When I raised my head up, my eyes were cast on a bare tree with few leaves left, waving in the chilly Autumn wind. This little sad scene was strongly reminiscent( 怀旧的)of my childhood.‎ I used to live with my grandmother who loved planting flowers and trees in the yard. In the afternoon, she always read fairy tales to me under the trees. Our life was simple but full of joy. It seems I didn’t worry about anything. What a precious period! No amount of money or honor will change it back. Maybe that’s why I always can’t help but recall my childhood, especially in depress. Because being grown-ups, we have to make decisions, to suffer from so much stress, and to avoid making mistakes. Being grown-ups, we have to take responsibility for our own behaviors, to lay groundwork for the imaginary future, and to learn to be strong and tough after a failure. So many invisible things are forcing us to live in a sensible way instead of being controlled by emotion. Before every step we will take, we have to stop and think it over and over again until it seems we make the right decision. So overwhelmed, but we have no choice that we have to make a choice. We are desperately and supremely tired.‎ Why not have a break? Why not do what we want to without a second thought? Why not ignore the word “sense” for a while? Why not cast our so-called responsibility for a moment? Why not?‎ We are not restless machines, and we know what rest or break means. Now, take a short break, without caring how time flies. Life itself is so simple that we can change it easily. As a result, we live a more sophisticated(复杂的) life. If we don’t stop for a rest, nobody knows into what form all the accumulated stress will burst. Take a rest, and you will see the sun shining, hear the birds chirping, and smell the fragrant flowers!‎ ‎24. Why does the author describe a bare tree with few leaves left in the first paragraph?‎ A. To suggest that she had nothing to do but wander around.‎ ‎25. What’s the author’s childhood life like?‎ A. Simple and boring. B. Busy and tired.‎ C. Poor but joyful. D. Plain but delighted.‎ ‎26. According to the author, the growing pains of being grown-ups are as follows except____.‎ A. we have to make decisions by ourselves and be responsible for our behaviors.‎ B. we have to avoid mistakes and learn to be stronger after failing to deal with some problems.‎ C. we have to make good preparations for future and live in a sensible way carefully.‎ D. we have to think twice before making a choice and then follow our emotion.‎ ‎27.. What’s the purpose of writing this passage?‎ A. To advise people to look back on their childhood.‎ B. To recommend people to think twice before making a decision.‎ C. To call on people to have a break and admire our colorful life.‎ D. To appeal to people to live simply and freely and ignore the sense.‎ C A typical lion tamer (驯兽师) in people’s mind is an entertainer holding a whip (鞭) and a chair. The whip gets all of the attention, but it’s mostly for show. In reality, it’s the chair that does the important work. When a lion tamer holds a chair in front of the lion’s face, the lion tries to focus on all four legs of the chair at the same time. With its focus divided, the lion becomes confused and is unsure about what to do next. When faced with so many options, the lion chooses to freeze and wait instead of attacking the man holding the chair.‎ How often do you find yourself in the same position as the lion? How often do you have something you want to achieve (e.g. lose weight, start a business, travel more) ---- only to end up confused by all of the options in front of you and never make progress?‎ This upsets me to no end because while all the experts are busy debating about which option is best, the people who want to improve their lives are left confused by all of the conflicting information. The end result is that we feel like we can’t focus or that we’re focused on the wrong things, and so we take less action, make less progress, and stay the same when we could be improving.‎ It doesn’t have to be that way. Anytime you find the world waving a chair in your face, remember this: All you need to do is focus on one thing. You just need to get started. Starting before you feel ready is one of the habits of successful people. If you have somewhere you want to go, something you want to accomplish, someone you want to become … take immediate action. If you’re clear about where you want to go, the rest of the world will either help you get there or get out of the way.‎ ‎28. Why does the lion tamer use a chair?‎ A. To show off his skills. B. To trick the lion.‎ C. To get ready for a fight. D. To entertain the audience.‎ ‎29. In what sense are people similar to a lion facing a chair?‎ A. They feel puzzled over choices. B. They hold on to the wrong things.‎ C. They find it hard to make changed. D. They have to do something for show.‎ ‎30. What is the author’s attitude towards the experts mentioned in Paragraph 3?‎ A. Tolerant. B. Doubtful. C. Respectful. D. Supportive.‎ ‎31. When the world is “waving a chair in your face”, you’re advised to _______.‎ A. wait for a better chance B. break your old habits C. make a quick decision D. ask for clear guidance D A new study led by Colorado State University( CSU)and Wildlife Conservation Society showed that outdoor recreation activities in protected areas can do more harm than benefit in wildlife living in the area.‎ The study, published in the journal PLOS ONE, showed that outdoor recreation activities, such as hiking, in protected areas can negatively affect wildlife by making nearby animals flee, taking time away from feeding and running out of their reserved energy.‎ ‎“People generally assume that recreation activities are compatible with conservation goals for protected areas,” said Courtney Larson, a graduate student at CSU’ s Department of Fish, Wildlife and Conservation Biology and lead author of the study, in a press release. “However, our review of the evidence across wildlife species and habitat types worldwide suggests otherwise.”‎ For the study, the researchers analyzed 274 scientific articles that were published between ‎1981-2015. These articles discuss the potential effects of recreation on different animal species living across all geographical areas.‎ Among the reviewed scientific articles, the researchers observed more than 93 percent indicated at least one effect of recreation on animals living nearby.Out of those, about 59 percent were negative.Reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates(无脊椎动物) are at most risk of the negative effect of recreation activities. On the other hand, birds in the crow family and mammals in the rodent(啮齿目动物)family seem to benefit from recreation activities in protected areas. These benefits include increased abundance and reduced flight responses.‎ The most documented negative effect of recreation activities includes decrease in species diversity. The researchers also observed that the species negatively affected by recreation activity experience decreases survival, reproduction and abundance. These species may also experience behavioral and psychological disturbances, such as decrease in foraging(觅食)and increased stress.‎ With their findings, the researchers noted that there should be a clear distinction between recreation and conservation, and the combination of the two is not appropriate for all species, in all areas. The study also shows the importance of developing a science-based solution to avoid or reduce the negative effects of recreation activity, especially now that 94 percent of the protected areas around the world are open for nature-loving tourists.‎ ‎32. What does the passage mainly talk about?‎ A. Outdoor recreation activities can negatively affect wildlife.‎ B. The importance of the founding of wildlife conservation areas.‎ C. How the balance between recreation and conservation can be kept.‎ D. Some animals benefit from recreation activities in protected areas.‎ ‎33. We can use “______” to replace the underlined phrase “are compatible with” in Paragraph 3.‎ A. are equal to B. are in conflict with C. exist together with D. don’t match with ‎34. Which of the following is one of the harmful effects of recreation on wildlife?‎ A. Increasing abundance. B. Increasing stress.‎ C. Reducing flight responses. D. Taking their time feeding.‎ ‎35. What can be inferred from the passage?‎ A. There is no balance between recreation and conservation in the protected area.‎ B. It is suggested that recreation activities should be forbidden in the protected area.‎ C. We are warned that a species in protected areas are at risk because of recreation.‎ D. Ways‎ must be found to deal with the negative effects of recreation before too late.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ We are not born with courage, but neither are we born with fear. Worse still, you haven’t got better after taking medicine. Therefore I suggest you try Chinese medicine.‎ From my perspective, Chinese medicine is superior to western medicine in a sense. If there is anything you need me to do, don’t hesitate to inform me.‎ Yours,‎ Li Hua
