The members of school clubs build booths(摊位) and sell lemonade, apples and sandwiches. Some clubs help to welcome visitors. During the day people like to look for teachers that they remember from long ago. Often they see old friends and they talk together about those happy years in school. Everyone soon comes to watch the football game. When the game is half over, the band comes onto the field and plays school songs. Another important moment is when the Homecoming Queen or King appears. All the students vote a most popular student Homecoming Queen or King. It is a great honor to be chosen. And it’s something that will happen along a path crossing the entire United States. There’s a lot of evidence for how animals and even plants respond to a solar eclipse, says Elise Ricard. “But there’s not a lot of hard science,” she adds. Ricard is the spokesperson for an eclipse project called Life Responds. She notes that tales alone aren’t enough for scientists to conclude anything certain about how wildlife typically behaves during a solar eclipse. The earliest record comes from 1544. That’s when an unknown observer wrote that “birds stopped singing” during a total eclipse. In the past century or so, however, scientists have tried to approach the question in a maore systematic way. Eclipse studies in the 1960’s and 1970’s reported small light-sensitive zooplankton(浮游动物) swimming toward the surface. That is similar to what the tiny animals do at night. And during an annular eclipse in 1984, captive chimpanzees kept climbing a structure. Then they turned their faces to the blocked sun. The sun’s brief absence during a 1991 eclipse led spiders to take down their webs. As interesting as these tales are, they also are quite limited. That could change with the 2017 eclipse. Many people now have Smartphones. This means that crowd-sourced research can offer more and better-coordinated observations than ever before. This year, the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco calls for nonprofessional scientists to collect data. Observers will use the academy’s iNaturalist app. A team there hopes to get more data during any previous eclipse. 28. What does Ricard think of the tales of animals’ response to a solar eclipse? A. Unreal. B. Unreasonable. C. They lack interest. D. They lack hard science. 29. What is the third paragraph mainly about? A. The history of the solar eclipse.[] B. The scientific research of the solar eclipse. C. Animal’s behaviors during the past solar eclipses. D. Scientists’ efforts made to record solar eclipses. 30. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs? A. People will see birds stop singing during the 2017 eclipse. B. The academy’s app can be available to every citizen in America C. There will be more interesting tales to be spread to the whole country. D. Many nonprofessional scientists will observe animals in the coming eclipse. 31. What may be the best title for the title? A. The tales of solar eclipses B. The research of solar eclipses C. What do animals do during a solar eclipse? D. What do scientists do during a solar eclipse? D A jobless man applied for the position of “office boy” at Microsoft.
