Boomerang Kids can be a mixed blessing for parents, both emotionally and financially. Especially during hard economic times, adult children head for home. According to a survey, about 40 percent of 2017 graduates still live with their parents. Moreover, 42 percent of the 2015 graduates surveyed said they are still living at home. The reasons are many, the first being economics. While the financial pressure has touched Americans of all ages, it has been particularly hard for young adults. This has sent many kids back home. Plus, there is the matter of debt, especially college loans. For many recent graduates, it makes smart economic sense to move back in with their parents where life is comfortable and rent is either low or nonexistent. Then, of course, some return for personal reasons, such as recovering from a divorce or an illness. Parents are often glad to help out, both emotionally and financially. As a result, the arrangement often works to everyone’s satisfaction. However, there are risks, especially for the parents. These include not only family tension and misunderstandings, but also money. The return to the family can become a financial burden that can affect the parents’ plans and their financial future, especially their retirement, as they try to do too much for their children. 21. Boomerang Kids are those who _______ . A. like to show off their independence B. have problem with their marriage C. graduate from college in advance D. return to live with parents after graduation 22. The underlined words in Paragraph 1 mean something that ______. A. has advantages and disadvantages B. is very useful and beneficial C. will have a good result D. worries people a lot 23. What can we learn from the passage? A. It is a tough choice for young adults to move back home. B. Parents may have to deal with extra financial burden. C. Children face fewer financial problems than ever. D. Most graduates choose to live with their parents. B Certainly, a well-rounded education is the foundation of our growth. I am grateful to the many incredible(难以置信的) teachers who have inspired me to do greater things, and have fired my enthusiasm for lifelong learning! I have also been honored to have the most amazing teachers in all of my children’s lives. These are extraordinary people who not only teach our children, but love them, challenge them, and provide an environment where a child learns how to learn. However, sometimes I wonder if the outline of our educational plan is lacking something. I watched the movie Easy A with my older daughter. The main character’s parents were loving, supportive, and built great confidence in their daughter and developed her ability to handle her own problems. Maybe we might want to spend time showing them how real life works — the credit card isn’t free money — you will have to pay it back at sometime. Oh, and get this — they charge you for borrowing that money. Perhaps, we should spend some time on interpersonal relationships. I worry that our kids do not know how to relate to one another. Choosing a career is a daunting task. My daughter is in her second year in college and has changed her major twice. It’s not that she didn’t know what she wanted to do. What she “wanted to do” and the degree she chose did not match. I have learned many college students do not know what they want to do because they haven’t seen what it looks like in the real world. Being a journalist in the real world looks very different from writing stories. Maybe if we spent some time letting them experience real life — maybe two or three courses in areas of interest in high schools that give them a “feel” for what that particular field would look like, they might be better prepared. I do not know the solution, but it seems that it should at least be a topic of discussion 24. Why does the author mention the movie Easy A? A. To share with the readers his feeling about the movie. B. To show the movie was popular. C. To prove the importance of the movie. D. To lead to the topic he is going to talk about. 25. The underlined word “daunting” in Paragraph 5 probably means “______”. A. specific B. regular C. discouraging D. temporary 26. The author believes that ______. A. students need to focus on the skills in learning B. parents should agree with school in education C. his daughter is smart enough to make her own choice D. courses in areas of interest in high schools will benefit students 27. What is mainly discussed in the passage? A. Schools should prepare students for the real life. B. Students should spend more time discussing practical problems. C. What students learn in school should be practiced in life. D. Life experience is of greater importance than school education C From a child I was fond of reading, and all the little money that came into my hands was ever laid out in books. Pleased with the Pilgrim’s Progress, my first collection was of John Bunyan’s works, in separate little volumes. I afterward sold them to enable me to buy R. Burton’s Historical Collections; they were small businessmen’s books and cheap, 40 or 50 in all. My father’s little library mainly contains books in religion, most of which I read, and have since often regretted that, at a time when I had such a thirst for knowledge, more proper books had not fallen in my way, since I realized that I should not be a clergyman (牧师). Plutarch’s Lives there was in which I read abundantly, and I still think that time spent to great advantage. There was also a book of Defoe’s, called an Essay on Projects, and another of Dr. Mather’s, called Essays to Do God, which perhaps gave me a turn of thinking that had an influence on some of the significant future events of my life. This bookish preference eventually determined my father to make me a printer, though he had already one son (James) of that occupation. In 1717 my brother James returned from England with a press and letters to set up his business in Boston. I liked it much better than that of my father, but still had a thirst for the sea. To prevent the concerned effects of such a desire, my father was impatient to have me united to my brother. I stood out some time, but at last was persuaded, and signed the contract when I was yet but 12 years old. I was to serve as an apprentice(学徒) till I was 21 years of age, only I was to be allowed journeyman’s salaries during the last year. In a little time I made great progress in the business, and became a useful hand to my brother. I now had access to better books. An acquaintance with (结识) the apprentices of booksellers enabled me sometimes to borrow a small one, which I was careful to return soon and clean. Often I sat up in my room reading the greatest part of the night, when the book was borrowed in the evening and to be returned early in the morning, in case it should be missed or wanted.... --- From Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin 28. Which of the following does NOT contribute to the author’s change of thought? A. Pilgrim’s Progress B. Plutarch’s Lives C. An Essay on Projects D. Essays to Do God 29. What was the reason that his father made him a printer? A. His father thought he had a gift for painting. B. He liked the printing business better than any other things. C. His brothers, as a printer, promised to take good care of him. D. His father worried that his longing for sea might affect his future. 30. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean? A. My desire for books was completely satisfied. B. I could afford the books that I really preferred. C. My spare time was mostly occupied with reading. D. I could read more books which I was interested in. 第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 What is the difference between happy people and unhappy people? 31 Read the following list of things that HAPPY people do differently from UNHAPPY people and you will know. Well, I can tell you for sure that those people who are really happy, FEAR less and LOVE a lot more. They see each moment, each challenge, each person as an opportunity to discover more about themselves and the world around them. 32 Happy people understand that you can’t really change a situation by resisting it. But they can feel better by understanding that there might be a reason for its existence. 33 But rather, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better? They always seem to be pleasant and hopeful no matter what happens to them. They do the things they do because of the meaning it brings into their lives and because they get a sense of purpose by doing so. 34 They care more about living a life full of meaning rather than, what in our modern society we would call, living a successful life. The fact here is that most of the time they get both, success and meaning, just because they choose to focus on doing the things they love the most. 35 They make sure that their actions bring meaning and happiness in the lives of many. They look for ways to give and to share the best of themselves with the world and to make other people happy. A. They have an ideal living and a balanced life. B. What are the things that these people do differently? C. They are kind to themselves and others and they understand the power of love. D. The things happy people do are not for themselves, but for the good of others. E. They are ready to embrace whatever lies in front of them with courage and love. F. They understand that “Doing what you love is the most important for living a full life”. G. When something unpleasant happens to them, they don’t try to fight it, knowing that this will make the situation even worse. It was a day in late June, gray and depressing, with clouds hanging low. Mary and her classmates were chatting noisily with excitement as their school bus entered the zoo parking lot. Today, Mary’s class was going on a field trip to the zoo to learn more about the animals and their natural habitats. “Before you leave the bus, please make sure you have your partner!” Mrs. Brown announced. To make sure no one got lost in the zoo, each student had a companion. Mary’s companion was named John. John loves animals and was also excited to go to the zoo. But sometimes, John does not follow the rules and gets in trouble. Mary hoped that today, John would follow the rules so they would not get in trouble. While the rest of the students got off the bus, Mary and John quickly ran off to explore. They found the exhibits for many different kinds of animals and learned a lot about their natural habitats. They saw the elephants playing and they saw giraffes eating. They saw the polar bears sleeping and the monkeys leaping. Mary asked John: “John, what is your favorite animal?” “I think I like chimpanzees best. They have a lot of energy, just like me! What animal do you like, Mary?” “I love polar bears! I think their lifestyle in the Arctic is very interesting.” A few hours later, Mary and John started to feel hungry. They made their way back to the zoo entrance to eat lunch at the Rainforest Café. The Rainforest Café is both Mary and John’s favorite restaurant because there is an aquarium inside. The restaurant is also famous for its chocolate cake, which Mary ordered for dessert after they had finished their lunch. As Mary was finishing her cake, John excused himself to go to the restroom. About ten minutes later, an suddenly alarm began to go off and a voice came over the loudspeaker, “Attention! Someone has opened the chimpanzee exhibit! Some chimpanzees have escaped!” People were screaming and starting to run. Mary looked for John, but he was nowhere to be found. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2. 应使用5个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语; 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragraph 1: As more and more people ran out of the zoo, Mary began to think_________ _____ Paragraph 2: As Mary raced up the path to the animal exhibits, she stopped_________________________________ 期中考试高一年级英语科试卷答案[来源:学科网ZXXK] 听力(20*1.5=30分) 1-5 ACACB 6-10 BCBCA 11-15 CCBCB 16-20 ABABC 阅读理解 (10*2.5=25分) 21-23 DAB 24-27 DCDA 28-30 ADD 七选五 (5*2=10分) 31-35 BEGFD 完形填空 (20*1.5=30分) BCAAD DBACB ACDCA DDBBC 语法填空 (10*1.5=15分) 56 best 57 Whether 58 asking 59 choices 60 an 61 to 62 including 63 and 64 in 65 judgement/judgment 作文一 (15分) One Possible Version Dear Mr. Smith, I'm writing on behalf of my class to extend our warm welcome to you. With a mixture of fear and anxiety, Mary started leaving the restaurant to search for her partner. As she looked around the zoo grounds, it occurred to her that John had told her that chimpanzees were his favorite animals. John wouldn’t have left the restaurant to release the chimpanzees, would he? Oh no! Mary was sure she knew where John had gone. As Mary raced up the path to the animal exhibits, she stopped because she saw John with two chimpanzees held in his arms. He offered a small, guilty smile. “I didn’t mean to let them escape,” he said. “I just wanted to set them free so that they could play outside for a little while!” he continued with excitement. “I took the key from a zookeeper who wasn’t looking. But then, the exhibit lock broke and…” Behind Mary, Mrs. Brown had begun to walk up the path and saw John holding the animals. It was clear from her serious expression that he was in big trouble.查看更多
