Takamizawa said that she was in high school when World War Two started. She said, "In my second year there, English was banned because it was the enemy language." Takamizawa said her grandchildren helped persuade her that she was not too old to learn. "When I talked to my grandchildren about my wish, they said, 'It's not too late. We will teach you one word a day' ". Natsuko is Takamizawa's granddaughter and main English teacher. Natsuko sends a new English word to her grandmother's phone every day. They also often work together directly on phrases that Takamizawa will need for the Olympics. "Welcome to Tokyo, this is the Olympic stadium, how can I help you?" Takamizawa answers when asked to say an English phrase she has learned. Natsuko explains that she wanted to give her grandmother something to enjoy. "I can clearly see her English is getting better. It's my joy now." The EF English Proficiency Index is a measure of the level of English spoken in a country. Japan ranks 49th among countries where English is not the first language. This situation is slowly changing as younger generations welcome English. However, Takamizawa believes real change will not happen unless Japanese people become more open to the rest of the world. My character was equally molded by both cultures. For a long time, I was comfortable with being from two cultures. I was fluent in “Chinglish”. However, as I grew up, something unexpected rose, causing a parallel tension between the two corresponding cultures. During Chinese events when I was in China, the host would sometimes make fun of America. My relatives would look at me and laugh, asking me how I felt. But how could I respond to a question like that? If I said I was uncomfortable, it would just make me seem even more American in their eyes. But I couldn’t pretend to laugh either. So, I often just stayed quiet and smiled. Sometimes, I’d leave China feeling less Chinese than when I went in. This past summer, on my way back to Rochester, a man at the airport kept asking my father and I where we were from. When I told him I was from the United States, he didn’t seem to believe me. He then went on to ask the terrible question, “But like where are you really from, like, where were you born?” And no matter how specific our answer was, the man still seemed a little doubtful. He then went on to ask us if we knew where Tampa, Florida was and if we knew anything about it. It’s moments like these when I realize that sometimes my appearance makes it hard for me to seem fully American. These experiences made me question if I was more Chinese or American. I felt like I was neither. So, if I wasn’t completely one culture or the other, what was I? In China, I would feel more American, while in America, I would feel more Chinese There was no balance between my two cultures. But this doesn’t mean that I don’t embrace both my identities. I love both my Chinese cultural identity and my American one. I just need to learn to love them together. 28. How did the author feel about his identity at the very beginning? A. Special. B. Confident. C. Confused. D. Ridiculous. 29. Why did the author feel less Chinese when he left China? A. Because he found it hard to remain quiet and keep smile. B. Because he was unable to speak fluent Chinese at his hometown. C. Because he had lost his face in front of his relatives and friends. D. Because he was treated as an American by his Chinese relatives. 30. What made the man at the airport keep questioning where the author was from? A. His cultures. B. His experience. C. His look. D. His air tickets. 31. What could be the best title of the passage? A. Being culturally homeless. B. A Boy with two identities. C. A Chinese boy born in America. D. Better Chinese than American. D There has been a lot of publicity recently surrounding 5G, the next generation of wireless technology for the world. But what is this technology and how might it change our lives? 5G stands for fifth generation, meaning the next step in the progression of technology to replace the current 4G system. 4G was the replacement for 3G, which came after 2G, and so on. Earlier "G" systems were designed to improve mobile communication operations. Each new technology brought major improvements in speed and greatly increased network capacity ( 容 量). The new 5G system promises more of the same. However, technology experts say there is a major way that 5G is different than the earlier systems. It will move well beyond mobile network technology to affect many more devices and industries than other "G" versions. Wireless industry groups say 5G will help fuel future "smart cities" by connecting sensor ( 传 感 器 ) networks. 5G is also expected to connect self-driving cars and support new technologies involving virtual reality. Higher 5G speeds could also permit doctors to commonly perform remote medical operations. Factories and businesses could use 5G technology to increase automation and improve the collection of information. Every coin has two sides. Much of the data could contain private details about individuals, businesses or government organizations. The increased data flow would give internet attackers a lot more possibilities to steal and misuse data. In addition, the wider use of a 5G wireless network means any breakdown of the system would have more widespread and severe results. Such difficulties could affect public safety as well as world economic activity. 32. What is the significant difference between 5G and the early “G” systems? A. It will affect more devices and industries. B. It will change the way people communicate. C. It will reform the pattern of information system. D. It will improve internet speed and network capacity. 33.What can we learn about "smart cities" from the passage? A. Smart city is a city full of intelligent people. B. Now many smart cities have been built all over the world. C. As long as there is a wireless network, you can build a smart city. D. The development of 5G accelerates the construction of smart cities. 34.Why can 5G allow doctors to perform long-range medical operations? A. Because of the low cost of 5G. B. Because of the wide range of 5G. C. Because of the high speed of 5G. D. Because of the ability of 5G to collect information. 35.What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Possible risks of 5G technology. B. The advantages of 5G technology. C. The influence of 5G technology on the world. D. The importance of information security in the 5G era. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 In our life most people like green and green is an important color in nature.
