You Are Free C. J.D. Salinger:A Life D. Red Wolf B Both of my parents worked full time when I was a little girl, so my grandmother would stay at our house during the day. We would watch game shows in the living room. Our favorite was The Price Is Right. We would call out our answers along with the contestants. When I got older and started going to school, we couldn’t watch our game shows regularly. That was okay with me, though, because the one thing I liked better than watching game shows with my grandmother was helping her bake (烘烤) cakes. Watching her in the kitchen was amazing: she never seemed to need the recipes but everything she made tasted delicious. At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch, even though I didn’t understand what she was doing. As I grew older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring the sugar. The day she let me separate the eggs, I felt like I had found complete pleasure. At last, my parents decided that I could take care of myself, and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up burnt sometimes, more often they turned out pretty well. I tried out new recipes, and whenever I got to a thorny part, I would call my grandmother for advice. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything. My grandmother passed away ten years ago, but I still think of her every day. Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me. It included her recipes for brownies, cookies, and my favorite lemon pie. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could hear her voice. She was the one who taught me not just about baking, but about life. 24. How is the passage developed? A. In order of time. B. In order of place. C. In order of logic. D. In order of events. 25. While helping her grandmother bake, the author . A. missed the game shows B. refused to go to school C. could take care of herself D. showed her great interest 26. What does the underlined word “thorny” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean? A. Basic. B. Difficult. C. Common. D. Special. 27. What’s the author’s purpose in writing this passage? A. To show her good baking skills. B. To describe her childhood memories. C. To talk about her happy family life. D. To remember her grandmother. C The United State Department of Agriculture has a program called Wildlife Services. Its job is to protect agricultural and other resources from threats and damage by wildlife. Often that means helping farmers deal with unwelcome visitors. One example from Wildlife Services of its work involved a farmer in Washington state, in the Pacific Northwest Several years ago, thousands of Canada geese (黑雁) landed on his fields. The geese began to eat his carrot crops. Biologists from the program suggested that the farmer use noise-making devices and the other measures to scare the large birds away. These efforts succeeded. Wildlife Services program has a livestock (家畜) protection program .The agency kills foxes, wolves and other predators ( 食肉动物) . Critics, however, say too many animals are killed that do not threaten livestock. The Wildlife Services program is part of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) APHIS offers some suggestions of ways to keep away predators. For example, try to keep food and water safe from wildlife. Fences may help keep out wolves, especially if the fences are at least two meters high. For best results, the bottom of the fence should extend (延伸) about fifteen centimeters into the ground. The experts also suggest using lights above places where animals are kept. And they advise people who see wolves around their property to chase them away by shouting, making loud noise or throwing rocks. For home gardeners, a two-meter fence might help keep out deer. To keep out rabbits, a wire fence has to be only about a half-meter high. It should extend over fifteen centimeters underground to keep rabbits from digging under it. 28.Which of the following is Wildlife Services expected to do according to the passage? A. To protect wildlife that is in danger. B. To help farmers whose families are poor C. To help farmers deal with unwelcome wildlife. D. To kill unwelcome wildlife 29.Why is the farmer mentioned in the second paragraph? A. To show how Wildlife Services was set up. B. To show what serious trouble farmers are in. C. To show what Wildlife Services does D. To show how harmful Canada geese are. 30.Why are some people against the livestock protection program? A. Because too many harmless animals are also killed. B. Because too much noises are made. C. Because it costs too much money. D. Because they don’t think it successful in protecting the livestock. 31. The passage is mainly about __________ . A. how to protect agriculture B. a program aimed at protecting agriculture C. a service for protecting wildlife D. how to keep away wildlife D Emotional eating is when people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of to satisfy hunger. We've all been there, finishing a whole bag of chips out of boredom or eating cookie after cookie while cramming for a big test. But when done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, health, and overall well-being. Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings. But understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it. One of the biggest myths about emotional eating is that it's caused by negative feelings. Yes, people often turn to food when they're stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing dessert on Valentine's Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. Sometimes emotional eating is tied to major life events, like a death or a divorce. More often, though, it's the countless little daily stresses that cause someone to seek comfort or distraction in food. Emotional eating patterns can be learned: A child who is given candy after a big achievement may grow up using candy as a reward for a job well done. A kid who is given cookies as a way to stop crying may learn to link cookies with comfort. We're all emotional eaters to some extent. But for some people, emotional eating can be a real problem, causing serious weight gain or cycles of binging and purging. The trouble with emotional eating (apart from the health issues) is that once the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain. And you often may feel worse about eating the amount or type of food you did. That's why it helps to know the differences between physical hunger and emotional hunger. Next time you reach for a snack, check in and see which type of hunger is driving it. 32.The passage is mainly about _______. A. how to have a healthy diet B. what emotional eating is and its harm C. the relationship between eating and feelings D. the differences between physical hunger and emotional hunger 33.By saying “We’ve all been there”, the author means________. A.finishing a whole bag of chips out of boredom is bad B.we are all emotional eaters to some extent C.our health will be affected by emotional eating D.people eat more without realizing it 34.According to the passage, what is the cause of emotional eating? A.Candies and cookies. B.Countless daily stresses. C.Negative feelings as well as positive feelings. D.Boredom and the test. 35.Which of the followings is NOT true? A.The romance of sharing dessert on Valentine’s Day is good for our health. B.Major life events, like a death or a divorce contribute to emotional eating. C.We learn emotional eating when we are children. D.We may feel worse after emotional eating. 第二节:(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。有两项为多余选项。 Body Language Tips for Lifting Your Confidence Practice smiling. He looks very peaceful when he is sleeping. (1) M: He’s been playing all day. It’s his daily schedule — play, eat, and sleep. Text 2 M: Could you pass me the sugar, please? (2) I need some for my coffee. W: Where is it? M: Right next to the salt. Text 3 M: The basketball game is on TV at 6:30 tonight. Do you want to watch it together? W: Tonight I’ll be working until 8:30. (3) Why don’t you call Sally? She loves basketball. Text 4 W: You want to buy this dictionary, right? M: Yeah. The price is £14, but I’ve only got £9. W: I’ve got £7, so I can lend you the rest. (4) Text 5 W: Your house looks great. By the way, where is your family? M: My parents are at my elder sister’s house. And my brother is studying in his school library. W: That means we will have a quiet evening studying at your house. (5) Text 6 M: Where have you been going every day, Mei? (6) (7) W: Oh, I’m just taking some art lessons. M: Is it painting? W: Not really. M: Is it drawing? W: It’s like drawing. I’m learning how to draw Chinese words. (6) M: You must be a very smart and patient person. That’s a difficult art to learn. W: It does take a lot of practice. My teacher is very good, though, and he makes it fun to study. (7) M: Will you show me a little? W: Not until I’m better at it. I just started last month. Text 7 W: My camera takes bad pictures. (8) M: Let me see the screen first… (8) It seems OK. Have you gotten any water into your camera? W: No, never. M: Hmm… Maybe it’s just getting old. Here, I’ll take a photo of myself. Hey, this picture is pretty good! There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with your camera, Lillian. (9) W: Well, the pictures never turn out good for me! See this one? My eyes look tired. Don’t you agree? M: Yes, but… W: And in this one, my face is so red. The camera must be on the wrong setting(设置). M: Actually, I don’t think it’s the camera’s fault… (9) Text 8 W: Phil, we need to think about our parents’ future. (10) When they’re too old to live alone, should we put them in a home? M: Yes, they’ll live with you or me. Or maybe they will take turns with our homes, first living with my family and then with yours. (10) W: I was talking about an elderly care home, where they have nurses and other staff who help them. It’s also common in the United Kingdom. M: That sounds terrible! He’s a smart guy. He decided to take classes from a university in Shanghai when his basketball career was over in 2011. He’s also the president of the Chinese Basketball Association(中国篮球协会). I’m so proud to be speaking at the graduating class of the University of California, Los Angeles today. I hope you can learn something from my story. I came to the United States with my father when I was ten years old. He had family in California, so we moved here to live with them. (17) I didn’t know any English, and school was hard for me. I didn’t have any friends, either. My father was a doctor in China, but he had to work at a fish market once we got to San Francisco. I decided that I would be a doctor one day and make him proud. (18) It was pretty hard. I stayed after school every day to get help from my teacher. And I made many American friends who helped me with my English. After many years of hard work and studying, I went to college in New York City and then one of the best medical schools in Boston. (19) Now I am a doctor, and my father is very proud of me. My story shows you can make your dreams true if you work hard and find good people to help you. (20) 查看更多
