The WHO finds that poor cooking, heating and lighting technologies are killing millions of people each year. Indoor air pollution results from the use of dangerous fuels and cookstoves in the home. To help fight the problem, the WHO announces new guidelines aimed at reducing household pollutants.‎ WHO officials say nearly three billion people are unable to use clean fuels and technologies for cooking, heating and lighting. And they say more than seven million people die from exposure(暴露)to indoor or outdoor air pollution each year. Of that number, the WHO says about 4.3 million people die from household air pollution given off by simple coal cookstoves. WHO officials say indoor pollution leads to early death from strokes, heart and lung disease. The main victims(受害者)are women and girls in developing countries, where they usually stay at home and do the household work.‎ Carlos Dora, an official of the WHO, says people should not use unprocessed coal and kerosene indoors. He says opening a window or door to let out the harmful air will ‎ not improve the situation. It will only pollute the outdoors.‎ Nigel Bruce is a professor of Public Health at the University‎ of ‎Liverpool. He says researchers are developing good cookstoves and other equipment to burn fuels in a more efficient way.‎ WHO experts note some new, safe and low-cost technologies that could help are already available. In India, you can buy an induction cooker(电磁炉)for about $ 8.00. And in Africa you can buy a solar lamp for less than $ 1.00. But, this, the WHO says, is just a start. It is urging developing countries to use cleaner fuels and increase access to cleaner and more modern cooking and heating equipment.‎ ‎21.What does the underlined phrase “the problem” in paragraph 1 refer to? ‎ A.Indoor air pollution. There is no argument here.‎ But when we asked our readers whether they would clone their beloved animals, the responses(反应)were split almost down the middle. Of the 228 readers who answered it, 108 would clone their beloved animals, 111 would not and nine weighed each side without offering an opinion.‎ Clearly, from readers’responses, this is an issue that reaches deeply into both the joy and eventual sadness of owning a pet. It also shows people’s widely different expectations over the developing scientific procedure.‎ Most of the respondents who favored the idea strongly believed it would produce at least a close copy of the original;many felt the process would actually return an exact copy. Those on the other side, however, held little hope that cloning could truly recreate a pet;many simply didn’t wish to go against the natural law of life and death.‎ Both sides expressed equal love for their animals. More than a few respondents owned“the dog/cat in the world”.They thought of their pets as their“best friend”,“a member of the family”,“the light of their life”.They told moving stories of pets’ heroism, intelligence and selfless devotion.‎ Few wonder the loss is so disturbing(令人不安的)and the cloning so attractive.“People become very close to their animals, and the loss can be just as hard to bear as when a friend or family member dies,”says Gary A.Kowalski, author of Goodbye Friend:Healing Wisdom for Anyone Who Has Ever Lost a Pet. “For me, cloning feels like an attempt to turn death away... It’s understandable. Death is always painful. It’s difficult to deal with it. It’s hard to accept.”‎ But would cloning reduce the blow? This question seemed to be at the heart of this problem.‎ ‎25.While talking about the readers’ responses, the expression“eventual sadness of owning a pet”refers to _______.‎ A.the troubles one has to deal with in keeping a pet B.the high cost of owning a pet C.the death of one’s pet D.the dangers involved in the cloning of a pet ‎26.What can we know from what Gary A Kowalski says?‎ A.He has never thought about the problem of cloning.‎ B.He is in favor of the idea of cloning pets.‎ C.He has lost his beloved pets.‎ D.He has doubts about the cloning of pets.‎ ‎27.What is the key question at the heart of the problem of cloning pets?‎ A.Can cloning make the pain one suffers less when a pet dies?‎ B.Can pet owners afford the cost of cloning?‎ C.Does cloning go against the law of nature?‎ D.How reliably does cloning produce an exact copy of one's pet?‎ C Over the years, I've received a lot of advice from friends and family, trained professionals and books on how to get along with others and build strong relationships. Most of it is insightful(有见地的) and effective but when I'm caught up in the moment, I find it hard to apply what I've learned. This is especially true when it involves a multi-step process. ‎ After analyzing many methods and experimenting in my own interactions(交流), I've found one simple guideline that has helped me strengthen every one of my interpersonal relationships. This simple easy-to-remember tip is: Make the other person feel important. ‎ No one likes to feel small and most conflicts(冲突)occur when you make others feel unimportant whether you plan to or not. The key to getting along with almost anyone is to avoid actions that diminish others and replace them with actions that build up others. Actually, you can strengthen your relationships with many actions. ‎ When you interact with someone, give him your undivided attention. Don't look around to see what else is going on or check your phone or watch. Take time to listen and respond accordingly to show you're engaged. Make the other person feel like he ‎ is the most important person you’re meeting with. ‎ Nothing will make someone light up more brightly than showing genuine interest in him. Be curious and ask specific questions based on what you hear. The more questions you ask, the better the interaction will go but keep in mind that you must be sincere. If you try to fake it, people can tell. ‎ When it is possible, show that you consider the other person remarkable. Find opportunities to speak highly of this person to others as often as you honestly can. One trap to avoid is making others feel more important by putting yourself down. This is never helpful so it's important that you lift others up in a way that respects everyone including you.‎ ‎28.What does the underlined word“diminish” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?‎ A.Take charge of. B.Speak highly of. C.Think poorly of. D.Make use of.‎ ‎29.Which of the following should be avoided when you are listening to others?‎ A.Being responsive. B.Paying attention fully.‎ C.Getting genuinely curious. D.Pretending to be interested.‎ ‎30.What does last paragraph warns against?‎ A.Being too modest. B.Being sharply critical.‎ C.Playing tricks on others. D.Looking down upon others.‎ 第二节(共5个小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项多余选项。‎ ‎ What is friendship? In their opinion, what 36 is their own interests, and they are simply not 37 about whether those people live or die. How terrible the phenomenon(现象)is!However, I 38 believe that helping others is helping yourself in one way or another. ‎ Then I will explain why helping others can 39 ourselves in more detail. ‎ When you help others, you will find yourself becoming confident. Take myself as ‎ a(n) 40 . ‎ When I was a little girl, I dared not talk with others and I preferred staying 41 . One day in an art class, my deskmate 42 to bring color pens, then I 43 lent her mine. She appreciated my help but was 44 because I rarely talked. After that, she often chatted with me and helped me become a(n) 45 girl, and she also helped me when I was in trouble. There is no 46 that we became best friends. What benefited me most was that I gained confidence and was willing to 47 others. If I hadn't lent my color pens to her, she might have been punished by the teacher, and I wouldn't have been confident so soon. Through this thing, I have come to 48 helping others is helping yourself in one way. ‎ ‎ 49 , when you help others, you will feel very pleased. As the Chinese old saying 50 , “Fragrance(香味)will be reserved in your hand when you present others with roses. ” 51 someone meets with some difficulties, then you come to help him. “Thank you”will make you feel that you have done a rewarding thing and your 52 is much more than the person who gets your help. What a wonderful thing it is!‎ From what have been discussed above, we can safely arrive at the 53 that helping others is helping yourself. Helping others can1 not only bring others pleasure, but also bring ourselves pleasure and confidence. This time we helped others, maybe 54 when we are in trouble, others will help us. So we should try our best to form the habit of helping others. Only in this way can the world become warmer and more 55 .‎ ‎36.A.cares B.weighs C.matters D.measures ‎37.A.cautious B.concerned C.anxious D.curious ‎38.A.frequently B.rarely C.directly D.firmly ‎39.A.benefit B.serve C.support D.affect ‎40.A.case B.model C.explanation D.example ‎41.A.alone B.indoors C.outdoors D.closely ‎42.A.regretted B.failed C.missed D.intended ‎43.A.hurriedly B.hesitantly C.immediately D.secretly ‎44.A.disappointed B.excited C.upset D.amazed ‎45.A.outgoing B.warm-hearted C.quick-minded D.strong-willed ‎46.A.need B.wonder C.point D.doubt ‎47.A.deal with B.communicate with C.argue with D.agree with ‎48.A.realize B.advocate C.guarantee D.accept ‎49.A.In brief B.In general C.In addition D.In summary ‎50.A.reads B.writes C.speaks D.goes ‎51.A.Since B.If C.Unless D.Until ‎52.A.difficulty B.appreciation C.happiness D.influence ‎53.A.conclusion B.commitment C.decision D.description ‎54.A.in the end B.day by day C.in the future D.now and then ‎55.A.worthwhile B.harmonious C.suitable D.admirable 第II卷(非选择题)‎ 注意:将答案写在答题卡上,写在本卷上无效。‎ 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第二节 语法填空(共10个小题,每小题1.5分,满分15分)‎ Many teens in high school want to try out for sports because they think playing sports will make them more popular. They always show up to solve their children’s problems, protect them from real or imagined harm, resolve stressful situation, offer advice and get them out of trouble, even if they misbehaved. Although out of love and concern, it can have harmful effect on their children’s emotional development and future autonomy.‎ Children learn through their mistakes. But if you intervene (介入) at first sign of struggle and finish your child’s homework, he’ll miss out on valuable learning opportunities. You’re sending him the message that he needs to be perfect and failure is not an option, otherwise you wouldn’t always take over for him.‎ By constantly rescuing your child from stressful situation, you’re sending him a message that you don’t believe he’s capable of taking care of himself. Children develop self-esteem by learning how to complete challenge on their own. If you are always intervening, he’s denied this vital stage in his growth. As a result, your child may lack the confidence necessary to do well in school, pursue hobbies and interests, and develop friendships.‎ If you’re always taking care of everything for your child, it’ll be more difficult for him to become independent. As an adult, he might find it hard to take care of himself, because he’s never developed coping skills to deal with life’s challenges. He might suffer from irrational fears, anxiety and depression, which could lead him to drop out of college or frequently change jobs, according to Dr. Michele Borba. Instead of developing healthy relationships, he might seek a partner who will take care of him or controlling, as his parents were.‎ You can help your child become more independent by allowing him to complete tasks and challenges on his own without your intervention. Even if he fails at first, don’t interfere---encourage him to start again. Show that you have faith in his abilities to succeed without your help. Allow him to learn natural consequences. Even small things can help him become more independent---making his own bed, preparing his own lunch, shopping for his own clothes and doing homework without your help.‎ ‎_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎
