment of ‎ ‎ A.the London‎ ‎School of Medicine for Women ‎ B.a degree programme for women ‎ C.a system of medical education ‎ D.the University of l3eme ‎67.When did $t andrews Univesity begin to take full-time women students?‎ ‎ A.In 1873‎ ‎ B.In 1874.‎ ‎ C.In 1877.‎ ‎ D.In 1892.‎ D How is it that siblings(兄弟姐妹) can turn out so diffcrcntly? One answer is that in fact each sibling grows up in a different family. The firstborn is, for a while, an only child, and therefore has a completely different experience of the parents than those born later. The next child is, for a while, the youngest, until the situation is changed by a new arrival. The mother and father themselves arc changing and growing up too.One sibling might live in a stable and close family in the first few years; another might be raised in a family crisis, with a disappointed mother or an angry father.‎ Sibling competition was identified as an important shaping force as early as in 1918.But more recently, researchers have found many ways in which brothers and sisters are a lasting force in each others' lives.Dr.Annette Henderson says firstborn children pick up vocabulary more quickly than their siblings. The reason for this might be that the later children aren't getting the same one-on-one time with parents. But that doesn't mean that the younger children have problems with language development.Later-boors don't enjoy that much talking time with parents, but instead they harvest lessons from bigger brothers and sisters, learning entire phrases and getting an understanding of social concepts such as the difference between "I" and "me”.‎ A Cambridge University study of 140 children found that siblings created a rich world of play that helped them grow socially.Love-hate relationships were common among the children.Even those siblings who fought the most had just as much positive communication as the other sibling pairs.‎ One way children seek more attention from parents is by making themselves different from their siblings, particularly if they are close in age.Researchers have found that the first two children in a family are typically more different from each other than the second and third.Girls with brothers show their differences to a maximum degree by being more feminine than girls with sisters.A 2003 research paper studied adolescents from 185 families over two years, finding that those who changed to make themselves different from their siblings were successful in increasing the amount of warmth they gained from their parents.‎ ‎68.The underlined part "in a different family" (in Para.1) means“______________”。‎ ‎ A.in a different family environment ‎ B.in a different family tradition ‎ C.in different family crises ‎ D.in different families ‎69.In terms of language development, Iater-borns __________.‎ ‎ A.get their parents' individual guidance ‎ B.learn a lot from their eider siblings ‎ C.experience a lot of difficulties ‎ D.pick up words more quickly ‎70.What was found about fights among siblings?‎ ‎ A.Siblings hated fighting and loved playing.‎ ‎ B.Siblings in some families fought frequently.‎ ‎ C.Sibling fights led to bad sibling relationships.‎ ‎ D.Siblings learned to get on together from tights.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最正确选项。选项中有两项为多余项。‎ ‎ 71 I thought I might be the only person left in the world who hadn’t done an eBay deal. So, I decided to try my hand at online auction(拍卖).‎ Buying for beginners: Sign up on www, ebay.co.uk.Most items (e.g.tables, computers, and books) ready for auction will come with a picture and a short description; others may be marked with “buy it now” and have a fixed price. 72 ‎ If the item is being auctioned ,you offer the highest price you are prepared to pay and eBay bids (出价)for you.The bid will be increased little by little until it goes beyond your highest bid, then you are emailed and asked if you would like to bid again.Auction last up to 10 days and when they finish you get an email telling you whether you have won the item.‎ ‎ 73 Sellers decide how they would like to be paid and you need to check this before placing a bid as you might not want to post a cheque or postal orders. The easiest way is through PayPal, an online payment system that takes the money away from your credit card.‎ Selling made simple: if you plan to sell on eBay, it helps to include a picture of the item.I followed my friends’ advice and put up the items I wanted to sell for a 10-day auction, starting on a Thursday. 74 ‎ The big things in life: it’s easy to post a small item, but furniture is a big part of eBay and this has to be collected or sent by deliverymen. 75 ‎ ‎ A.How to pay:‎ ‎ B.Pay exact money before buying.‎ ‎ C.You can buy these right away.‎ ‎ D.Make sure of the item you want to buy.‎ ‎ E.Everyone is at it, even my neighbors.‎ ‎ F.Check the ways of the delivery before you bid.‎ ‎ G.This way buyers had two weekends to bid.‎ 第Ⅱ卷(非选择题 共35分)‎ 注意:将答案写在答题卡上。 ‎ This morning I got up early and went to school as usually, only to find there were nobody in the classroom because it is Sunday.“How a bad memory I have!” I couldn’t help laughing.Stand in front of the school gate, I began to wonder what to do next.Suddenly a good idea occurs to me.“Why not get together with some good friends for a picnic in such a fine weather?” I immediately telephoned some of my best friends, but they all agreed to join me.About two hours late, we finally arrived a pleasant park with trees and flowers here and there. We really enjoyed us greatly.‎ 第二节 书面表达(满分25)‎ ‎ 某英语报社开辟了中学生习作专栏。本期的话题是:注重外貌日常学习、工作和生活中的细节。因为细节往往决定成败。请你以“We Should Pay Much Attention to Details”为题,用英语写一篇短文,谈谈自己的一些看法。‎ 注意: 1.词数100左右;‎ ‎ 2.短文中不能出现本人相关信息。‎ We Should Pay Much Attention to Details ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ 参考答案 ‎1—5 BACCA 6—10 ABCBC 11—‎15 ‎ABCBA 16—20 CBABC ‎21-25 ADCDB 26-30 AACBD ‎31-35 CBADB 36-40 BDCAD 41-45 BADAC 46-50 ADBCC 51-55 ABDCB A篇:56.A 57.B 58.C 59.B B篇:60.B 61.A 62.D 63.A C篇:64.C 65.A 66.B 67.D D篇:68.A 69.B 70.D ‎ ‎71-75 ECAGF 短文改错1.usually- usual 2.were- was 3.how- what 4.stand-standing ‎ ‎5.occurs-occurred 6.such a 7.but-and 8.late- later ‎ ‎9.arrived∧at 10.us-ourselves ‎【参考范文】‎ One Possible Version:‎ We Should Pay Much Attention to Details Some people may think that one who wants to achieve great success shouldn’t pay much attention to details. But sometimes it is the details that determine our success, for they may be the very thing that has a great impact on what we’re doing.‎ Since we have realized the importance of details, what should we do? First, we should form the habit of being careful, because a careful person will rarely overlook details. What’s more, we should learn to keep the balance of quantity and quality. We may find that when faced with lots of work, the faster we do it, the more mistakes we will make. Why? Because when we work at high speed, the only thing we care about is quantity in which case we are more likely to neglect the details.‎ As far as I’m concerned, we should keep it in mind that quality comes first, without which quantity is of no significance.‎ 听力录音材料 第一节 ‎ 听下面五段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最正确选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。‎ Text 1 ‎ M: Is there anything you like doing?‎ W: I love playing very much, and sometimes I also write. And I’m very fond of music.I play the piano and I enjoy listening to music, too.‎ Text 2‎ M: Right.Class.There is some changes to your exam timetable.Your maths exam will be changed to the next day.‎ W: You mean the 18th?‎ M: Yes.And the exam will start and end one hour earlier.‎ Text 3‎ W: Don’t forget to write to me.Jason.‎ M: I won’t.But let me make sure I have the right address. Is it 42 Eastdrive Birmingham?‎ W: That’s right.By the way, my office number has changed since I began to work at Morrison.‎ M: Has it? These 30 fantastic lectures are designed to provide students with an understanding of arithmetic and to prepare them for Algebra(代数) and beyond.‎ The lessons in Basic Math cover every basic aspect of arithmetic. They also look into exponents(指数), the order of operations, and square roots. In addition to learning how to perform various mathematical operations, students discover why these operations work, how a particular mathematical topic relates to other branches of mathematics, and how these operations can be used practically.‎ Basic Math starts from the relatively easier concepts and gradually moves on to the more troublesome ones, so as to allow for steady and sure understanding of the material by students. The lectures offer students the chance to “make sense” of mathematical knowledge that may have seemed so frightening. They also help students prepare for college mathematics and overcome their anxiety about this amazing—and completely understandable—field of study.‎ By the conclusion of the course, students will have improved their understanding ‎ of basic math. They will be able to clear away the mystery(神秘性) of mathematics and face their studies with more confidence than they ever imagined. In addition, they will strengthen their ability to accept new and exciting mathematical challenges.‎ Professor H. Siegel, honored by Kentucky Educational Television as “the best math teacher in America,” is a devoted teacher and has a gift for explaining mathematical concepts in ways that make them seem clear and obvious. From the basic concrete ideas to the more abstract problems, he is master in making math lectures learner-friendlier and less scary.‎ With a PhD in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University, Dr. Siegel teaches mathematics at Central‎ Arizona ‎College. His courses include various make-up classes and a number of lectures for future primary school teachers.‎ If the course fails to provide complete satisfaction to you, you can easily exchange it for any other course that we offer. Or you can get your money back.‎ ‎56. What does the course Basic Math mainly cover?‎ ‎ A. Algebra. B. College Mathematics.‎ ‎ C. Arithmetic. D. Mathematics Education.‎ ‎57. Where is the passage most likely to have been taken from?‎ ‎ A. A news report. B. A book review ‎ C. A lesson plan. D. An advertisement B Peanuts to This Proudly reading my words, I glanced around the room, only to find my classmates bearing big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes. Confused, I glanced toward my stone-faced teacher. Having no choice, I slowly raised the report I had slaved over, hoping to hide myself. “What could be causing everyone to act this way?”‎ Quickly, I flashed back to the day Miss Lancelot gave me the task. This was the first real talk I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. Since my idea of history came from an ancient teacher in my home country, I had never heard of that name before. As I searched the name of this fellow, it became evident that there were two people bearing the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led some sort of army across America. I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant. I called my grandfather for a golden ‎ piece of advice; flip (掷) a coin. Heads—the commander, and tails—the peanuts guy. Ah! Tails, my report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter, George Washington Carver.‎ Weeks later, standing before this unfriendly mass, I was totally lost. Oh well, I lowered the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report, it all became clear, “My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American Revolution.” The whole world became quite! How could I know that she meant that George Washington?‎ Obviously, my grade was awful. Heartbroken but fearless, I decided to turn this around. I talked to Miss Lancelot, but she insisted: No re-dos; no new grade. I felt that the punishment was not justified, and I believed I deserved a second chance. Consequently, I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year. Ten months later, that chance unfolded as I found myself sitting in the headmaster’s office with my grandfather, now having an entirely different conversation. I smiled and flashed back to the embarrassing moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster informed me of my option to skip the sixth grade. Justice is sweet!‎ ‎60. What did the author’s classmates think about his report?‎ A. Controversial. B. Ridiculous.‎ C. Boring. D. Puzzling.‎ ‎61. Why was the author confused about the task?‎ A. He was unfamiliar with American history.‎ B. He followed the advice and flipped a coin.‎ C. He forgot his teacher’s instruction.‎ D. He was new at the school.‎ ‎62. In the end, the author turned things around _______.‎ A. by redoing his task B. through his own efforts ‎ C. with the help of his grandfather ‎ D. under the guidance of his headmaster C Decision-making under Stress A new review based on a research shows that acute stress affects the way the brain considers the advantages and disadvantages, causing it to focus on pleasure and ignore the possible negative (负面的) consequences of a decision.‎ The research suggests that stress may change the way people make choices in predictable ways.‎ ‎“Stress affects how people learn,” says Professor Mara Mather. “People learn better about positive than negative outcomes under stress.”‎ For example, two recent studies looked at how people learned to connect images(影像) with either rewards or punishments. In one experiment, some of the participants were first stressed by having to give a speech and do difficult math problems in front of an audience; in the other, some were stressed by having to keep their hands in ice water. In both cases, the stressed participants remembered the rewarded material more accurately and the punished material less accurately than those who hadn’t gone through the stress.‎ This phenomenon is likely not surprising to anyone who has tried to resist eating cookies or smoking a cigarette while under stress –at those moments, only the pleasure associated with such activities comes to mind. But the findings further suggest that stress may bring about a double effect. Not only are rewarding experiences remembered better, but negative consequences are also easily recalled.‎ The research also found that stress appears to affect decision-making differently in men and women. While both men and women tend to focus on rewards and less on consequences under stress, their responses to risk turn out to be different.‎ Men who had been stressed by the cold-water task tended to take more risks in the experiment while women responded in the opposite way. In stressful situations in which risk-taking can pay off big, men may tend to do better, when caution weighs more, however, women will win.‎ This tendency to slow down and become more cautious when decisions are risky might also help explain why women are less likely to become addicted than men: they may more often avoid making the risky choices that eventually harden into addiction.‎ ‎64. We can learn from the passage that people under pressure tend to ______.‎ ‎ A. keep rewards better in their memory ‎ B. recall consequences more effortlessly ‎ C. make risky decisions more frequently ‎ D. learn a subject more effectively ‎65. According to the research, stress affects people most probably in their ______.‎ ‎ A. ways of making choices B. preference for pleasure ‎ C. tolerance of punishments D. responses to suggestions ‎66. The research has proved that in a stressful situation, ______.‎ ‎ A. women find it easier to fall into certain habits ‎ B. men have a greater tendency to slow down ‎ C. women focus more on outcomes ‎ D. men are more likely to take risks D Wilderness ‎“In wilderness(荒野) is the preservation of the world.” This is a famous saying from a writer regarded as one of the fathers of environmentalism. The frequency with which it is borrowed mirrors a heated debate on environmental protection: whether to place wilderness at the heart of what is to be preserved. ‎ As John Sauven of Greenpeace UK points out, there is a strong appeal in images ‎ of the wild, the untouched; more than anything else, they speak of the nature that many people value most dearly. The urge to leave the subject of such images untouched is strong, and the danger exploitation(开发) brings to such landscapes(景观) is real. Some of these wildernesses also perform functions that humans need—the rainforests, for example, store carbon in vast quantities. To Mr.Sauven, these ”ecosystem services” far outweigh the gains from exploitation.‎ Lee Lane‎, a visiting fellow at the Hudson Institute, takes the opposing view. He acknowledges that wildernesses do provide useful services, such as water conservation. But that is not, he argues, a reason to avoid all human presence, or indeed commercial and industrial exploitation. There are ever more people on the Earth, and they reasonably and rightfully want to have better lives, rather than merely struggle for survival. While the ways of using resources have improved, there is still a growing need for raw materials, and some wildernesses contain them in abundance. If they can be tapped without reducing the services those wildernesses provide, the argument goes, there is no further reason not to do so. Being untouched is not, in itself, a characteristic worth valuing above all others.‎ I look forwards to seeing these views taken further, and to their being challenged by the other participants. One challenge that suggests itself to me is that both cases need to take on the question of spiritual value a little more directly. And there is a practical question as to whether wildernesses can be exploited without harm.‎ This is a topic that calls for not only free expression of feelings, but also the guidance of reason. What position wilderness should enjoy in the preservation of the world obviously deserves much more serious thinking.‎ ‎67. John Sauven holds that_____.‎ ‎ A. many people value nature too much ‎ B. exploitation of wildernesses is harmful ‎ C. wildernesses provide humans with necessities ‎ D. the urge to develop the ecosystem services is strong ‎68. What is the main idea of Para. 3?‎ ‎ A. The exploitation is necessary for the poor people.‎ ‎ B. Wildernesses cannot guarantee better use of raw materials.‎ ‎ C. Useful services of wildernesses are not the reason for no exploitation.‎ ‎ D. All the characteristics concerning the exploitation should be treated equally.‎ ‎69. What is the author’s attitude towards this debate?‎ ‎ A. Objective. B. Disapproving. C. Sceptical. D. Optimistic.‎ ‎70. Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?‎ ‎ A. B. C. D. ‎ CP: Central Point P: Point Sp: Sub-point(次要点) C: Conclusion 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最正确选项。选项中有两项为多余项。‎ If you are hungry, what do you do? Only when we are healthy can we study well and enjoy life.‎ However, many teenagers don't pay any attention to their health, especially during the holiday. And they spend too much time watching TV, playing games and chatting on the Internet all night, which is bad for their health. First, this may make them get near-sighted. Besides, their bodies become much weaker. Thirdly, they will lose the chance to communicate with others face to face as they never go out, which may have a bad effect on their mental health.‎ In my opinion, they should spend less time in front of the TV or the computer. Go out to take some exercises, play some sports and visit some and have a healthy lifestyle.‎ 听力录音材料 第一节 ‎ 听下面五段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最正确选项,并标在试卷的相应位置。听完每段对话后,你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。‎ Text 1 ‎ W: I hear you're going home, are you ?‎ M: Yes.
