B The search engine Google celebrated on Thursday the 110th birthday of the first Native Ameri-can woman engineer. Google honored Mary Ross with a special Google Doodle(谷歌图标) on its homepage. Her work is considered important to the early stages of the age of space travel. Ross was born on August 9, 1908, in the state of Oklahoma. She showed special abilities in math and science from an early age. As a student, she developed an interest in aviation, or the practice of flying aircraft. She went on to earn a master's degree in mathematics from Colorado State Teachers College, now called the University of Northern Colorado. During World War II,Ross began working for the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as a mathema-tician. She earned a special certification in the field from the University of California in 1949. Ross was later chosen to join Lockheed's top-secret Skunk Works team that worked on aircraft designs. The name refers to a group that is permitted to work independently on advanced projects. She was the only female engineer among the team's 40 members. Early on, she researched defense systems. By the late 1950s, her work centered on satellites and a series of space rockets A genda. The rockets were extremely important in the 1960s during the Apollo moon program. Ross also helped develop early design ideas for space travel between planets, including flyby space flights to study Venus and Mars. Ross retired from Lockheed in 1973.But she continued to give talks at high schools and colleges to encourage more women and Native Americans to study engineering. She died in 2008,a few months before her 100th birthday. Many celebrated Ross' life on social media. Twitter user Aaron Perez, for example, wrote:"Mary Ross was an engineer who pioneered in the field of satellites. I never would have known if it wasn't for the doodle. Women engineers deserve more recognition." 24.Why did Google celebrate Mary Ross' 110th birthday? A.She invented a new flying aircraft. B.She had been a great designer ever. C.She contributed a lot to.space travel. D.She got a master's degree in mathematics. 25.What did Mary Ross do in the middle of 20th century? A.She worked on Agenda. B.She gave talks at high schools. C.She helped women study engineering. D.She planned the Apollo moon program. 26. Which of the following can best describe Mary Ross? A.Caring and cautious. B.Talented and creative. C.Generous and patient. D.Couragcous and optimistic. 27.What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A.Social media is very popular in the world. B.Every Twitter user thinks highly of Mary Ross. C.More attention should be paid to women engineers. D.Man has made greater progress in space technology. C Every country has certain cultural patterns making it unique. Of course, habits and customs between cultures and countries tend to overlap(重叠).The popularity of social media, for instance, ignores borders and breaks down cultural differences. Technology has made the world a much smaller and culturally similar place. However, when looking at a foreign country, we will always find differences between our traditions and theirs. Young Italians and young Americans, for example, though alike in many respects, have also some pronounced differences, especially when it comes to work, pastimes and sports. Most American teens have part-time jobs through high school and college. Youths in Italy tend not to. The reasons behind this are multifaceted. It is, to begin with, rather hard in Italy to find the type of part-time jobs students usually take up. Moreover, there is also a different cultural attitude to take into consideration, especially when thinking of certain parts of Italy. Young Italians like to enjoy life to the full and feel there will be time to work once they become adults, hence the lack of interest in finding odd jobs while still in school. Like the old saying goes, some Italians work to Live, while some Americans often live to work. In a lot of ways, young Italians ans and Americans spend their free time in a similar fashion. Listening to music, watching movies, hanging out, practicing sports and surfing the Internet are all common ways to pass some free time. Italians, especially, make a point of going out and being social, often choosing between pizzerie or birrerie (place for pizza or beer). which stay open late. Italians often pile into a couple of cars and go out in a big group. In general, American teens participate in a lot of extracurricular(课外的)activities, many often through school, while Italians may not take part in so many. When going out. Italian teens tend to meet and gather on the streets of their cities or towns, something not as common in the United States, especially in highly populated areas. This very Italian habit can be linked to the urban arrangement of Italian towns. Many of them date back thousands of years and feature central piazzas(广场) and areas built around historical sitcs that have now become gathering places for the young. If you're in Italy. don't be surprised by the sight of hundreds gathered in a piazza or on the street, laughing and drinking the night away. 28. The passage is mainly about A.the unique lifestyles shared by American and Italian teens B.the relationship between young people of America and Italy C.some customs and habits of the Americans and Italians D.some differences in tradition between young Americans and Italians 29.By saying "some Italians work to live, while some Americans often live to work”,the author most probably wants to tell us that A.Italians have a better life attitude toward working B.Americans are more ditigent and thus live a better life C.Americans and Italians both find it hard to locate a satisfying job D.Italians and Americans have different choices regarding work 30. According to paragraph 3,which of the following statements is true? A.American teens practice sports and surf the Internet to pass time. B.Italian youth take an active part in extracurricular activities. C.American teens like to drive out and social together in big groups. D.ltalian youth enjoy pizza and beer because they are cheap. 31.If there is one more paragraph in this passage, what will it most probably be about? A.The working conditions of the young Americans and Italians. B.The differences in practicing sports between teens of the two nations. C.The central piazzas and areas built around historical sites in Italy. D.The urban arrangement of the highly populated American cities. D Let us all raise a glass to A1phaGo and the advance of artificial intelligence. AlphaGo, DecpMind's Go-playing AI, just defeated the best Go-playing human, Lee Sedol. But as we drink to its success. we should also been trying to understand what it means for the future. The number of possible moves in a game of Go is so huge that in order to win against a player like Lee, AiphaGo was designed to adopt a human-like style of gameplay by using a relatively recent development-deep learning. Deep learning uses large data sets,"machine learning" algorit- hms(计算程序)and deep neural(神经的)networks to teach the Al how to perform a particular set of tasks. Rather than programming complex Go rules and strategies into AlphaGo, DeepMind designers taught AlphaGo to play the game by feeding it data based on typical Go moves. Then, AlphaGo played against itself, tirelessly learning from its own mistakes aid improving its garreplay over time. The results speak for themselves. Deep leaming represents a shift in the relationship humans have with their technological creations. It results in Al that displays surprising and unpredictable behaviour. Commenting after his first loss. Lee described being shocked by an unconventional move he claimed no human would ever have made. Demis Hassabis, one of DeepMlind's founders, echoed this comment: "We're very pleased that A1phaGo played some quite surprising and beautiful moves.” Unpredictability and surprises are-or can be-a good thing. They can indicate that a system is working well, perhaps better than the humans that came before it. Such is the case with AlphaGo. However, unpredictability also indicates a loss of human control. That Hassabis is surprised at his creation's behaviour suggests a lack of control in the design. And though some loss of control might be fine in the context of a game such as Go, it raises urgent questions elsewhere. How much and what kind of control should we give up to AI machines? Is there some AI that we should just not develop if it means any loss of human control? How much of a say should corporations, governments, experts or citizens have in these matters? These important questions, and many others like them, have emerged in response, but remain unanswered. They require human, not human-like, solutions. So as we drink to the milestone in AI, let's also drink to the understanding that the time to answer deeply human questions about deep learning and AI is now. 32.What contributes most to the unconventional move of A1phaGo in the game? A.The capability of self-improvement. B.The constant input of large data sets. C.The installation of deep neutral networks. D.The knowledge of Go rules and strategies. 33.A potential danger of AI is A.the loss of human control B.the friendly relationship C.the fierce competition D.the lack of challenge 34.How should we deal with the unprcdictability of AI? A.We should stop AI machines from developing even further. B.We snould call on the government to solve these problems for us. C.We should rely on ourselves and come up with effective solutions. D.We should invent even more intelligent machines to solve everything. 35.What's the author's attitude towards this remarkable advance in AI? A.Supportive. B.Optimistic. C.Doubtful. D.Cautious. 第二节(共5小题;每题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Both men and women are living longer these days in industrializcd countries. 36 In general, they can expect to live six or seven years more than men. One reason for this is biological. One important biological factor that helps women live longer is tie difference in hormones between men and women 37 Between the ages of about 12 and 50, women produce hormones that are involved in fertility(生育能力).These hormones also have a positive effect on the heart and blood flow. In fact, women are less likely to have high blood pressure or to die from heart attacks. 38 They help the body defend itself against some kinds of infections. This means that women generally get sick less often and less seriously than men. The common cold is a good example: women, on average, get fewer colds than men 39 Scientists are still not exactly sure How they influence aging, but they believe止at they do. Some think that a woman's body cells have a tendency to age more slowly than a man's. Others think that a man's body cells have a tendency toage more quickly 40 A.However, women, on average, live longer. B.The biological factor plays an important part. C.Women are also helped勿their female genes. D.The female hormones also protect the body in another way. E.Recent research seems to support both of these possibilities. F.Therefore, women are more healthy than men and can live a better life. G.Hormones are chemicals which are produced by the body to control various body functions. 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分) 第一节 完形填空(共20题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A. B. And food in pictures is no longer food. It's 42 ,something to make you desire a lifestyle while 43 you that you're not part of it. But people are getting 44 and tired of such perfection, leading to something Pamela Grossman, a director at Getty Images, calls"perfection fatigue(疲劳)” .This new attitude is now 45 people to value something different: 46 . The pizza company Domino's, for example, is 47 the trend by encouraging its customers to 48 unedited pictures of their pizzas on social media, as part of the nofilter(未过滤的)movement that's become so popular on Instagram. This may mean oily boxes, 49 cheese and less-than-delicious-looking meat, but these 50 show what we're actually 51 . "It's 52 what it looks like when you really get a pizza."Dennis Maloney, chief digital officer of Domino's, told the website Fastcodesign. "It feels much more honest and transparent when the images are imperfect.” Things are also changing with perfect human images. For example, US clothing company Gap , 53 a"Dress Normal"campaign in 2014, 54 simple clothes instead of smart suits like those of runway models. "We spend so much time trying to 55 our shortcomings owing to the fact that our 56 has set it up that we have to be 57 if we're not perfect,"US filmmaker Cynthia Wade told The mw York Times."I think people are tired of it. They're suddenly much more willing to 58 the ugly or sarcastic." But while it's probably true that we won't see a(n) 59 to"perfect"pictures any time soon, at least some people are starting to see that it can actually be 60 to be imperfect,or to use the name of one of American singer Grace VanderWaal's albums, Perfectly Imperfect. 41 .A.choose B.aim C.fail D.intend 42. The recent visual confirmation of black holes acts for the confirmation of Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity. Black holes are made up of huge amounts of matter squeezed into a small area, created a gravitational(万有引力的)field which draws in something around it. They also had a way of super-heating the material around them and warping spacetime(扭曲时空). Material is heated to billions of degrees and reaches nearly the speed of the light. Light bends around the gravity of the black hole, where creates the photon(光子)ring seen in the image. Relative to other object, supermassive black holes are actual small. They may seem invisible, and the way they interact with the material around them is the giveaway. Dear Mr. Jackson, Yours sincerely, Li Hua 英语答案 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 1~5 BBBAC 6~10 BAACA 11~15 ACAAC 16~20 BBCAA 第二部分 阅读理解 (共两节, 满分40分) 21-23BBD 24-27 CABC 28-31 DDAB 32-35 AACD 36-40 AGDCE 第三部分 英语知识运用 完形填空(共20题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 41~45 CBACD 46~50 BCABD 51~55 CCADC 56~60 ADBAD 语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 61. global 62. to taste 63. a 64. and 65. how 66. citizens 67. as 68. stands 69. rising 70. pride 短文改错(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)查看更多
