On Monday, thousands of Cubans lined up near Havana’s Plaza of the Revolution to pay their final respects to their leader. On Wednesday, Castro’s ashes will begin a three-day journey across Cuba to Santa Ifigenia cemetery in Santiago de Cuba.‎ Castro was born into a middle-class family on August 13. 1926. He spent his childhood alongside the laborers on his father’s plantation(种植园). In 1945,Castro entered the University of Havana as a law student. He later joined groups that sought to end dictatorships in Latin-American countries.‎ On July 26,1953, Castro staged an unsuccessful revolt (叛乱) against Batista’s government. He and his brother Raul were captured and imprisoned for two years. After they were freed, the brothers went into exile in Mexico. On New Year’s Day 1959, Batista fled from Cuba. Castro took absolute power on January 8. ‎ The U. S. viewed Castro's relationship with the Soviet Union as a threat. In 1961, President John F. Kennedy approved the invasion of Cuba by 1,500 Cuban exiles. They landed on April 17 at the Bay of Pigs, but with little U. S. military support. Cuban troops smashed the attack within a few days.‎ In October 1962, Castro confronted Kennedy during the Cuban Crisis, during which he allowed the Soviet Union to place nuclear capable missiles in Cuba. By that time, the U. S. had cut all relations with Cuba.‎ After the Soviet Union collapsed(崩溃)in 1991. Cuba lost its economic support. The fuel the economy, the Cuban government allowed outside investment in hotels and resorts, but that created inequality. Meanwhile, Castro continued to crack down on any opposition. The collapse of the Soviet Union.‎ D Some of the world's most significant problems never hit headlines. One example comes from ‎ agriculture. Food riots(暴乱) and hunger make news, but the trend lying behind these matters is rarely talked about. This is the decline in the growth in yields of some of the world’s major crops. A new study by the University of Minnesota and McGill University in Montreal looks at where, and how far, this decline is occurring.‎ ‎ The authors take a vast number of data points for the four most important crops: rice, wheat, corn and soybeans. They find that on between 24% and 39% of all harvested areas, the improvement in yields that took place before the 1980s slowed down in the 1990s and 2000s.‎ ‎ There are two worrying features of the slowdown. One is that it has been particularly sharp in the world’s most populous(人口多的) countries, India and China. Their ability to feed themselves has been an important source of relative stability both within the countries and on world food markets. That self-sufficiency cannot be taken for granted if yields continue to slow down or reverse.‎ ‎ Second, yield growth has been lower in wheat and rice than in corn and soybeans. This is problematic because wheat and rice are more important as foods, accounting for around half of all calories consumed. Corn and soybeans are more important as feed grains. The authors note that “we have preferentially focused our crop improvement efforts on feeding animals and cars rather than on crops that feed people and are the basis of food security in much of the world.”‎ ‎ The report qualifies the more optimistic findings of another new paper which suggests that the world will not have to dig up a lot more land for farming in order to feed 9 billion people in 2050, as the Food and Agriculture Organization has argued.‎ ‎ Instead, it says, thanks to slowing population growth, land currently ploughed(耕) up for crops might be able to revert(恢复)to forest or wilderness. This could happen. The trouble is that the forecast assumes continued improvements in yields, which may not actually happen.‎ ‎33. Which crops are mentioned in the text?‎ A. Rice, corn, soybeans and wheat.‎ B. Rice, corn, wheat and peas.‎ C. Wheat, corn, soybean and potatoes.‎ D. Corn, wheat, tomatoes and soybeans.‎ ‎34. What does the author try to draw attention to?‎ A. Food riots and hunger in the world.‎ B. The decline of the grain yield growth.‎ C. News headlines in the leading media. ‎ D. The food supply in populous countries.‎ ‎35. Why does the author mention India and China in particular?‎ A. Their self-sufficiency is vital to the stability of world food markets.‎ B. Their food yields have begun to decrease sharply in recent years.‎ C. Their big populations are causing worldwide concerns.‎ D. Their food self-sufficiency has been taken for granted.‎ 第二节(共5小题:每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Some Natural Ways to Prevent Aging Everyone wants to conserve their youth and look young forever. They also learn how to be a good winner or loser. Games also prepare children for school by helping them learn colors and shapes and to count and read. As they grow older, children play more important games. These games help them to reason better and develop their thinking skills. For example, playing cards helps teens gain self-confidence and build relationships with kids of their own age. Playing sports games develops their bodies and teaches fair play and team spirits.‎ Adults enjoy playing games to clear their minds and relax themselves. Both the social communication and the laughter that accompany playing games help to lower stress. When the elderly play games, their minds stay healthier and their memory improves.‎ Parents who play games with their kids build better relationships with them. Parents can also see how their children think and behave. It helps them get to know their children.‎ Whether you are young or old, playing games makes you smarter and puts fun into your life.‎ 试题答案 ‎1~5 BAACB 6〜l0 CABCA l1〜l5 BCCAB 16〜20 BCBBA ‎21.B 细节理解题, 根据第一段第二句"Due to their high level of hydrogen sulfide and various microelements, they have major medicinal value.”可知.‎ ‎22.
