In fact, most people do believe that aliens exist in some fashion. The main necessities for life are water and some form of energy source. Not surprisingly, there are some planets, exoplanets and moons that fit the bill. Here are several best chances at finding life in the universe. ‎ ‎◆TRAPPIST-1‎ TRAPPIST-1 is a planetary system a few dozen light-years away, whose d - 28 -‎ iscovery was announced in early 2017. This system consists of seven Earth-like exoplanets orbiting an "ultra-cool" star, and it is one of our shots at finding possible life beyond our own solar system. ‎ ‎◆Titan Titan is the largest moon of Saturn, the sixth planet from our Sun. This moon could potentially harbor life but possibly not in the sense that we think. Titan does not exactly fit the description of being in a typical habitable zone. ‎ Titan has water, and it has liquid. It just doesn't have liquid water. The water on this moon is completely solid because of the extremely cold temperature. ‎ ‎◆Europa Europa is one of Jupiter's moons here in our own solar system. It is another candidate due to its potential to hold liquid water. Europa is thought to have all the necessities for life including water energy sources, and the right chemical build-up. ‎ ‎◆Mars The Red Planet, the fourth from the Sun, is probably one of the most talked-about potential candidates for extraterrestrial(地球外的) life and even for human colonization. Despite some different voices, finding extraterrestrial life on Mars really is a serious possibility. ‎ We know by now that we won't find little green men or any intelligent form of life that we understand. However, there is evidence that there was and may still be microscopic life on the small red planet.‎ ‎1. The common point of these celestial bodies is that _______.‎ A. solid water exists on them respectively B. life might exist on each of them C. they all contain liquid water D. each of them has living things on it ‎2. Which celestial body could have life different from human imagination?‎ A. TRAPPIST-1. B. Titan.‎ - 28 -‎ C. Europa. D. Mars.‎ ‎3. Which of the following statements is TRUE?‎ A. Europa is the most talked-about potential candidate for extraterrestrial life.‎ B. TRAPPIST-1 is the only body that contains life beyond the solar system.‎ C. All the scientists do believe that aliens exist in some manner.‎ D. There is proof that life existed on the celestial body Mars.‎ ‎【答案】1. B 2. B 3. Not surprisingly, there are some planets, exoplanets and moons that fit the bill. Here are several best chances at finding life in the universe. This moon could potentially harbor life but possibly not in the sense that we think. However, there is evidence that there was and may still be microscopic life on the small red planet. ‎ B When he was young, Louis Armstrong was taking what was called “Creole jazz”, which was also called dance music, and combining it with trumpeter(小号手) Buddy Bolden, to create what would eventually become today’s jazz.‎ - 28 -‎ Armstrong accomplished this with almost no formal training. He received little training before he was placed in the New Orleans Colored Waif’s Home at the age of 12, after a run-in(小争执) with the police. The punishment turned out to be a mixed blessing, for he also had the opportunity to play in a real band.‎ While at the Waif’s, Armstrong also got the chance to hear some of the city’s finest musicians. Cornetist Freddie Keppard performed in a nearby club. So did trumpeter and bandleader King Joe Oliver, who took the boy under his wing and taught him how to read music and work on his playing technique.‎ When Oliver left for Chicago, Armstrong chose to stay in New Orleans and work with some of the other top musicians of the day. In Chicago, King Oliver offered him a place in his band in 1922. It became Armstrong’s biggest challenge yet — the band had no parts written for trumpet, so he was forced to listen to King Oliver and improvise(即兴创作).‎ Soon, Armstrong’s undeniable talent was getting noticed. Even classically trained musicians would come to hear the incredible sounds this young man created.‎ Lil Hardin, the band’s piano player and the future Mrs. Armstrong, explained that Oliver kept Armstrong in the second trumpet-chair so that Oliver would still be “King”. Hardin convinced him to leave the band.‎ Armstrong moved to New York City in 1924 to join Fletcher Henderson’s band and then flew solo. In 1925, Armstrong put together the Hot Five, expanding his popularity even more. Armstrong recorded his first composition, Cornet Chop Suey, one of the most copied jazz solos of all time. This monumental 1928 recording blends(混合) artistry, endurance and showmanship that has rarely, if ever, been matched in jazz.‎ ‎4. What does the underlined word “this” refer to in the second paragraph?‎ A. To play dance music. B. To work with Buddy Bolden.‎ C. To play a jazz instrument well. D. To create modern jazz music.‎ ‎5. Who taught Louis Armstrong how to play music in the early time?‎ A. Buddy Bolden. B. Lil Hardin.‎ C. King Joe Oliver. D. Cornetist Freddie Keppard.‎ ‎6. Why did Louis Armstrong Leave King Oliver’s band?‎ - 28 -‎ A. Because he wanted to get married in New York.‎ B. Because his talent could not develop completely.‎ C. Because he got a better opportunity in New York.‎ D. Because the man forced him to leave the band.‎ ‎7. What’s the main idea of the passage?‎ A. It asks readers to know more about modern jazz.‎ B. It introduces one of the greatest jazz musicians.‎ C. It introduces the development of jazz.‎ D. It describes the importance of talent in playing jazz.‎ ‎【答案】4. D 5. C 6. B 7. When he was young, Louis Armstrong was taking what was called “Creole jazz”, which was also called dance music, and combining it with trumpeter(小号手) Buddy Bolden, to create what would eventually become today’s jazz.和Armstrong accomplished this with almost no formal training. So did trumpeter and bandleader King Joe Oliver ,who took the boy under his wing and taught him how to read music and work on his playing technique. Oliver kept Armstrong in the second trumpet-chair so that Oliver would still be King" .Hardin convinced him to leave the - 28 -‎ ‎ band. B。‎ C Have you ever felt so tired after staying up for a night that even coffee doesn't give you the energy that you need? You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one arc heavily outweighed by the risks.‎ In the past years, more and more studies have found the deadly effects of energy drinks on our bodies. The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements (补充)in energy drinks make up a deadly mixture of ingredients that can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital!‎ A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly change the way our heart functions. The study went on to say that consuming energy drinks often causes significantly increased heart contractions in adults, which has the potential of putting you at risk for irregular heartbeats.‎ It is possible that many people are unconscious of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled. Most energy drinks contain between 80 milligrams to over 350 milligrams of caffeine, sugar and energy supplements. When an energy drink is marketed as a diet supplement, it may be distributed without a "nutrition facts" label, which would show the harmful supplements that are in the drink. However, even if energy drinks are Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved, they don’t have to show the number of supplements.‎ Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body. To stay naturally energized, get organized and stay on top of your work so that you aren't having to stay up all night to complete assigned tasks. If you'd like a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short workout, which will give you all of the energy you need!‎ - 28 -‎ ‎8. Which of the following is the side effect of the energy drinks?‎ A. Making people thinner.‎ B. Making people's heart bigger.‎ C. Making people run a risk of falling ill.‎ D. Making people suffer from heart attack.‎ ‎9. Why are many people unaware of the harmful effects of energy drinks?‎ A. Because they don't read the label carefully.‎ B. Because FDA thinks they are healthy drinks.‎ C. Because the harmful materials are not labelled.‎ D. Because factories of energy drinks lie to drinkers.‎ ‎10. What is the last paragraph mainly about?‎ A. The benefits of doing exercise.‎ B. The better choice of right drinks.‎ C. The way to have enough energy.‎ D The effects of energy drinks.‎ ‎11. What is the best title for the text?‎ A. Don't Drink Energy Drinks B Many People Enjoy Energy Drinks C. The Materials Energy Drinks Contain D. Energy Drinks Could Send You to Hospital ‎【答案】8. C 9. C 10. C 11. 根据第二段“The sugar, caffeine and energy supplements(添加物) in energy drinks make up a deadly mixture of ingredients that can affect your heart function and send you to the hospital”可知,能量饮料中的糖、咖啡因和能量添加物合起来构成有危害的混合物成分,可能影响你的心脏功能,对身体有害,并把你送到医院。 根据第四段第一句“It is possible that many people are unaware of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled” 由于能量饮料的标签方式,很多人可能没有意识到它令人担忧的副作用。 根据最后一段最后一句“If you'd like a natural energy boost, you could make time for a short workout, which will give you all of the energy you need” 如果你想要一个自然的能量提升,你可以腾出时间进行一个简短的锻炼,这将给你所有的能量需要! 第一段中的“You may have an energy drink, but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks” 你可能喝了一杯能量饮料,但是喝一杯能量的好处危害相比是微不足道。第二段“A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly change the way our heart functions.” 第三段“many people are unconscious of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled.” 最后一段“Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body” 能量饮料可能广泛供应,但对你的身体来说,它们不是最健康或最安全的选择。 第一段中的“You may have an energy drink,but the benefits of drinking one are heavily outweighed by the risks” 你可能喝了一杯能量饮料,但是喝一杯能量的好处微不足道。第二段“A study by the University of Bonn, Germany found that frequent consumption of energy drinks can greatly change the way our heart functions.” 第三段“many people are unconscious of the alarming side effects of energy drinks because of the way they are labelled.” 最后一段“Energy drinks may be widely available but they aren't the healthiest or safest choice for your body” 能量饮料可以广泛供应,但对你的身体来说,它们不是最健康或最安全的选择。 ‎ D The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is returning a fish called the alligator gar to the state's rivers. Some people call the fish a “living fossil." Experts believe the fish first appeared during the Early Cretaceous period more than 100 million years ago.‎ Randy Sauer is an Illinois state fisheries biologist. He says the fish disappeared from the state's rivers in the 1990s, although they have continued to do well in southern states. Sauer says biologists want to bring the fish back to northern rivers "because it is important to have top predators (捕食者)to balance the species below them," he said.‎ Sport fishermen like to try to catch the alligator gar. Alligator gar are the second-largest freshwater fish in North America. They can grow as large as 2,7 meters and weigh more than 136 kilograms. Sauer says their large size is one reason they disappeared in the 1990s. Experts say alligator gars are '"opportunistic feeders." This means they will eat almost anything — including small turtles or ducks. They also eat invasive species such as Asian silver carp. Sauer hopes the reintroduction - 28 -‎ ‎ of the alligator gar will help the state's efforts to control the carp. Because alligator gar can live up to 60 years, the program will continue to increase for many years.‎ Sauer notes that female alligator gars do "not sexually mature until 11 years, and the male not till 6 or 7 years' That means the biologists will try to raise and release a lot offish early in the program to reintroduce them. “We're probably going to stock (储备)more heavily than 10 or 20 years down the road when hopefulIy these fish will find each other and start doing the job on their own." Sauer says.‎ Small devices have been placed in 7,000 of the fish so they can be observed after they are released into the waterways of Illinois. As it rains and floods, biologists expect some of the fish will follow the rivers into the states of Louisiana and Texas.‎ ‎12. Why people call the alligator gar “living fossil"?‎ A. They have existed for over 100 million years.‎ B. They can grow up to 136 kilograms.‎ C. Their fossil can be found on earth.‎ D. They can grow up to 2.7 meters.‎ ‎13. Biologists will reintroduce the alligator gar to northern rivers in order to_______ .‎ A. increase the number of the alligar gar B. help people make more money C. help to protect the environment D. keep the species' balance ‎14. According to Randy Sauer, alligar gar died out in northern rivers because ________.‎ A. they ate almost anything B. they were very huge in size C. the rivers were polluted then D. they were caught by sport fishermen ‎15. What can we learn from the underlined statement?‎ A. 10 or 20 years will be needed to find these fish.‎ B. It will be decades before these fish produce young.‎ - 28 -‎ C. There is a long way to go before the fish find each other D. These fish can find each other themselves along the waterways.‎ ‎【答案】12. A 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段“Some people call the fish a “living fossil." Experts believe the fish first appeared during the Early Cretaceous period more than 100 million years ago.” 根据第二段最后 biologists want to bring the fish back to northern rivers "because it is important to have top predators (捕食者)to balance the species below them, 生物学家希望把这些鱼带回北部河流,“因为拥有顶级捕食者来平衡它们下面的物种是很重要的”。 根据第三段中的“Sauer says their large size is one reason they disappeared in the 1990s” Sauer说,鳄鱼的体型很大是它们在20世纪90年代消失的原因之一。 根据倒数第二段划线的上文“Sauer notes that female alligator gars do "not sexually mature until 11 years, and the male not till 6 or 7 years .That means the biologists will try to raise and release a lot of fish early in the program to reintroduce them.” 因此划线句子“We're probably going to stock (储备)more heavily than 10 or 20 years down the road when hopefulIy these fish will find each other and start doing - 28 -‎ ‎ the job on their own "此句是指 “我们可能会在未来的10到20年里囤积更多的鱼,希望这些鱼能找到彼此,自己完成使命”Sauer说。 根据第二段最后 biologists want to bring the fish back to northern rivers "because it is important to have top predators (捕食者)to balance the species below them, 生物学家希望把这些鱼带回北部河流,“因为拥有顶级捕食者来平衡它们下面的物种是很重要的”。 You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. ___16___Here's how:‎ Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. Firstyour time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying. ___17___A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you to realize what is happening to your time.‎ Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a comer of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.‎ Make good use of your time in class. ___18___ Listening carefully in class means less work Inter. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.‎ - 28 -‎ Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. ___19___ If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you'll remember it longer.‎ Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don't pass a test, so don’t be over worried.‎ ‎___20___ You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.‎ A. This will help you understand the next class.‎ B. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to.‎ C. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.‎ D. No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.‎ E. There are other methods that might help you with your studying.‎ F. Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.‎ G. Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teacher says in class.‎ ‎【答案】16. B 17. C 18. F 19. A 20. 根据上句“Maybe you are an average student.
