Do you think it comes from a newspaper or a book? How do you know? Bus Driver and Passengers Save an Old Man At 9:00 a.m. yesterday, bus No. 26 was going along Zhonghua Road when the driver saw an old man lying on the side of the road. A woman next to him was shouting for help. The bus driver, 24-year-old Wang Ping, stopped the bus without thinking twice. He got off and asked the woman what happened. She said that the man had a heart problem and should go to the hospital. Mr. Wang knew he had to act quickly. He told the passengers that he must take the man to the hospital. He expected most or all of the passengers to get off and wait for the next bus. But to his surprise, they all agreed to go with him. Some passengers helped Mr. Wang to move the man onto the bus. Thanks to Mr. Wang and the passengers, the doctors saved the man in time. “It’s sad that many people don’t want to help others because they don’t want any trouble,” says one passenger. “But the driver didn’t think about himself. He only thought about saving a life.” 3b. What’s the matter? 这是询问病人病情时最常用的问句, 意思是“怎么了?”, 其后通常与介词with 连用。类似的问句还有: What’s wrong? What’s wrong with you? What’s your trouble? What’s the trouble with you? What’s up? 1) matter n.问题, 麻烦, 事件, 通常与 介词 “with”连用。 2) wrong是形容词, 前面没有“the”; matter和trouble都是名词, 前面应有 “the”, trouble前还可以用形容词性 的物主代词。 What’s your trouble, young man? 年轻人, 你怎么了? 2. I have a sore throat. 我喉咙痛。 1) have vt. 患(得)病, (不用于进行时态) He had a bad cold last week. 他上周患了重感冒。 She often has a stomachache. 她常胃(肚子)疼。 一般情况下用have+a+n. 表示患了 某种疾病。如:have a cough 咳嗽 have a cold 感冒 2) sore“痛, 疼”, 通常指因发炎引起的 肌肉疼, 在表示身体的某部位疼痛时, 常置于部位名词前。 ache常指持续性的疼痛, 它常与身体 部位的名词构成复合词, 如: headache头痛, backache背疼等。 3. have a cold 伤风, 感冒,是固定词组, 表示身体不适的常用词组还有: 牙疼 have a toothache 胃疼 have a stomachache 发烧 have a fever 嗓子疼, 喉咙疼 背疼 脖子疼 感冒 头疼 have a sore throat have a sore back have a backache have a cold have a headache 4. lie down and rest lie down 躺下 Don’t lie down on the ground. 不要躺在地上。 与down有关的词组 sit down 坐下 come down 下来 get down 下车 write down 写下, 记下 5. hot tea with honey 加蜜热茶 1) hot adj. 热的 2) with 介词, 意思是“ 有, 用, 同……,由于, 和……一致, 赞成, 关于”, 此句中是 “有, 带有……”的意思。 如: 有四个口袋的外套 a coat with four pocket 6. …Bus No. 26 was going along Zhonghua Road when the driver saw an old man lying on the side of the road. 1)过去进行时表示在过去某一时刻或 某一时间内进行或发生的动作。 其形式为was/were+ V-ing。常与表 示过去的时间状语连用。如:last night,last Saturday等;或与when, while,as引导的过去时间状语连用。 昨天晚上七点到九点的时候我们 在看电视。 We were watching TV from seven to nine last night. 上周日他一整天都在研究什么? What was he researching all day last Sunday? Practise 2) when常常用来引出时间状语从句,放 在过去进行时构成的主句后,表示某事 正在进行时,另一件事情发生了。 那天下午他们正在商场购物, 就在这时 一场大火发生了。 They were shopping in the mall that afternoon when a big fire broke out. 我正想着这件事时,突然听到有人叫我 的名字。 I was thinking of this when I heard my name called. Practise 3) see somebody doing something 固定结构,表示“看到某人正在从事 某事或所处的状态”。类似的结构还 有:hear/watch somebody doing… see somebody do something “看见某 人做了某事”,是指看见事情发生的 全过程。 昨天我看见他在花园里干活了。 I saw him work in the garden yesterday. (强调“我看见了”这个事实) 昨天我见他正在花园里干活。 I saw him working in the garden yesterday. (强调"我见他正干活"这 个动作) Practise 7. The bus driver … stopped the bus without thinking twice. think twice是英语中一种固定的表述,表 示在做某事之前“认真思考;权衡利弊”。 请再三考虑你辞职的事情。 Please think twice about leaving your job. 在我们做出这个决定前,必须认真思考!
