Unit 4
Unit 4 Body Language Learn to read body language You frown when you are unhappy. Your parents give a thumbs-up for good grades. Soccer players give high-five each other after a goal. These are examples of body language. It uses the movement or position of your body. The way that you stand, your hand gestures, the look on your face — these are all ways to communicate without words. According to the US scientist Edward T. Hall, in a conversation between two people, 65 percent of communication is done through body language. In some cases, you can express yourself without any words at all. For example, if your friend asks you to come on a picnic, you could give him an “OK” gesture. Sometimes, your words say one thing but your body language says another. For example, you may touch your face unconsciously while telling a lie. However, just like spoken language, body language isn’t universal. It can have a totally different meaning in different cultures. While in some Asian countries, it is rude to look straight at a person while you talk, in the US and Europe, eye contact means you are interested in what someone is saying. Another example is greetings. In some Asian cultures, it’s common to bow one’s head or body. However, in European countries, people may kiss each other’s cheeks. Maoris ( 毛利人 ), the native people of New Zealand, touch noses as a greeting. So before you travel, you may want to brush up ( 温习 ) on body language. Cry on My Shoulder If the hero never comes to you If you need someone You’re feeling blue If you wait for love And you’re alone If you call your friends nobody’s home You can 1. _________ But you can’t hide Through a storm And through a lonely night Then I’ll show you there’s a destiny The best things in life run away They are free But if you wanna cry Cry on my shoulder If you need someone Who 2. ________you If you’re feeling sad Your heart gets colder cares for Yes I show you What real love can do If your sky is grey oh 3. ___________ There’s a place in heaven Where we’ll go If heaven is a million years away Oh 4. __________ let me know just call me And I’ll make your day When the nights Are getting cold and blue When the days Are getting hard for you I will always stay here by your side I promise you I’ll never hide But if you wanna cry Cry on my shoulder If you need someone Who cares for you If you’re feeling sad Your heart gets colder Yes I show you What real love can do But if you wanna cry Cry on my shoulder If you need someone Who cares for you If you’re feeling sad Your heart gets colder Yes I show you What real love can do What real love can do What real love can do What love can do What love can do Love can do 【 词海拾贝 】 【 听力微语系列 】 听力中的“判断事件细节”题 这类考查的设问形式常为 : What are the speakers doing?
