With developments in the speed and connectivity of the internet, increases in technology and the rise of on-demand entertainment companies, people can now have their favorite shows streamed directly to their television at their convenience.‎ This behavior is nothing new. In fact, " binge-watching" has been officially listed in dictionaries since 2015. The entertainment companies recognize this behavior and many take steps to encourage it. Often, instead of releasing each episode on a week-by-week basis, an entire series will ‎ become available concurrently. Once the episode finishes many platforms will display pop-ups with “you might like suggestions, or will automatically play the next episode”.‎ However, recent research suggests that out of the more than half of British adults who watch more than one episode of a show back-to-back, almost a third have admitted missing sleep or becoming tired as a result; and one quarter have neglected their household chores. Next we’ll be missing work!‎ Bingeing has other connections-binge eating, binge drinking and binge smoking. All of them are often associated with a lack of control and a possible route to addiction. Lindsey Fussell, consumer group director, said: “The days of waiting a week for the next episode are largely gone, with people finding it hard to resist watching multiple episodes around the house or on the move.” If people find binge-watching hard to resist, coupled with the fact that it has shown to lead to negligence in many, are we witnessing the birth of a new type of addiction?‎ The countless of information and entertainment that television and online media can bring us is, many would say, a good thing. However, when the activity begins to bleed into other areas, causing us to stop functioning then it becomes a problem. So, what's the answer? Moderation! Neither a tiny amount, nor too much. After all, as the old proverb says, “A little of what you fancy does you good.”‎ ‎24.How did the writer develop the first paragraph?‎ A. Listing some examples.‎ B. Giving a definition.‎ C. If you are in one of these groups, fear not! Although your major, coursework, and academic performance are relevant to landing a job, they are not the only deciding factors on where you can work. So, just how important is your major to your job search?‎ ‎ Some majors are tied directly to specific career fields. For example, if you wish to become a teacher, you will likely have needed to complete an education program and eventually sit for a ‎ licensing exam. Successfully completing a specific major is very important to landing a job in the matching field.‎ ‎ Other majors, however, are closely related to career paths but don’t necessarily require a degree in the area. For example, students who majored in finance or math, may also have the necessary skills to be hired as an accountant.‎ ‎ Lastly, there are many industries, such as professional sales, education (non-teaching positions), insurance, and customer service management, which hire new graduates from several more majors, looking for more generalized (笼统的) requirements. They may simply want to know the student has completed his or her bachelor’s degree, which proves students’ college-level math and writing, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.‎ ‎ Hopefully, as a college student, you were able to do more than just attend classes. Your non-academic experiences can be very influential on your future career as well. If you worked or volunteered during college and if you enjoyed these activities, seek out related careers. You may qualify for a position regardless of your major.‎ ‎ Although it often seems like your college major alone determines your career fate, this just isn’t the case. It may influence it, but there are other factors that influence your career options as well. If you don’t know what career choices you have, talk to your faculty or academic adviser. You may be surprised at what opportunities await!‎ ‎28.What is probably the best title for the passage?‎ A. Major Ups Your Career B. Why Your College Major Matters C. Major VS Career: Which Is Right for You D. How Important Your Major Is to Your Job ‎ ‎29.To be a customer service manager, college graduates______.‎ A. need to have related qualities B. should pass a licensing exam C. are required to major in insurance D. must have relevant experiences ‎30.The writer thinks that _____________.‎ A. majors are closely linked to career paths B. volunteer experiences help graduates get employed ‎ C. students of finance tend to receive higher salaries D. social work graduates have more employment opportunities ‎31.Which of the following shows the organization of the passage?‎ CP: Central Point P: Point Sp: Sub-point(次要点) C:Conclusion A. B. ‎ C. D. ‎ D ‎ The belief that new technologies are causing the death of work is the idea that never goes away. Despite evidence to the contrary, we still view technological change today as being more rapid and dramatic in its consequences for work than ever before. But this is nothing new. People have always viewed the technological changes that take place during their lives as the most dramatic and dangerous that ever happened in history.‎ ‎ In the 1930s, the British economist(经济学家) John Maynard Keynes predicted the widespread use of electricity would produce a world where people spend most of their time doing nothing. In the United States during the 1960s, the government repeatedly investigates fears that automatic machines would permanently reduce the amount of work available. In 1988, one Australian historian claimed that at least a quarter of the workforce would be without jobs within 10 years because of computers.‎ ‎ Of course, none of these disasters came to pass in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia, or anywhere else. Yet today, we are seeing the return of these predictions, with some experts claiming the world of work is once more undergoing radical and unprecedented change. They argue that robots and other workplace technologies are causing a reduction in the total amount of work available, or are bringing a more rapid pace of substitution of machines for humans than has been seen previously.‎ ‎ But there is a little evidence to support such beliefs. Statistics show that the percentage of people in work, the number of hours they work, and how frequently they change jobs have remained remarkably constant over the past 20 years.‎ ‎ This stability should not come as a surprise. There are good reasons why we should not expect new technologies to cause the death of work. New technologies always cause job losses, but that is only part of the story. What also needs to be understood is how they increase the amount of work available.‎ ‎ One way this happens is through the increases in incomes that accompany the use of new technologies. With the introduction of these technologies, good and services can be produced faster, which results in higher real incomes for workers. Higher incomes then increase demand for other products and consequently more workers are needed to make them. Additionally, while new technologies are likely to substitute for some types of workers, they will also increase demand for other types of workers, especially those with higher level skills and expertise.‎ ‎ So, the end of work is no closer today than at any time in the past. But there is still a need to keep disproving the prediction, to reduce people's fears.‎ ‎32.What is the function of the second paragraph?‎ A. To explain the importance of developing new technology.‎ B. To show how technology affected employment in the past.‎ C. To argue that technological dangers are becoming more serious.‎ D. To give historical examples of unnecessary fear about new technology.‎ ‎33.How can employment statistics over the past 20 years best be described?‎ A. Stable B. Reliable C. Confusing D. Variable ‎34.According to paragraph 7, why does demand for products often increase after new technology is introduced?‎ A. There are more goods for people to choose from.‎ B. Productivity improvements help raise workers’ salaries.‎ C. There is more demand for new skills in the economy.‎ D. Higher quality goods at lower prices encourage consumption.‎ ‎35.What is the author’s opinion about the introduction of new technology?‎ A. It does not have an effect on most people’s jobs.‎ B. Its benefits are usually not worth the introduction.‎ C. It usually leads to a significant increase in employment.‎ D. Its danger to peoples employment possibilities is overstated.‎ 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。注意:请将答案转涂到答题卡上,写在本试卷上无效。‎ ‎ People around the world used their computers to buy goods, communicate with others, listen to music, see pictures and learn about different places and ideas.
