The colors of Zakimi’s pencil drawings are calming and George’s poetic text tells her story with simple language.‎ Pandora (Clarion Books, ages 3-7)‎ The award-winning author Victoria Turnbull tells the story of a little fox Pandora. Pandora lives alone. She makes herself a handsome home, but no one ever comes to visit. Then one day something falls from the sky -- a bird with a broken wing. Little by little, the bird helps Pandora feel less lonely. Turnbull’s watercolor and colored ‎ pencil drawings make this story of friendship and growth an atmospheric delight.‎ Prince and Pirate (G.P. Putnam’s Sons Books for Younger Readers, ages 5-8)‎ A different kind of friendship is described in this book, by Charlotte Gunnufson with pictures by Mike Lowery. Prince and Pirate are a pair of mismatched fish put into the same aquarium(水族馆). At first it seems that they’ll never learn to be friends. It’s only when both take pity on a frightened dogfish that they learn the benefits of cooperation, and soon all three fish become good friends.‎ The Giant Jumperee (Dinal Books, ages 3-5)‎ The story was written by the award-winning British author Julia Donaldson. When Rabbit hears a loud voice bellowing(吼叫)threateningly from inside a cave, he gathers Cat, Bear and Elephant to help him decide what to do. But it’s Mama Frog who fearlessly confronts(面对)the unknown creature. Helen Oxenbury’s soft watercolors create a beautiful countryside and her characterizations of the animals are impressive. ‎ ‎21. Who pictured the book Pandora? ‎ A. Kallie George B. Victoria Turnbull C. Paola Zakimi D. Charlotte Gunnufson ‎22. Which book tells a story about courage?‎ A. Pandora B. Secrets I Know C. Prince and Pirate D. The Giant Jumperee ‎23. What do the four books have in common?‎ A. Their publishers are the same one. B. Their characters are all animals.‎ C. They all have pencil drawings. D. Nobody’s hands went in the sauce except my own. But that night, as I explained with a touch of panic that a colander is the thing with ‎ holes in it, I wondered what else I hadn’t prepared Ray for. I felt confident that I’d raised a self-reliant boy, as we all try to do. But could he boil water? Sew on a button? Wash his clothes without turning them pink? No, no and no. Suddenly it hit me: He’d be leaving the house in a year to attend college. No way was I going to set a spoiled prince into the world.‎ As parents, while we focus on our child’s confidence and character, we perhaps don’t always consider that we are also raising someone’s future roommate, boyfriend, husband, or father. I wanted to know that I’d raised a boy who would never ask the woman in his life, “What’s for dinner?” So I came up with a plan: I would offer Ray a private home economics course. I was delighted to find that he didn’t say no.‎ For two hours, three days a week, Ray was all mine. One day, as his tomato sauce reduced on the stove, he washed and seasoned a chicken for toasting. Then he rolled out the piecrust(馅饼皮)and filled it with apples, all while listening to my explanation on the importance of preheating an oven.‎ Three of my four grandparents were tailors, so Ray was genetically programmed to quickly master the basics, like mending a split seam or refastening a button. One day we covered Advanced Laundry, in which I taught him never to mix a red sweatshirt with white shirts or put sweaters in the dryer. I knew that he would rather have been shooting hoops in the driveway than learning to mend socks with his mother -- he tried to beg off sewing lessons, even though I insisted that one day, someone would find the sight of him fixing his own shirt very attractive -- but it couldn’t be denied that he was learning, and more than just housekeeping. “I appreciate more what you do as a mom,” he told me one day.‎ Ray now understands the finer points of cooking, and more important, he realizes there’s nothing masculine(男子气的)about being helpless. Not only can he make his own dinner, he can make it for his family, too. That’s what I call a man.‎ ‎24. Hearing her son’s question, the author felt _______. ‎ A. shocked B. angry C. disappointed D. calm ‎25. We can learn from the text that Ray ________.‎ A. made great progress in cooking B. preferred sewing to cooking C. was unwilling to take the course at first D. always thought it attractive to do housework ‎26. The underlined part “I appreciate more what you do as a mom” shows that Ray _______.‎ A. fell in love with housework B. did other work in the house C. acknowledges the author’s efforts D. began to be more independent ‎27. What would be the best title for the text?‎ A. Women Are Programmed for Housework B. Boys Should Be Involved in Housework C. I’m Proud I’ve Raised a Curious Son D. A Present for My Future Daughter-in-law C Why do people lie? Many psychologists agree that lying can start from childhood. There are various reasons why children make false statements. They usually tell untruthful stories to cover up the mistakes that they have done in the past. Lying is also a way to avoid receiving punishments from parents. If parents fail to reprimand their children for making up false stories, then there is a possibility that they will continue to lie during their teenage years.‎ ‎ Teenagers lie because they want to be accepted by their friends. This is the main reason why they create stories that are not true just to become presentable and acceptable to other people. In some instances, teenagers tell untruthful statements to avoid criticisms from their families and friends.‎ As teenagers grow, lying becomes one of their habits. Their knowledge on making up untruthful stories becomes more developed. People lie in workplaces if they fail to meet the deadlines and if they fail to accomplish and do their tasks efficiently. Some of the common lies made in workplaces are getting sick and having emergencies at home. The danger involved in frequent lying is when it becomes a character. Frequent lying causes the development of the condition known to doctors as pathological(病态的) lying.‎ Pathological lying is a mental health condition, which is associated with individuals who have the urge to tell untruthful statements. Patients suffering from it make up stories about everything and anything. These individuals lie to meet the standards of other people who they want to please. These patients deceive other people because it gives them an unexplained pleasure. One of the best ways of treating pathological liars is to help them tell true statements and stories at all times. This may be hard for them, but as they are accustomed to it, they will start to realize that they will be more accepted by their families and other people if they stop themselves from making up false stories. ‎ ‎28. The underlined word "reprimand" in Paragraph l means " ".‎ ‎ A. scold B. fine C. praise D. disappoint ‎29. What's the major reason for teenagers' lying behavior?‎ ‎ A. Protecting themselves. B. Pleasing themselves.‎ ‎ C. Avoiding embarrassment. D. Becoming popular.‎ ‎30. Pathological lying is a disease because the patients .‎ ‎ A. lose interest in everything ‎ B. are critical about themselves ‎ C. can't help lying all the time ‎ D. have the urge to please others ‎31. The writer addresses pathological lying by analyzing _ .‎ ‎ A. some typical cases ‎ B. its causes and development ‎ C. its unexplained pleasure D. the difficulty of its treatment D Public transport is declining in the rich world. To those who have to squeeze onto the number 25 bus in London, or the A train in New York, the change might not be noticeable. But public transport is becoming less busy in those places, and passenger numbers are flat or falling in almost every American city. That is despite healthy growth in urban populations and employment.‎ Although transport agencies blame their unpopularity on things like roadworks and broken signals, it seems more likely that they are being outcompeted. App-based taxi services like Uber and Lyft are more comfortable and convenient than trains or buses. Cycling is nicer than it was, and rental bikes are more widely available. Cars are cheap to buy, thanks to cut-rate loans, and ever cheaper to run. Online shopping, home working and office-sharing mean more people can avoid travelling altogether.‎ The competition is only likely to grow. More than one laboratory is developing new transport technologies and applications. Silicon Valley invented Uber and, more recently, apps that let people rent electric scooters(滑板车) and then abandon them on the pavement. China created sharing-bicycles and battery-powered "e-bikes", both of which are spreading.‎ Transport agencies should accept the upstarts, and copy them. Cities tend either to ignore app-based services or to try to push them off the streets. That is understandable, given the rules-are-for-losers attitude of firms like Uber. But it is an error.‎ It is doubtful that most people make hard distinctions between public and private transport. They just want to get somewhere, and there is a cost in time, money and comfort. An ideal system would let them move across a city for a single payment, transferring from trains to taxis to bicycles as needed. Building a platform to allow that is hard, and requires much sweet-talking of traditional networks as well as technology firms. It is probably the secret to keeping cities moving.‎ ‎32. What is the change in public transport in big cities?‎ A. It is becoming busier. B. It is getting less popular.‎ C. There are fewer traffic delays. D. There is more new transport.‎ ‎33. In the author’s opinion, the reason for the decline of public transport is that ______.‎ A. there are roadworks and broken signals B. people are becoming healthier and employed C. cars and bikes are more and more available D. transport agencies are seemingly less competitive ‎34. How does the author develop his idea in Paragraph 3?‎ A. By giving examples B. By providing research results C. By stating arguments D. By comparing different approaches ‎35. According to the text, the key to keeping cities moving is ____________.‎ A. to develop an ideal system that satisfies everyone B. to build a platform that appeals to transport agencies C. to provide people with more means of transportation D. to support the cooperation of both traditional networks and technology firms 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为 多余选项。‎ The study habits of top students at Oxford University Go to your lectures.‎ For the first 2 years of Oxford, I went to maybe 4 lectures out of hundreds available. 36 ‎ In my third year, I went to almost every single lecture available, including those involving topics I was not personally involved or interested in. ‎ ‎___37  Firstly, lectures are FUN!
