There is no more 34 measure for comparison than who you were yesterday, last week or last decade, when you were at your 35 . ‎ ‎  Nothing useful ever comes from comparison to others. 36 you see yourself as better than someone and you get 37 , or you see someone else as better than you and you feel like all your hard work is for 38 . It is a fool's game. Not one of us is 39 alike. The only direct and honest comparison is 40 yourself. Everything else is apples to oranges. ‎ ‎  My opinion is that you are only 41 to compare yourself to someone else if their life 42 is the same as your own. Good luck finding that match. Yep, it really is that good. ‎ ‎ Set in a world populated by robots, Ewan McGregor plays Rodney Copperbottom, a young robot who leaves his small-town home to pursue his dream of becoming an inventor. ‎ ‎ But after arriving in Robot‎ ‎City, his hopes of getting a job at Bigweld Industries are destroyed when he learns the firm has been taken over by the evil Ratchet (Greg Kinnear). ‎ ‎ Egged on by his controlling mum, Madame Gasket(Jim Broadbent), Ratchet plans to reduce half on Robot‎ ‎City’s citizens to scrap metal by refusing to sell the spare Pans they need to survive. ‎ ‎ Instead, he wants to make a fortune selling expensive upgrades that few can afford. As he says, “Why be you when you can be new?”‎ ‎ Aided by a few misfit robots known as the Rustles-including Robin Williams as the cowardly(胆小的) Fender (“I’m made of a metal called Afraidium”)-Rodney must track down the firm’s founder, Bigweld(Mel Brooks), and convince him to save the city from Ratchet’s plans. ‎ ‎ The first thing that’ll strike you about the movie is the thought that’s gone into creating Robot‎ ‎City. It’s a wondrous world full of mechanical marvels including wind-up cars and walking streetlamps. ‎ ‎ Also terrific are the special effects. This might be animated movie but at times you’ll catch yourself thinking it’s really a live-action film. ‎ Of course, there have been plenty of animated movies that looked the part but were let down by a weak storyline(see Shark Tale, for example). ‎ But Robots grips(扣人心弦)right from the start thanks to a heart-warming and thoroughly engaging plot that never bores. ‎ My only complaints are with Williams who, as usual, has a one-in-10 success rate with his jokes. Also a letdown is a romantic subplot between Rodney and a shapely robot called Cappy(Halle‎ ‎Berry)that doesn’t go anywhere. ‎ Complains aside, this is a mechanical marvel that’ll have you bolted firmly to your seat. ‎ BEST QUOTE(引述):Fender:“Even though you had a discouraging day, just remember there’s another one coming tomorrow. ‎ BEST BIT:Check out those amazing images. ‎ WORST BIT:Robin Williams’ character does an unfunny Britney Spears dance routine. ‎ IF YOU LIKED…Ice Age, The Incredibles, Toy Story…YOU’LL LIKE THIS. ‎ ‎51. This piece of writing is a _____. ‎ A. commercial advertisement B. 1iterary essay ‎ C. movie poster D. film review ‎ ‎52. What is Shark Tale an example of?‎ A. A great cast. B. Special effects. C. A poor plot. D. Clumsy animation. ‎ B The malls were filled with people seeking gifts for their loved ones. Some of the malls remained open around the clock, partly to satisfy our needs to buy gifts. ‎ Behind the materialistic aspect of shopping for gifts lies the idea of caring, being attentive to the desires of special people in our lives. However, to use a well-worn play on words: it is our presence, not our presents, that truly counts. Many of us, unfortunately, can be so inattentive, even in the presence of our loved ones, that we might as well not be there at all. ‎ Attention is one of the greatest gifts we can give each other. Companies around the globe spend billions every year on advertising to catch our attention for just a short moment at a time. Whole industries — media, entertainment, education — rely on the precious gift of our attention for their continued existence. A baby lacking attention for a long time is likely to be psychologically unhealthy. ‎ In earlier times, both diet and attention could be left unregulated (没人管的) without major cause for concern. There were natural checks and balances: limited availability of food meant few got fat, for example. Similarly, in bygone times we might have spent a few hours communicating with the village storyteller; today, watching an entire TV series, while speaking to nobody, is common. In traditional societies, with smaller population, everyone would get a fair deal of attention. On many issues we might go to see Grandma or Grandpa; now we have Google and Wikipedia. ‎ ‎“She just wants attention.” people tend to think little of those doing things simply for attention. But the truth is that human beings need attention, and giving attention to each other is, to a large extent, what human civilization is based upon. This perhaps explains the runaway success of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. While we use such sites for “micro Hogging”, “idea voicing” and “status updates” — the reality is that we are often doing no more or less than fulfilling our basic human drive for attention exchange. ‎ I friend you, you friend me, I retweet you, you retweet me. The charming ease with which we can now get and give attention is why many people appear overly attached to their smartphones. It is also a vicious (恶性的) circle. As ever more people are busy exchanging attention online, there is increasingly less attention to be paid in the real world, which forces more people to seek their attention exchange online, or else risk attention-starvation. ‎ The very nature of attention exchange is being rapidly transformed, and there is a danger that some of us will develop unhealthy practices. Just as eating red meat every day is a bad idea, so it is with too much attention exchange. The biological consequences of our technological advancement in food production are highly visible; heart disease, diabetes and obesity. The consequences of our transformed attention exchanges will be psychological and social, and so may take longer to identify, but they will be equally damaging. ‎ Face-to-face attention is becoming rarer, and therefore more valuable. In a sense it is priceless. And it is a gift that can be given all-year-round. ‎ ‎53. In the first two paragraphs the author __________. ‎ A. offers advice to attention givers B. puts forward his point of view ‎ C. states the necessity of presents D. analyses the present problems ‎54. What can we infer from Paragraphs 6-7? ‎ A. Transformed attention exchanges do harm to society.‎ B. The nature of attention exchange is rarely changed. ‎ C. Technological advancement contributes to all diseases. ‎ D. More people will risk attention-starvation in future. ‎ ‎55. The writer’s purpose for writing the passage is to __________. ‎ A. recommend some social networking sites ‎ B. analyze the necessity of attention giving ‎ C. give practical tips on attention exchange ‎ D. advocate more focus on real life attention C The man from the telephone department got off the bus, and made his way to the tea stall, wiping the sweat off his head, face, then slipping his handkerchief under his shirt to wipe his neck and back. It was a year ago that the phone line had been installed, six months later men from the public works department had come to put up the phone booth — a neat box-like structure, with a glass window, and wooden ledges, yellow in color. And days after that, a painter had taken an entire day to color in broad, black brushstrokes, the words: STD Booth, local and STD allowed.‎ No one could tell that the last word had been misspelled. Besides, he had taken the entire day. After he had a cup of tea, he had left, waving cheerfully. And now months later, someone else was here again.‎ Everyone watched the man as he sat on the bench. No one said a word, and soon the sound of him slurping his tea filled the hot afternoon. A few leaves fell, heavy in the heat, and sometimes a car passed, on its way to the main city farther away.‎ When the man had finished, he made to pay but the tea shop owner who sat behind his steaming kettle and the washed upturned cups, waved him away.‎ ‎“You are our distinguished guest here.”‎ So the man took his handkerchief out again and wiped his face.‎ They crowded around him as he shut himself up in the phone booth. When the children pressed their nose against the glass, he shooed them away, as he took out a shiny black instrument and placed it on the narrow shelf. A sigh of satisfaction passed through everyone that soon changed to an excited yell as they saw him dial a number, pressing a finger into the ringed dialer of the phone and letting it go all the way in a half-circle. A while later, they hear him say into the mouthpiece, “Hello.”‎ ‎“Hello,” the children around the booth took up the cry, the teashop owner broke into a smile and the men waiting for a bus smiled and said hello to each other. The sadhu(印度的僧人) who sat under the banyan tree nodded wisely. As the sound carried, more hellos were heard. The women winnowing grain giggled as they tried the word tentatively, the shepherds feeding their flocks called out to their sheep, laughing as they used the word.‎ ‎“It‘s a big occasion,” said the headman, in an awed(敬畏的)voice.‎ ‎“It is,” agreed those around him. The telephone man emerged and handed over a small chit of paper to the headman. “This is the telephone number”.‎ The headman looked at it reverently as if it were a mantra(符咒). The others around him read out the numbers slowly, digit-by-digit.‎ The telephone man was now too tired to notice the cheering around him. He knew he had to wait long before the bus to take him back arrived. As he sipped his second cup of tea, he remembered something else.‎ ‎“Oh, you can’t start using the phone now. The minister will come next month and inaugurate (举行仪式)it.”‎ No one said a word. No one was surprised. They had waited so long; a month more did not really matter.‎ ‎56. A misspelled word on the booth __________.‎ A. was a joke shared by the painter and the local people ‎ B. made the painter miss his tea break C. kept everyone occupied for an entire day D. went unnoticed by the local people ‎57. When the man from the telephone department arrived, __________.‎ A. he was greeted like a regular customer ‎ B. the hot afternoon was filled with quiet expectation ‎ C. there was a sudden rush of activity in the village ‎ D. he learned about the village while having a nice drink ‎58. What can be inferred from the story?‎ A. It was a distant village free from modern technology.‎ B. Only the minister had the authority to make the first call.‎ C. The man from the telephone department had a mentally demanding job.‎ D. Few of the local children went to school for education.‎ ‎59. The examples of the children, the teashop owner, the men waiting for the bus, the women and the shepherds are given to illustrate __________.‎ A. the ignorance of the local people ‎ B. the local people’s enthusiasm for English learning C. the local people’s curiosity for the new thing ‎ D. the popularity of the man from the telephone department ‎60. What words can be used to best describe the local people?‎ A. Innocent and creative. B. Curious and respectful.‎ C. Patient and competent. D. Independent and admirable 第II卷 (非选择题,共50分)‎ 第四部分: 任务型阅读 (本部分共 10小 题; 每小题 1 分, 满分 10 分)‎ 请阅读下面短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一个最恰当的单词。‎ 注意: 请将答案写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。 每个空格只填一个单词。‎ It doesn’t matter if books are delivered in print or by smart phone; the main thing is to get lost in reading them. Reading books is vital for human development. ‎ Why should we read a book? All children say this occasionally. Many of the 12 million adults in Britain with reading difficulties repeat it to themselves daily. In a world of accelerating technology, increasing time poverty and decreasing attention, should they invest precious time sinking into a good book? ‎ The discovery that our brains are physically changed by the experience of reading is something many of us will understand instinctively (本能地), as we think back to the way an extraordinary book had a transformative effect on the way we viewed the world. This transformation only takes place when we lose ourselves in a book, abandoning the emotional and mental chatter of the real world. That’s why studies have found this kind of deep reading makes us more sensitive to the inner lives of others. ‎ Rationally, we know that reading is the foundation stone of all education, and therefore an essential basis of the knowledge economy. So reading is – or should be – an aspect of public policy. But perhaps even more significant is its emotional role as the starting point for individual voyages of personal development and pleasure. Books can open up emotional, imaginative and historical landscapes that equal and extend the corridors (走廊) of the web. They can help create and strengthen our sense of self. If reading were to decline significantly, it would change the very nature of our species. If we, in the future, are no longer wired for self-reflection and creative thought, we will die out. ‎ However, technology throws up as many solutions as it does challenges: for every door it closes, another opens. So the ability, offered by devices like e-readers, smart phones and tablets, to carry an entire library in your hand is an amazing opportunity. Publishers need to use every new piece of technology to embed (使融入) long-form reading within our culture. We should concentrate on the message, not worry about the medium. We must also get better at using the ability of the Internet to inform readers, and potential readers, about all the extraordinary new books that are published every year, and to renew their acquaintance with the best of rich literary ‎ tradition. ‎ The research shows that if we stop reading, we will be different people: less complicated, less considerate, less interesting. There can hardly be a better reason for fighting to protect the future of the book.‎ Reading Introduction Reading books plays a vital role in human development, whether they are 61 or electronic.‎ Against reading People are at a 62 as to the meaning of reading.‎ Several factors affect reading including reading difficulty, accelerating technology, 63 of time and poor concentration.‎ Deep reading enables us to better 65 others’ inner lives.‎ A good book will transform our world 64 when we get lost in it.‎ All education is 66 on reading, which will bring economic benefits indirectly.‎ Books can advance personal development and bring us emotional ‎ 67 as well. ‎ Reading‎ can promote the development of human species through self-reflection and creative thought.‎ It 68 readers to more books, so we should make better ‎ ‎ 69 of the Internet to serve readers.‎ Reading 70 us a lot so it is essential to protect the future of the book. ‎ For reading Role of technology in reading Conclusion 第五部分:单词拼写(本部分共10小题,每小题1分,满分10分)‎ 请阅读下列各小题,并根据上下文语境和所给首字母或汉语提示,写出下列各句空格中的单词,请将答案的完整形式写在答题卡上相应题号的横线上。每空只填一个单词。‎ ‎71. It is quite impolite and irresponsible for it not only influences their own study but also distracts other students’ attention. Once the teacher is aware of that, it will certainly ruin his mood, interrupting the whole class. Worse still, once students are addicted to playing mobile phones, they tend to cheat in the exams by surfing the Internet.‎ Measures should be taken to deal with this situation. On the one hand, schools can provide more public phones on campus for emergency. On the other hand, parents should be strict with their children. Do not give whatever they want and cooperate with the teachers if their children are caught using phones in an improper way. ‎ After all, we should not be slaves to mobile phones.(158字)‎ 听力原材料:‎ Text 1‎ M: I don’t understand why he’s being such a strict teacher.‎ W: He just wants you to work hard.‎ M: I know. But I am afraid we don’t have another pink one.‎ M: Oh? What will I do then?‎ W: Would you like to choose a different color? We do have this camera in black and orange.‎ M: My wife doesn’t like either of those colors.‎ W: If you want, we can order another camera just like this one. There wouldn’t be any extra charge for it.‎ M: That sounds fine. Would you please go ahead and do that?‎ W: We’d be very happy to but it’ll take at least a week. Maybe ten days. We’ll call you when it comes in.‎ M: Thank you very much.‎ W: You are welcome.‎ Text 8‎ W: English Language Center. May I help you?‎ M: Yes. I’m calling to find out more information about your program. For example, what kind of courses do you offer?‎ W: Well, first of all, the purpose of our program is to provide language learning opportunities to this area’s community, whether a student’s goal is to master basic functional language skills, let’s say, for his or her job, or to study to enter a US college or university.‎ M: Great. What are your application deadlines for the next term?‎ W: Well, we ask applicants to apply no later than two months before the term begins. This gives us time to process the application.‎ M: Alright. What is the tuition for a full-time student?‎ W: It’s $2030.‎ M: And how does one apply?‎ W: Well, we can send you an application and you can mail it back to us, or you can fill out our application that’s online at our web site.‎ M: Great. Thank you for your help.‎ Text 9‎ Ladies and Gentleman, it is an honor to be the first to welcome you to the opening night of our new university museum. The museum will feature a wide variety of art that has all been created by our very own students. First, I would like to thank all of you parents for your support. You’ve raised such great children, and we’re honored to have them at our school. It has been an absolute pleasure helping them realize their dreams. I’d also like to thank all the great professors in our wonderful art department, of course. None of this would have been possible without all of your hard work. You are truly inspiring to all of us. But our students are the ones I’d like to thank most of all. You went above and beyond, working tirelessly in order to share your talent through the beautiful works we are about to see. I am very excited to see all of your paintings, drawings, sketches, and sculptures. But before we go in, let’s have another round of applause for our incredible students!‎
