B [2020·湖北省武汉市高中毕业生调研]In American countryside, the message we hear is this: Go and get an education. Leave your small town and make something of yourself. Success and opportunity are found elsewhere. Leave. Go. After graduating from a high school in Helena, Arkansas, I did go. I went to Colby College in Maine. I had visited the school ahead of time, so I knew what I was getting myself into. I knew about the difference in weather. I understood the difference in social atmosphere. But I wanted to stretch myself and get out of my comfort zone. And you know what? I absolutely loved my time there. But one thing took me by surprise — the lack of countryside representation. Most of the other students at Colby were from big cities: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco... And when I had conversations with these students — in or outside of class — we almost always focused on topics facing large American cities. In my education classes, it was always “urban this” and “urban that”. It was like small town America didn't exist. And this urban interest doesn't just happen in college. I went to an education conference a couple of years ago, and a professor — someone who had been at the forefront of educational reform — was there to deliver a keynote. I was chosen to be part of a small group that got to meet with him. So there we were, five or six of us sitting in a room, and I asked him, “What are your thoughts on the state of education in the countryside?” And this man was speechless. I'll never forget that moment. It speaks to a larger truth. Towns like mine are forgotten. This trend of exporting talent and resources to our big cities — this mindset of leaving small towns and never coming back — I don't want to add to that movement. I want to reverse that movement. Now it's my turn to help people younger than me. And you know what? I'm a sixth grade teacher in Helena now. 4.What do people in American countryside think of the future of the youth at home? A.Secure. B.Fragile. C.Promising. D.Bright. 5.What did the author find in his college classroom? A.Students chatted freely. B.Countryside was ignored. C.He was looked down upon. D.Students concentrated on education. 6.How would the author feel about the professor's reaction? A.It's emotional. B.It's natural. C.It's positive. D.It's disappointing. 7.What is the author doing now? A.Teaching in a college. B.Fighting for the movement. C.Working with the professor. D.Devoting himself to his hometown. C [2020·贵阳市高三摸底考试]Many of us think, wrongly, that the moon doesn't change. For example, the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ruoxu once wrote that“Generations have come and passed away; From year to year the moons look alike, old and new.” However, a new study published in the journal Nature Geoscience shows that the moon is in fact slowly shrinking over time. For the study, a group of US scientists examined and analyzed thousands of photographs taken by the NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera They found that there were lots of faults (断层) on the surface of the moon. These faults were formed by recent movement on the moon. According to NASA, the moon is made up of pieces of rocks with a hot core. The moon continued to expand as it was born. But in this process, it released energy and cooled down. Then it began to shrink, in a way comparable to the shrinking of a grape into a raisin. Over the past several hundred million years, it has become 46 meters “skinnier”. But due to its hard and rocky layer, the moon's surface continues to push up. “Some of these quakes can be fairly strong, around five on the Richter scale (里氏震级),” said Thomas Watters, a senior scientist at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum in the US. But does that mean the moon is a dangerous place that human shouldn't try to explore and live on in the future? Maybe not, reported The Telegraph. “This isn't anything to worry about. The moon may be shrinking, but not by much. It's not going anywhere,” Watters comforted us. The new discovery proves that the idea that the moon is a dead, boring place is wrong. “We have been to the moon and we've done some great science, but there is still a lot we don't know. The moon is shrinking — we didn't really realize that until recently. It's a much more active and interesting place than we thought and we should explore that,” NASA scientist Nathan Williams said. 8.Which point of view about the moon may the writer agree to? A.It stays the same as before. B.It is becoming slightly smaller. C.It is getting older and older. D.It has passed away. 9.What can we learn about the moon from the third paragraph? A.It has become 46 meters fatter due to expanding. B.It has changed from a grape into a raisin in recent years. C.It quakes even at seven on the Richter scale. D.It has a hot core and releases energy during expanding. 10.Who thinks that we needn't worry about the moon? A.Zhang Ruoxu. B.Thomas Watters. C.Nathan Williams. D.The journalist. 11.What does Nathan Williams think of the moon? A.It is a dead and boring place. B.It has lots of faults on the surface. C.It is valuable to do more science. D.It isn't a place where we can live. D [2019·武汉市高三五月训练题]On September 10, 2018, Jack Ma, founder and chairman of Chinese ecommerce giant Alibaba, announced his successor (继任者) at the company. Surprisingly, in a country where 70 to 80 percent of private companies are still family run, Mr. Ma did not name a family member. Rather, one of the world's largest ecommerce companies will be led by Daniel Zhang, an 11year Alibaba old hand chosen only for his “professional talent”. The history of many countries can be marked by a trend away from dependence on family succession in business, or the belief that qualities of leadership flow through bloodlines. Ma is a true innovator (创新者) in many ways, most famous for building an innovative online shopping market worth more than the economies of most countries. But his legacy (遗产) may lie in showing how China as well as much of Asia can produce founders of successful organizations unwilling to pass the torch to relatives. “Alibaba was never about Jack Ma,” he stated in announcing his succession plan. Instead, the former schoolteacher who came from lowly origins is stepping back from daytoday operations because he has built a system that takes root in a company culture based on innovation, transparency, and responsibility. “For the last 10 years, we kept working on these ingredients,” he stated. The company's future will depend on developing a wealth of talent that drives innovation, he said. And in a society with a long tradition of cautious distrust toward those outside the family circle, Ma has built an “architecture of trust” with customers, who number over half a billion. Chinese now readily rely on Alibaba's online payment system, its ratings of products and services, and other trustbuilding systems or methods pioneered by the company. China's rapid growth now produces a new billionaire almost every day. Many of them, like Ma, have favored systems of management based on talent and honesty. As many countries have discovered as they progress, it is better to swim in a talent pool, not a gene pool. 12.What do we know about Daniel Zhang from the passage? A.He's a talented professor. B.He's an experienced manager. C.He's a successful founder. D.He's chairman of Alibaba. 13.Where does Ma's legacy lie in? A.Becoming a successful innovative founder. B.Casting doubt on traditional succession plan. C.Providing creative answers to succession problems. D.Representing trends towards nonfamilyrun companies. 14.What seems to be the recipe for the company's future success? A.Trustbuilding methods. B.The “architecture of trust”. C.A culture of talent development. D.The latest successful innovations. 15.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Prefer Qualities to Blood B.Train a Potential Successor C.Favor Genes over Talents D.Provide New Management [2020·河南省高考适应性测试]Pay More, and You Will Get Unexpected Results Give What You Can. It speaks to a larger truth. Towns like mine are forgotten.” 根据第二段中的“After graduating from a high school in Helena”可知,作者的家乡在海伦娜,再根据最后一段“Now it's my turn to help people younger than me. 根据尾段中Nathan Williams说的话“We have been to the moon and we've done some great science... we should explore that”可知,Nathan Williams认为月球有许多我们不了解的东西,值得我们去探索,据此可推知,他认为研究月球是有价值的,故C项正确。 根据第一段中的“one of the world's largest ecommerce companies will be led by Daniel Zhang, an 11year Alibaba old hand chosen only for his ‘professional talent’”可知,张勇有着专业才能,且经验丰富。 根据第二段中的“But his legacy (遗产) may lie in showing how China as well as much of Asia can produce founders of successful organizations unwilling to pass the torch to relatives”可知,马云的遗产展现在对非家族式经营的趋向,故选D。 根据第四段中的“The company's future will depend on developing a wealth of talent that drives innovation”可知,公司未来的成功在于人才文化体系的发展。 故选A。 Surprisingly, in a country where 70 to 80 percent of private companies are still family run, Mr. Ma did not name a family member.(Para. 1.A 根据设空处前一句“The thing about giving a little is that when everyone gives a little, suddenly it turns into a lot.” 2.B 根据下文中的“It can be heartstopping and wonderful to make eye contact with someone smiling.” 3.F 根据本段的标题“Use ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.” 4.D 根据本段标题“Give when you get.” 5.C 根据该段的内容,尤其是第三至五句“Get on the line. You remember that your phone can make calls, right? Get in touch with those people that are dying to hear from you (because someone definitely is).” First, I got up_late, missing breakfast. Then, dashe to the bus stop, I slipped and fell on the ground. To make matters ba, the bus didn't stop for me because it was overcrowded. I had no choice but to take a taxi. Not until the taxi got to my school I realize I hav left my wallet at home. After I did lots of explai and apologizing, the driver let me go. In end, I reached the school gate. To my astonishment, I suddenly realized it was a school holiday. ①删除this morning前的on 表时间的名词前带有last, next, this, these, that等指示性限定修饰语且其前没有冠词时,其前要省略介词。 ⑦my school后加did not until置于句首时,句子主干用部分倒装结构。 ⑩a改为the in the end是固定短语,意为“最后”。 Dear John, Knowing that you are interested in science fiction, I'd like to invite you to see a film this weekend.
