She began skating when she was five, and entered and won her first figure skating competition at seven. At a height of almost 310 meters, it is the tallest building in Europe. The Shard has completely changed the appearance of London. However, not everyone thinks that it is a change for the better.‎ The Shard was designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano. When he began designing the Shard for London, Piano wanted a very tall building that looked like a spire (尖顶). He wanted the glass surfaces to reflect the sky and the city. The sides of the building aren't regular. So the building has an unusual shape. It looks like a very thin, sharp piece of broken glass. And that is how the building got the name: ‎ the Shard. Piano says that the spire shape of the Shard is part of a great London tradition. The shape reminds him of the spires of the churches of London or the tall masts (桅杆) of the ships that were once on the river Thames.‎ The Shard has 87 floors. At the top, there is an observatory. At the moment the building is empty, but eventually there will be a five-star hotel. There will also be top quality restaurants, apartments and offices.‎ Before building work began, a lot of people didn't want the Shard though the plans were approved. Now they are still unhappy about the Shard. Some critics say that such a tall skyscraper might be good in a city like New York, but not in London. They say that the best thing about the Shard is its spire shape. But that is the only thing. There is no decoration, only flat surfaces. The Egyptians did that 4,500 years ago. They also think the Shard is too big for London. It destroys the beauty of the city.‎ Other critics don't like what the Shard seems to represent. They say that the Shard shows how London is becoming more unequal. Only very rich people can afford to buy the expensive private apartments and stay in the hotel. But the people who live near the Shard are among the poorest in London. So the Shard seems a symbol of the division in society between the very rich and the poor.‎ The Shard now dominates the London skyline. It is not certain, however, that ordinary London citizens will ever accept it as a valuable addition to the city. ‎ ‎24.London's newest skyscraper is called the Shard because of ___.‎ A.its size B.its cost ‎ C.its shape D.its height ‎25.When he designed the Shard, Piano wanted it to ___.‎ A.change London's skyline ‎ B.inherit London's tradition ‎ C.imitate the Egyptian style D.attract potential visitors ‎26.The critics who refer to social division think the Shard ___.‎ A.is only preferred by the rich ‎ B.is far away from the poor area C.is intended for wealthy people D.is popular only with Londoners ‎27.Which would be the best title for the passage?___‎ A.The Shard: Cheers and Claps B.The Shard: Work of a Great Architect C.The Shard: New Symbol of London?‎ D.The Shard: A Change for the Better?‎ C Sunstroke is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn't given immediately.‎ Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke, is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working.‎ It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke.‎ Call for help Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted (昏倒).Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance.Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn't much nearby.‎ Get the person to a cooler area If there's a building nearby, aim for that.Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a well-shaded area.‎ Get the water flowing If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it.‎ If your water supply is limited, you have to save it.Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body.Focus on the face, neck, and chest.‎ Fan the person Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down.Use anything,a towel or sheet,a shirt, your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body.‎ ‎28.When does a person get sunstroke?_______‎ A.When the body doesn't function.‎ B.When proper care is given immediately.‎ C.When someone is exposed to the sun too long.‎ D.When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear.‎ ‎29.What is mainly discussed in the passage?_______‎ A.The first aid for sunstroke.‎ B.The causes of sunstroke.‎ C.The chief symptoms of sunstroke.‎ D.The essential prevention of sunstroke.‎ ‎30.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text?______‎ A.Call for assistance from others.‎ B.Leave the sunstroke person in the shade.‎ C.Put a wet towel on the person's face.‎ D.Help the person take some medicine.‎ ‎31.The text probably comes from_______.‎ A.a guidebook B.a book review C.a medical magazine D.an official document D Bad news sells. If it bleeds, it leads. No news is good news, and good news is no news. Those are the classic rules for the evening broadcasts and the morning papers. But now that information is being spread and monitored(监控) in different ways, researchers are discovering new rules.By tracking people's e-mails and online posts, scientists have found that good news can spread faster and farther than disasters and sob stories.‎ ‎“The ‘if it bleeds’ rule works for mass media,” says Jonah Berger, a scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.“They want your eyeballs and don't care how you're feeling. But when you share a story with your friends, you care a lot more how they react. You don't want them to think of you as a Debbie Downer.” ‎ Researchers analyzing word-of-mouth communication—e-mails,Web posts and reviews, face-to-face conversations—found that it tended to be more positive than negative(消极的), but that didn't necessarily mean people preferred positive news. Was positive news shared more often simply because people experienced more good things than bad things? To test for that possibility, Dr.Berger looked at how people spread a particular set of news stories: thousands of articles on The New York Times' website. He and a Penn colleague analyzed the “most e-mailed” list for six months. One of his first finds was that articles in the science section were much more ‎ likely to make the list than non-science articles. He found that science amazed Times' readers and made them want to share this positive feeling with others.‎ Readers also tended to share articles that were exciting or funny, or that inspired negative feelings like anger or anxiety, but not articles that left them merely sad. They needed to be aroused(激发) one way or the other, and they preferred good news to bad.The more positive an article, the more likely it was to be shared, as Dr.Berger explains in his new book, “Contagious: Why Things Catch On.”‎ ‎32.What do the classic rules mentioned in the text apply to?___‎ A.News reports. ‎ B.Research papers.‎ C.Private e-mails.‎ D.Daily conversations.‎ ‎33.What can we infer about people like Debbie Downer?__‎ A.They're socially inactive.‎ B.They're good at telling stories.‎ C.They're inconsiderate of others.‎ D.They're careful with their words.‎ ‎34.Which tended to be the most e-mailed according to Dr.Berger's research?__‎ A.Sports news. B.Science articles.‎ C.Personal accounts. D.Financial reviews.‎ ‎35.What can be a suitable title for the text?_ _‎ A.Sad Stories Travel Far and Wide.‎ B.Online News Attracts More People.‎ C.Reading Habits Change with the Times.‎ D.Good News Beats Bad on Social Networks.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ I'm 30 years old, and there are several things that life has taught me that I want to share with you. Here are the 4 lessons that life has taught me in the past 30 years.‎ ‎1. Take Care of Your Body Life is “unfairly” biased(偏向的) towards people who “look good”,‎ ‎ like it or not. So it's important that you do all that is in your power to look your best. 36. You will live longer, and you will live happier, if you take care of your body; you may even get promoted faster on your job. Remember that your health is really your greatest wealth.‎ ‎2. 37. ‎ No one taught me to save when I was growing up; no one told me the importance of saving. Fortunately I was able to learn the value of saving through reading great books like The Millionaire Next Door. What I want to teach others is to save at least twenty percent of your income. If you are to be wealthy, you must not just earn a lot, you must save a lot.‎ ‎3.Think long-term In high school I was thinking about college;in college I was thinking about life after college.I'm designing my life and I'm making decisions today that will enable me to live the life I desire when I'm in my 40's, 50's and 60's. You have to think long-term;you have to see the “big picture.” 38. ‎ ‎4. Realize the Power of Focus Focus, focus, focus... 39. If you fail in this lifetime, you will fail because of broken focus. If you focus on the goals that are most important to you, you will achieve them. The problem is that there are so many distractions. 40. Winners decide to major on majors, and they even let important things slip, because they just focus on achieving what is critical to their goals.‎ A.The importance of saving.‎ B.If you plan your future properly, you will live into your plans.‎ C.Save Your Money.‎ D.Nothing is more critical than focus.‎ E.What separates the winners from the losers is that the winners learn to focus on their goal.‎ F.I mean dressing nicely, working out and eating right.‎ G.It's critical that you pursue relationships with individuals who are good first.‎ 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节;满分45分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D),选出最佳选项。‎ One afternoon I’d been driving down the freeway when I spotted what looked like a stalled (熄火的) car.
