On Oct 8, Leonardo DiCaprio joined Sina Weibo, posting: “Hello, China! I’m Leonardo.” But despite lots of likes, shares and comments, many other users sent humorous memes(表 情包)including photosshopped images of the US actor, to DiCaprio’s account. The Chinese are not the only ones who love to use memes. As the Sizzle website noted, “Memes have become a humorous means of communication and expression across cultures.” What has made memes so popular? Memes can be a funny reference to real people or events with serious ideas behind them. For example, during the 2016 US presidential election, a lot of memes have been created about the candidates(候选人)Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, meaning that memes have the ability to show political views. Memes have also come to show a simple form of humor that has managed to tie much of the world together. “Perhaps it is not the humor of the meme itself that gets people to post and share, but the identity tied to the humor in that only people ‘in the know’ will get its meaning, at the same time alienating other audiences,” the Plainsman website noted. We are digital natives living in a time when we have everything at our fingertips. We no longer settle for just consuming content; we want to produce it too. Memes come in handy. They sum up popular culture, politics, sports, fashion and art. “Memes give us instant gratification(即 时满足). They give us information in an easy, humorous way,” Hunger magazine commented. “People would much rather repost a meme that gives their opinion than read and repost a piece of text on the same topic.” 24. The author mentions DiCaprio’s story at the beginning of the text to _________. A. introduce a new trend B. present an argument C. prove an opinion D. put forward a suggestion 25. What can we conclude from the text about memes? A. Memes tend not to be about important matters. B. The appeal of memes only lies in their simple humor C. A. drawing someone’s attention B. helping someone get used to something C. making someone feel that they are not part of a group D. making someone feel they have been accepted as part of a group 27. What was the author’s main purpose in writing the text? A. Explaining what memes are used for B. Analyzing why memes are so popular C. Convincing people to use memes D. Eventually she found athletics, and never looked back. Indeed, Tanni's athletic career took off. In 1984, when she was 15, she pulled off a surprise victory in the 100 metres at the Junior National Wheelchair Games. In 1988, Tanni went to her first Paralympics Games in Soul. No pains, no gains C. Well begun is half done D. Never too late to learn D As millions of playthings are recalled, doctors are reminded that the risks of lead exposure continue for young patients. Lead is such a well-known health hazard(危害) -- perhaps even contributing to the fall of the Roman Empire -- that it came as a shock to discover that toys played by children could contain lead. Doctors are now dealing with the after-shocks. Just how dangerous is this exposure? That's the question physicians are being asked by parents who find a lead-tainted Elmo, of Dora. Millions of other toys, lunch boxes and pieces of jewelry manufactured in China have been recalled because they contain lead either in the paint that coats them or as a component of the plastic used to make the item more flexible. The lead content in some of the toys recalled this summer was 180 times the amount allowed by law. Some pieces of jewelry were almost 100% lead. Experts advise that the items do cause a risk and that doctors should urge parents to check the comprehensive lists of recalled products on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's Web site and return any appearing on those lists to the manufacturers. If exposure is suspected, a blood test is in order. Since there is no safe level of this ubiquitous( 普 遍 存 在 的 ) element, the risk facing children for lead poisoning and its accompanying threat of learning disabilities and behavior problems is considerable. Doctors who have toys in their waiting rooms also are advised to see if any of them have been recalled and to check for chipped, flaking paint -- even on those that haven't yet been recalled -- since new announcements of toy risks continue. 32. Why does the author mention “the fall of the Roman Empire” in Para. 2? A. To tell us a strange story B. To warn us to keep away from lead C. To explain why the Roman Empire fell D.
