Currently I am living in Canada and I am very lucky because I love a lot of the traditional food here, especially as some of it is similar to the food in the UK. It is quite easy to find food such as baked beans, meat pies and fish and chips, which are all British food but were not very common when I lived in France. Yet it can never be quite the same. For example, the fish and chips here is not greasy(高脂肪的)so I’m glad that this is propitious to my health. Also , mushy peas and vinegar are not a main part of the fish-and-chip supper in Quebec; once when I ordered the dish in a restaurant, it even came with salad and rice! However, globalization( 全球化) means that many types of food have spread to other countries in one form or another. My friends and family joke that I cannot spend a week without my favorite meal of spaghetti. It is true that in almost every country I have visited, I have enjoyed a meal of spaghetti, in Canada, Germany, Spain, Romania and even in Thailand! However, I always make sure I enjoy the local food too. From my time in Canada so far , I have known that there will be food I am going to miss when I return home. I will have to make sure that I have enough room in my suitcase to pack a few large bottles of the country’s tastiest treat! 3. What does the author think of local food in every country? A. It enriches his boring life. B. It makes him proud of his country. C. It is similar to the food in the UK. D. It helps him learn about other countries. 4. What does the underlined word “propitious” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Beneficial. B. Harmful. C. Unnecessary. D. Precious. 5. The author mentions globalization to show that . A. his friends can visit him at any time. B. food needs to be improved in Canada C. he can enjoy what he likes in other countries D. Canada affects the whole world in many aspects. 6. What can we infer from the last paragraph? A. Food in Canada is as delicious as that in the UK. B. Canadian food deeply influences the author. C. The author misses his country very much. D. The author plans to take much food home. C "Get up, get up, Jim. It's time to get up!" my mother said while she was pushing me. I opened my eyes and looked at the clock. "Oh dear! It's a quarter to eight already. I'll be late for school again," I thought. I jumped out of the bed, washed my face, then hurried to the bus stop without breakfast. As soon as I got on the bus, it started running. "I'm sure I can get to the school on time," I said to myself. Suddenly the bus stopped. The bus driver got off the bus, then got on the bus again and said, "I'm sorry, ladies and gentlemen. There's something wrong with the bus. Please get off the bus and wait for another one." "I couldn't wait. The school is not far. I'd better run to the school," I thought, and then I began to run. But before I got to the school, it began to rain hard. I reached the classroom but I was wet shivering(颤抖) with cold. The physics teacher had already begun his lesson. It was Mr. Smith. He was about fifty years old. All the students were a little afraid of him and so was I. I liked neither him nor his physics lessons. I hesitated(犹豫) for a moment and then I opened the door. "I'm very sorry, Mr. Smith. I'm late again," I said with a red face. "It's you again, Jim," Mr. smith said angrily. "I've told you not be late, but you…" he suddenly stopped and looked at my wet clothes. He turned to the class and said, "I'm very sorry, my boys and girls." With these words he quickly took off his own jacket and handed it to me. "Now take off your wet coat and put this one or you'll catch cold," he said kindly. I went to my seat with Mr. Smith's jacket on. It was a bit large for me but I felt very warm in it. I found, for the first time, physics was so interesting and how well I could understand it! 1. Jim was late for school because . A. he was ill. B. he had to wait for the bus C. it rained heavily D. there was something wrong with the bus 2. Mr. Smith, the physics teacher, at first when Jim came into the classroom. A. felt sad B. was unhappy C. looked worried D. looked kind 3. Jim felt that . A. the jacket was large enough to keep him warm B. physics is easy if you like the physics teachers C. he understood what Mr. Smith said all the time D. Mr. Smith took good care of him 4. From the story, we can learn that . A. students can't be late for school B. physics is very difficult C. students can learn better if teachers love them D. you'll catch cold if your clothes are wet D For most of my life, I’ve been disappointed in robots. Movies always describe them as smart and cool. But for decades, real robots have been little more than production-line arms at car factories. In the past three years, though, something has changed. Self-driving cars have run nearly two million miles on public roads. Drones have gotten smart enough to avoid hitting things. And two-legged, walking robots are suddenly real. Now some world-famous people- including Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk—are speaking out about the dangers of those increasingly smart machines. “Full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.” Hawking has said. The worry is that once AI gets smart enough, it will be able to improve its own software over and over again, every hour or minute. It will quickly become much smarter than humans. “ It could be wonderful, or it could be pretty bad.” Tegmark, a professor from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, says. In July, Tegmark’s group published an open letter expressing alarm at the rising threat of AI. In the future, robots will likely take even more of our jobs. The first to go, of course, will be the ones that are the most easily automated, such as store clerks and tax preparer. “If you teach kindergarten, you’ll get to keep your job a lot longer.” Tegmark says. The message, in the end, is not that AI will spell the end of the world but that we should keep pace with the rapid developments in AI itself. “ AI also has huge positive aspects ---potential to cure all diseases and to help life spread into the space---if we get it right.” Tegmark says. 1. Why does the author feel disappointed in robots? A. They are terrible beyond description. B. They are not as advanced as in movies. C. They are mainly used as production-line arms. D. They are not smart enough to improve themselves. 2. How does the author feel about the rapid development of AI? A. Amazed. B. Pleased. C. Worried. D. Puzzled. 3. What can we learn about the robots in the future? A. They will cure rare diseases. B. They will threaten humans’ safety C .They will replace humans in many jobs. D. They will turn our home into a smart space. 4. What may be the best title for the text? A. Future jobs in the world of AI. B. Let’s prepare for the coming of AI. C. AI presents a threat to human beings D. The advantages and disadvantages of AI. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Note-taking is a skill that can help you do well in all your schoolwork everything from taking tests to researching a paper.
