KEYS:TTFFT B(2013 年徐汇一模) Marlon Braudo is widely considered the greatest movie actor of all time. He was born in Omaha Nebraka in 1924. He was named after his father, a salesman. The Method teaches actors how to use their own memories and emotions to identify with the characters they are playing. Marlon Braudo learned the Method style quickly and easily. His later life was marked with family tragedies. His son Christian went to prison for killing his daughter Cheyene’s boyfriend. Cheyene later committed suicide. Braudo became lonely. The truth is that Olivia has never left Australia. But with a few clicks of her computer mouse, she can travel to shopping 2 around the world. Online shopping has 3 the consumer experience. With the help of an increasing number of online shops overseas, shoppers can now pick up interesting goods from all over the world. The biggest advantage of shopping on foreign websites is the wide range of choices available. For example, Chinese shoppers are often disappointed when Gap products are not available locally. But now it’s possible to order these products straight from the US with a credit card and a small 4 fee. Other benefits of online shopping include 5 prices. When items are bought online from other countries, they’re often tax-free. However, when you buy things from a foreign website, things can get 6 too. So make sure you pay extra attention to protecting your rights. Sometimes it can be difficult to handle foreign websites because of the unfamiliar language. For example, the term “shipped in 1-5 working days” can be confusing for Chinese shoppers, as it doesn’t clarify whether this is the time in which the product will arrive or the time it takes for it to be 7 . The method of shipping can also determine whether you get your product at all. Unless you choose express or priority shipping, which only takes a few days to deliver but is more expensive, most 8 international shipping doesn’t offer a tracking option ― which means once your products are shipped outside of the country there’s no way of finding out where they are. The best consumers are the most sensible ones. If you’re interested in expanding your shopping 9 to foreign websites, make sure you do your research beforehand to avoid your money and products being lost on the way. KEYS: 1. C 2. D 3. A 4. J 5. Oscar-winning director Ang Lee’s new epic “Life of Pi” reveals the relationship between a teenager Indian boy and Bengal tiger. But in reality, the predators are under increasing threat from humans. Animal rights group PETA is hoping to use the popularity of the film to focus people’s attention on the real life of Bengal tigers. With the rising demand for tiger parts from East Asia, illegal hunting remains a tremendous danger for the remaining cat population. Back in 1947, there were 40.000 tigers in India, but the number is expecting a sharp decline to 1,706 despite campaigns to protect the animal. Rising man-animal conflict is also one of the leading causes of decline in tiger numbers. In one of the numerous reported attacks on the endangered big cats, villagers near the Bangladesh- India border, armed with sticks and boat oars, set upon the animal suspected to have attacked a local fisherman and beat it to death earlier this month. So far this year, 58 tigers deaths have been reported in country. “The first instinct when a tiger is reported is to just kill it,” grieved Gurmeet Sapal, a wildlife filmmaker. “The feeling of fear and revenge is so strong that it shuts out any other emotion. What we don’t realize is that the tiger never attacks humans until it is forced to.” India has been struggling to stop the tiger’s decline in the face of the loss of habitats as well that encourages the animal to leave the forest for food.” “The tiger’s rapidly exhausted prey base causes the predator to go all out to get its food. Consequently, livestock and human beings become easy prey, which leads inevitably to conflict,” says a wildlife conservationist. Filmmaker Sapal says it is only normal for people to think of the tiger as a dangerous animal, but its image as a human killer bears some injustice. “Tiger never kill for sport nor store meat. They kill their prey only in case of hunger.” ( Note: Answer the question or complete the statement in no more than ten words.) 1. My mother had recently passed away, and my father had taken the loss of his partner of 55 years very hard and had lost interest in life. Trying to get him to eat each day was quite a chore as he didn’t want anything. The one thing, however, that he would ask us to bring him was ice-cream. One evening, to our surprise, he refused to eat the ice-cream, so I placed it in a staffroom freezer. A little while later, my son decided he wanted it, so I fetched it for him. As I passed another ward, a woman asked, “Are there more where that came from?” when I explained the situation, she apologized. She then said that she had cancer and could eat very little, other than the occasional ice-cream. The next evening, I decided to buy two ice-creams. On the way to Dad’s room, I stopped in at the sick woman’s room, and offered her the ice-cream I’d bought for her. She was totally stunned that I had thought of her, and accepted the gift with tears in her eyes. I spoke with her for a few minutes, explaining what was happening in my family and listened to her similar story of pain and suffering. It was apparent that she did not have many visitors, and the ice-cream and our short chat meant a great deal to her. I repeated the gesture a few days later, and this time was rewarded with a huge hug. I never even thought to ask her name, and never saw her again, but it made me realize that an act of kindness can be more rewarding when you give it, rather than receive it. 1.
