Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name—phubbers. Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities(身份) bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world. Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “The neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report. But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported. It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight. 21.For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragragh2? A. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing(低头族). B. To advertise the cartoon made by students. C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers. D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients. 22.Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have? A. His social skills could be affected. B. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed. C. He will cause the destruction of the world. D. He might get separated from his friends and family. 23.Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing? A. Supportive. B. Opposed. C. Optimistic. D. Objective. 24.What may the passage talk about next? A. Advice on how to use a cell phone. B. People addicted to phubbing. C. Consequences of phubbing. D. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing. In four days it destroyed more than three-quarters of the old city, where most of the houses were wooden and close together. One hundred thousand people became homeless, but only a few lost their lives. The fire started on Sunday morning in the house of the King's baker(面包师)in Pudding Lane. The baker, with his wife and family, was able to get out through a window in the roof. A strong wind blew the fire from the bakery(面包房)into a small hotel next door. Then it spread quickly into Thames Street. That was the beginning. By eight o'clock three hundred houses were on fire. On Monday nearly a kilometer of the city was burning along the River Thames. Tuesday was the worst day. The fire destroyed many well-known buildings, old St Paul's and the Guildhall among them. Samuel Pepys, the famous writer, wrote about the fire. People threw their things into the river. Many poor people stayed in their houses until the last moment. Birds fell out of the air because of the heat. The fire stopped only when the King finally ordered people to destroy hundreds of buildings in the path of the fire. With nothing left to burn, the fire became weak and finally died out. After the fire, Christopher Wren, the architect(建筑师), wanted a city with wider streets and fine new houses of stone. In fact, the streets are still narrow; but he did build more than fifty churches, among them new St Paul's. The fire caused great pain and loss, but after it London was a better place: a city for the future and not just of the past. 28. The fire began in __________ A. a hotel B. the palace C. Pudding Lane D. Thames Street 29. It seems that the writer of the text was most sorry for the fact that____________. A. some people lost their lives B. the birds in the sky were killed by the fire C. many famous buildings were destroyed D. the King's bakery was burned down 30.Why did the writer cite(引用) Samuel Pepys? A. Because Pepys was among those putting out the fire. B. Because Pepys also wrote about the fire. C. To show that poor people suffered most. D. To give the reader a clearer picture of the fire. 31. Which of the following were reasons for the rapid spread of the big fire? (a)There was a strong wind. (b)The streets were very narrow. (c)Many houses were made of wood. (d)There was not enough water in the city. (e)People did not discover the fire earlier. A.(a),(c)and(d) B.(a),(b)and(c) C.(a),(b),(c)and(d) D.(a),(b),(c)(d)and(e) D Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself. Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself. Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky. Sure we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics. but sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge. it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself. Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think. Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about us. Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be. Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world. The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day. Don’t allow doubts to occur in it. It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself. Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task. If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true. The best way to get rid of a negative self-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities. Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image. When you can pat(拍) yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way. Good luck! 32. You need to build a positive self-image when you _________. A. dare to challenge yourself B. feel it hard to change yourself C. are unconfident about yourself D. have a high opinion of yourself 33. According to the passage, our self-images _________. A. have positive effects B. are probably untrue C. are often changeable D. have different functions 34. How should you change your self-image according to the passage? A. To keep a different image of others. B. To make your life successful. C. To understand your own world. D. To change the way you think. 35. The passage is mainly about how to . A. prepare for your success. B. face challenges in your life. C. build a positive self-image. D. develop your good qualities. 第二节:(共 5 小题:每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填 入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Have a Successful Teenage Life Everyone wants to succeed in their life, don’t they? Text 10 When I was in college, I spent a term studying in London. Even though we speak the same language, English people and Americans are very different. I guess that Americans have a bad name. People think that we're loud and that we speak our minds too much. So I tried to listen a bit more and not be so self-centered. I love the lifestyle there. Going out for afternoon tea was fun, and I always did that with my friends. And I really loved the old buildings. We don't have anything that old in the United States, so it was pretty amazing! By the way, I also went to Australia once. The buildings there weren't so attractive either. The British also have a different sense of humor. Their comedy shows on TV are really funny. I'd have to say my experience was a positive one. In fact, I'm saving up money so I can go back there again.查看更多
