This is not a trick question but rather an honest understanding into the inner workings of each one of us. We usually share with our friends a piece of who we are, the piece that we want them to like or connect with. However, there is a secret, a hidden piece that doesn’t want to be noticed by others.‎ Our personal inner beliefs play a vital role in the way we think, act and live. They set us up to accept a belief and then it is the belief that separates our personal story. There are numerous people who have taken on the pain and suffering of their parents. Some have devoted their lives to living with lack; that is lack of love because they saw what they thought was love while in the crib (婴儿床) and it frightened them. Subconsciously (潜意识地) they made great efforts in their lives to avoid a similar experience.‎ Each one of us carries around with us our inner beliefs. If one of your beliefs is one that causes you to hold back from getting the perfect job or blocking love to come to you, that belief is a negative belief and one that needs to be dealt with if you are seeking a life of joy, contentment and personal success, whether it is emotional, spiritual, financial or physical.‎ Don’t let your blocked or frozen emotions guide the way you want to lead your life. Now it is your time to finally become victorious over those past situations that have upset you during your entire life and become the winner you were born to be.‎ ‎21.What is the author’s purpose with a question at the beginning?‎ A. To explain who we are really.‎ B. To introduce the main topic.‎ C. To show the author’s opinion.‎ D. To persuade people to share inner beliefs.‎ ‎22.We can infer that the author believes inner beliefs ________.‎ A. shape us B. block love to come C. shouldn’t be hidden D. make us sad and painful ‎23.What does the underlined word “it” in the third paragraph refer to?‎ A. The love to come.‎ B. The negative belief.‎ C. The past painful experience.‎ D. The life of joy, contentment and personal success.‎ ‎24.Which of the following is the suggestion of the author?‎ A. Sharing our inner beliefs with others.‎ B. Ignoring blocked or frozen emotions.‎ C. Dealing with our negative inner beliefs wisely.‎ D. Having a deep understanding of our inner beliefs.‎ B A dam is a man-made structure built across a river. Most dams are built to control a river’s water flow, improve navigation and control flooding. However, some dams are built to produce hydro-electric power.‎ Hydro-electric power is produced as water passes through a dam, and into a river below. The more water that passes through a dam, the more energy is produced. Once a dam is built, a man-made lake is created behind the dam.‎ Electricity is produced by a kind of equipment called a turbine(水轮机). Turbines contain metal coils(线圈) surrounded by magnets(磁铁). When the magnets move round rapidly over the metal coils, electricity is produced. Turbines are located inside dams. The falling water makes the magnets go around the coils.‎ Dams provide clean energy, but they can also harm the environment. Species that use rivers to reproduce are often hurt by dams. In the Northwest of the US, the population ‎ of fishes has dropped from 16 million to 2.5 million since hydro-electric plants were built on the Columbia River. Dams all over the world have hurt some species.  ‎ ‎ The highest dam in the Unites States is located near Oroville‎, ‎California. The Oroville Dam towers 230 meters and is more than a mile wide. This dam was built in 1968, 22 years after the Hoover Dam. The Hoover Dam, on the Nevada-Arizona border controls the Colorado river. It is 221 meters high and has 2.6 million hectare-meters of water.‎ The highest dam in the world is the Nurek Dam on the Vakhsh River in Tadzikistan, a country in central Asia. This dam is 300 meters tall.‎ ‎25.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage?‎ A. Some dams are built for controlling a river’s water flow.‎ B. Hydro-electric power is usually produced through a dam.‎ C. Dams can offer energy and they are harmless to the environment.‎ D. Generally speaking, where there is a dam, there is a man-made lake.‎ ‎26.The third paragraph mainly tells us _____.‎ A. how hydro-electric power is produced B. What a turbine is and how it works C. how the magnets and the metal coils work D. how the falling water passes through a turbine ‎27.The dam which controls the Colorado river is ____.‎ A. the Oroville Dam B. the Hoover Dam C. the Nurek Dam D. the Vakhsh Dam C For every woman who feels like she's had to scale back her personal ambitions since becoming a mother, gold medal cyclist Kristin Armstrong has a message: Don't give up on your dreams.‎ She retired after winning gold in Beijing to start a family; son Lucas arrived in 2010, but then she decided to compete again in the London Olympics. She won a gold medal at last.‎ The decision to start training again wasn't easy. "I struggled with that a lot," she told a ‎ newspaper. “At the beginning I felt selfish, I felt like, ‘Well, I'm not supposed to be thinking of myself anymore. It's all supposed to be for my kid.’”‎ She faced physical challenges of getting back into competition shape after giving birth, as well. When she started racing in the spring of 2011, she was still breast-feeding; she would nurse her son, then race, then breast-feed again after the race. Her days revolved around Lucas and training.‎ ‎"I feel like I'm able to do what I love to do and still manage a family and have that balance," Armstrong said. "That you have a family or a child doesn't mean that you have to stop going after what you dream of individually.”‎ Armstrong makes balance look easy, whether it's on her bike or as an athlete-mom. But she points out that you can't have it all without making some sacrifices. For example, don't expect a neat home—her husband, Joe Savola, who she describes as her support system and her "protector", says he's had to give up on trying to keep everything orderly at home and just accept that their living room has become Lucas's playroom. For Armstrong, she's sacrificed time with friends who had kids around the same age—there just wasn't time.‎ Now, she says, "That sounds like fun to me." As she heads home to Boise‎, ‎Idaho, she's ready to do regular mom stuff.‎ ‎28.After Kristin Armstrong retired, she ___.‎ A. lived an easy life B. moved to a new house C. still had a great interest in cycling D. spent much time with her kid ‎29.It was difficult for Armstrong to make the decision to participate in the London Olympics because she_______ .‎ A. was too old to train racing B. had to give her family much consideration C. faced big physical challenges D. could not get support from her family ‎30.In most days of 2011, Armstrong could be described as ____.‎ A. a housewife and a new mom B. an athlete and a career woman C. a parent and a sportswoman ‎ D. a wife and a good mother ‎31.We can know from the passage that it ____ for Armstrong to keep a balance between her family and dream.‎ A. was quite easy B. made her feel tired C. surprised herself D. was a hard job D Jeri Solomon is a morning person but Jim, her husband of 11 years, is not. Early in their life, it caused a problem. “When we were planning our wedding, I wanted to have these big discussions at ‎8 a. m.,when I had been up for two hours and was fresh, but Jim would just be getting out of bed,” says the 46-year-old designer from Melrose‎, ‎Mass.‎ “We ended up getting into many arguments because I thought he had no interest, when really he was just still half-asleep.”‎ The couple learned to work around their differences over the years, but their situation isn’t uncommon, says Katherine Sharkey, professor at BrownUniversity. “More women tend to be larks, while men are like night owls(猫头鹰),” she says.‎ The question is:Why? The answer lies in each person’s body clock. “The body clock is about 24 hours, thanks to Earth’s 24-hour light-dark cycle,” Sharkey says. “But some people have a longer natural cycle, and some are shorter.” If yours is on the long side, you’re more likely to be a night owl. If it runs short, you’re probably an early riser. But your body clock can change over your lifetime. There’s a developmental piece-school-age children are generally early birds, while teenagers tend to be night owls, and then as they age, adults gradually turn back into morning people,” Sharkey says.‎ Besides the clear problems with being a night owl if you have fl day job, “night owls tend to be more low-spirited, and have a higher dependence on coffee,” Sharkey says. But the news isn’t all bad. A recent study in Belgium found that night owls can stay more focused as the day goes on, compared with early risers.‎ Morning people, however, also have advantages. “Larks generally sleep better, have more regular sleep, and have more flexible characters,” Sharkey says. They also tend to be happier and feel healthier than night owls, according to a recent study from the University‎ of ‎Toronto.‎ ‎32.Jeri Solomon and her husband ______.‎ A.tried to change each other’s sleeping habits B.often argued about small things C.could not understand each other D.got up at different times ‎33.The underlined word “larks” in Paragraph 2 refers to birds which ______.‎ A.are sleepy at noon B.stay awake all night C.search for food at night D.are active in the morning ‎34.Compared with morning people, night owls ______.‎ A.work more flexibly B.feel happy more easily C.sleep more soundly at night D.get more and more focused during the day ‎35.What is the purpose of the text?‎ A.To explain why we get up early or late.‎ B.To advise every one of us to get up early.‎ C.To tell us how to change our body clock.‎ D.To point out morning people’s advantages.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ You may have grown up living with sisters and brothers, or this may be your first time sharing your living space with someone else. Having a roommate surely has its challenges. 36. Follow these tips to make sure you and your roommate keep things ‎ pleasant and supportive throughout the year.‎ Be clear from the beginning.‎ Maybe you hate it when someone interrupts you when you are sleeping every morning. 37., Let your roommate know about your preferences. It’s not fair to expect him or her to pick up on them right away, and communicating what you need is one of the best ways to get rid of problems before they become problems.‎ Respect your roommate’s things.‎ This may seem simple, but it’s probably one of the biggest reasons why roommates experience conflicts. Don’t you think he’ll mind if you borrow his shoes for a quick soccer game for all you know, you just stepped over an uncrossable line.38.‎ Be open to change.‎ You should expect to learn and grow and change during your time at school.
