The fat man sat on the terrace (平台),sipping lemonade and pretending to look at a tourism brochure. His sunglasses masked his eyes, but I knew he wasn't looking at the brochure: he hadn't turned a page for the last ten minutes. As I brought him his dishes, he coughed up a "thank you" and looked at me briefly. I tried not to stare at the tiny scar across his left eyebrow.‎ I walked back inside with my empty tray, shaking my head. He looked familiar, but I couldn't quite ‎ place him. Then it hit me. The car accident. The mysterious stranger who helped me out of my crashed car, just before it exploded. I rushed back to his table. He was gone.‎ I moved his saucer and found his tip, along with a card:I am deeply grateful to you. The night o£ your car accident, I was on my way to rob a jewelry store. Saving your life brought things back in a right way. I now live an honest life, thanks to you. God bless you! Mr. D.‎ I shivered(震颤).The night of my car accident, I was heading for an interview in an illegal dance club. Seeing human kindness through his heroic gesture turned my life around and brought faith back into my life. I unfolded the tip he left. But new guidelines from the American Academy of Neurology suggest there's something better you can do to keep your mind sharp.‎ A quarter of adults aged 80 to 84 experience mild cognitive (认知的) impairment, according to AAN. To address the widespread problem, a group of neurologists and Alzheimer's (阿尔兹海默氏症的) specialists went through existing studies to define the best ways to prevent and treat cognitive decline-and you might be surprised by what they included and what they didn't.‎ Surprisingly, the AAN guidelines don't include any medication (药物) or dietary recommendations. The authors stress that there haven't been any high-quality, long-term studies finding foods or medication can help cognitive decline. The guidelines also say doctors can consider suggesting cognitive training to patients with memory loss but not to rely on it. So far, the report's authors say the evidence is too inconclusive to say for sure if brain exercises, like memory and attention training or problem solving for everyday issues associated with memory loss, are beneficial. Still, these morning brain exercises can't do any harm.‎ But there was one big discovery from the new guidelines: Exercising just twice a week could improve cognitive decline. One study showed adults with mild cognitive impairment who did resistance training twice a week scored better on executive function and associative (联想的) memory tests than a group that worked on balancing, stretching, and relaxing.‎ What's more, another study had older adults attend either biweekly health classes or sessions of aerobics, strength training, balance exercises, and multitasking training. Six months later, the ones who'd exercised regularly scored better on cognitive health and memory tests, plus had less brain shrinkage.‎ AAN now recommends doctors tell patients with memory loss to exercise twice a week to keep their minds sharp. This is the best time to exercise if you want to improve your memory. It looks like you've got just one more reason to clear time in your schedule for a workout — even if it's only on the weekends.‎ ‎28.What does the underlined word ''impairment'' in paragraph 2 refer to?‎ A.Error. B.Decline. C.Development. D.Presence.‎ ‎29.AAN may be uncertain about .‎ A.strength training B.resistance training C.exercises twice a week D.brain exercise ‎30.Which of the following may the author agree with?‎ A.Daily exercises are beneficial to Alzheimer.‎ B.The AAN guidelines attach importance to workout.‎ C.Medication is of significance in the AAN guidelines.‎ D.Stocking up on vitamins supporting brainpower means nothing.‎ ‎31.In which section of a newspaper may this text appear?‎ A.Exercise. B.Entertainment. C.Science D.Health D Here is a record of the discussion about AI (artificial intelligence) conducted by several scientists:‎ Scientist A: I would say that we are quite a long way off developing the AI, though I do think it will happen within the next thirty or forty years. We will probably remain in control of technology and it will help us solve many of the world’s problems. However, no one really knows what will happen if machines become more intelligent than humans. They may help us, ignore us or destroy us. I tend to believe AI will have a positive influence on our future lives, but whether that is true will be partly up to us.‎ Scientist B: I have to admit that the potential consequences of creating something that can match or go beyond human intelligence frighten me. Even now, scientists are teaching computers how to learn on their own. At some point in the near future, their intelligence may well take off and develop at an ever-increasing speed. Human beings evolve biologically very slowly and we would be quickly substituted. In the short term,‎ ‎ there is the danger that robots will take over millions of human jobs, creating a large underclass of unemployed people. This could mean large-scale poverty and social unrest. In the long term machines might decide the world would be better without humans.‎ Scientist C: I’m a member of the Campaign to Stop Killer Robots. Forget the movie image of a terrifying Terminator stamping on human skulls and think of what’s happening right now: military machines like drones, gun turrets and sentry robots are already being used to kill with very little human input. The next step will be autonomous “murderbots” following orders but finally deciding who to kill on their own. It seems clear to me that this would be extremely dangerous for humans. We need to be very cautious indeed about what we ask machines to do.‎ ‎32.What is Scientist B worried about?‎ A.AI technology will destroy the earth. B.Robots will take the place of humans.‎ C.Computers can’t think by themselves. D.Humans will be unhappy without machines.‎ ‎33.What does the underlined word “this” in the last paragraph refer to?‎ A.I launched the campaign to Stop Killer Robots.‎ B.We forget the movie image of a terrifying Terminator.‎ C.“Murderbots” will be against humans’ orders.‎ D.“Murderbots” can’t decide by themselves.‎ ‎34.Which statement is CORRECT according to the record?‎ A.The employment will be affected by AI technology in the future.‎ B.Scientist A thinks AI technology will never develop.‎ C.“Murderbots” will follow the orders of their manufacturers in the wars.‎ D.All the three scientists agree that AI technology will benefit human beings.‎ ‎35.Who agree(s) AI has more negative aspects than positive aspects?‎ A.Scientist A. B.Scientists B & C. C.Scientist B. D.Scientists B & A.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ The effect of bullying (欺凌) can be serious and even lead to tragedy. A year later, an analysis by the US government found that bullying played a major role in more than two-thirds of the campus violence.‎ ‎37. Numerous invaders throughout history have tried to defend their bullying behavior by claiming that they themselves were bullied. 38. Although there is no justification for bullying, many of the worst humans in history have indeed bullies and victims of bullying.‎ Since bullying is often ignored, it may provide an important clue in crowd behavior and passer-by behavior. 39. Many of them have suggested bullying as one of the reasons of this becoming less sensitive to violence. 40. In this sense, bullying affects not only the bullied but his friends and classmates and the whole society.‎ A.Research indicates that the victim often becomes the bully.‎ B.Psychologists have been puzzled by the inactivity of crowds and bystanders when crimes occur in crowded places.‎ C.More attention should be paid to people's reaction to bullying when it happens.‎ D.Hitler, for example, is claimed to have been a victim of bullying in his childhood.‎ E.Campus bullying is becoming a serious problem in some high schools in big cities.‎ F.The friends and classmates of the bully and the victim also accept the violence as normal.‎ G.The link between bullying and school violence has attracted increasing attention since 1999.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 (共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ Yesterday afternoon, I bought a few things from the supermarket.
