(建议用时:30分钟) 阅读理解 A (2019·福州八县/市一中联考)If a city wants to hold the Olympics, it must submit a proposal to the IOC. After all proposals have been submitted, the IOC votes. If no city with the fewest votes is eliminated(淘汰),the voting continues, until a majority winner is determined. Typically, the Games are awarded several years in advance, allowing the winning city time to prepare for the Games. In selecting the site of the Olympic Games, the IOC considers a number of factors, and chiefly among them is which organizing committee seems most likely to stage the Games effectively. The IOC also considers which parts of the world have not yet hosted the Games. For instance, Tokyo, the host of the 1964 Summer Games, and Beijing, that of the 2008 Games, were chosen in part to popularize the Olympic movement in Asia. Because of the growing importance of television worldwide, the IOC in recent years has also taken into account the host city’s time zone. Whenever the Games take place in the U.S.A or Canada, for example, American television networks are willing to pay specially higher amounts for television rights because they can broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hours. Once the Games have been awarded, it is the duty of the local organizing committee—not the IOC or the NOC of the host city’s country to provide them with money. This is often done with a part of the Olympic television revenues(收入),and corporate sponsorships, tickets sales, and other smaller revenue sources. In many cases there is also direct government support. Although many cities have gained amounts of money by hosting the Games, the Olympics can be financially risky. If the financial gains from the Games are less than expected, the city will be left with large debts. 1. will be determined to host the Olympic Games by the IOC. A.A city that submits a proposal B.A majority winner in voting C.A city that has perfect time zone D.One that hasn’t hosted the Games B 2.If the Games take place in Canada, American television networks . A.will not pay for the Canadian television networks B.will be forbidden to broadcast live sporting events C.can’t broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hours D.are willing to pay much higher amounts for television rights D 根据第二段最后一句“Whenever the Games take place in the U.S.A or Canada... because they can broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hours.” 3.According to the last paragraph, which of the following statement is TRUE? A.The host city must be left with large debts. B.There is no financial risk in hosting the Olympic Games. C.The host city may gain a lot of money. D.It is impossible that the host city couldn’t make money. 4.Which of the following can be the best title of this passage? A.Winner or Loser B.Applying for Host for the Olympics C.How to Host the Olympic Games D.The Olympic Games B B (2019·襄阳、荆州、荆门、宜昌四地七校联考)Have you ever been given something you don’t like or that doesn’t fit, but you don’t want to hurt the feelings of the person who thinks about you? You’re not alone. Everyone has received an unwanted gift at least once in his or her life. That doesn’t mean the item is bad or useless. It simply means that it doesn’t work for you. If you find yourself with something nice but that doesn’t fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it. Before you do that, make sure you understand the manners of this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent. There are specific things you should do to an item. Failure to do any of them may create an awkward situation. You never have to lie about what you are doing, but you don’t want to be in the position of having to explain anything. For example, remove the original wrapping paper and rewrap it in your own way;make sure the box is in good condition so the item doesn’t appear used;check the item and make sure there are no cards or names on the packaging;inspect the item and make sure it is in excellent condition. When you get ready for regifting, consider having a white elephant gift exchange for your next celebration. This removes all the embarrassment of being caught regifting because that’s the whole purpose of the event. In order to prevent hurting feelings, provide everyone with a guest list and ask them not to bring anything given by the people on that list. 5.Why does the author begin the passage with a question? A.To share a hot phenomenon. B.To introduce the following part. C.To ask for readers’ answers. D.To point out a common opinion. 第一段点出了文章主旨,首句采用设问句是为了引出全文的话题 “Everyone has received an unwanted gift...It simply means that it doesn’t work for you.”,从而引出下文,所以选B。 6.What most contributes to the growing regifting? A.People’s lack of money. B.People’s dislike of the gifts. C.People’s reduced desire for gifts. D.People’s understanding of its manners. 根据第二段中的“this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent”可知,转送礼物变得越来越常见是因为人们发现在很大程度上很难实现收支平衡,故选项A “人们缺钱” 正确。 7.What’s mainly talked about in Paragraph 3? A.What to do before regifting. B.How to make use of unwanted gifts. C.What kind of gifts to be regifted. D.Why regifting can cause embarrassment. A。 8.What does the underlined phrase in the last paragraph mean? A.Suitable but valueless. B.Expensive and useful. C.Packaged and invaluable. D.Nice but unsuitable. 根据第二段首句“If you find yourself with something nice but that doesn’t fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it.” 完形填空 (2019·成都第二次诊断性检测)Alex Yawor brings fallen heroes back to life by painting their final portraits.
