And when he was 15 he signed his schoolmates up to start a baby-sitting circle.        Now 20, third-year Cambridge‎ ‎University student, Peter Blackburn is managing director of a company with a £ 30,000 plan. And he thinks it will make more than $15,000 by next summer.         He set up Peter Blackborn Ltd last year to bring out a new, colour term-planner that now students all over the UK are using.         “I felt that most of the planners going around were pretty unimaginative,” he says, “I believed that I could do a better job and decided to have a go”.        Blackburn admits that he is putting far more effort into business than his computer studies course at university. While fellow students are out with their friends, he keeps in touch with his business office in Lancashire by movable phone. Before he set up the company he spent one holiday preparing a plan that would persuade the bank to lend him money.        “Most students work hard for a good degree because they believe that will help them get a job to support themselves,” he says “I work hard at my company, because that is what will support me next year, after I leave college.”        Friends believe that Blackburn will make £ 1 million within 5 years.        He is not quite so sure, however. “There’s a lot to be done yet,” he says.‎ ‎21. Men rule the world, but their mothers and wives rule them.‎ Most American women wish to make their husbands and sons successful, but some of them want more for themselves. They want good jobs. When they work they want to be better paid. They want to be as successful as men.‎ The American women’s liberation movement was started by women who didn’t want to stand behind successful men. They wanted to stand beside men, with the same chance for success. They refused to work side by side with men who do the same work for a higher pay.‎ A liberated woman must be proud of being a woman and have confidence in herself. If somebody says to her, “You have come a long way, baby.” she will smile and answer, “Not nearly as far as I’m going to go, baby!”‎ This movement is quite new, and many American women don’t agree yet. But it has already made some important changes in women’s lives---in men’s lives, too.‎ ‎26.“The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.” means________.‎ A.women can not only give birth to children but rule a country B.women not only raise their children but support their husbands C.women do play an important part in men's lives and work D.a man can't be successful without being married ‎27.“You've come a long way baby. ” means________.‎ A.you have walked far from your home B.she has done a lot and succeeded greatly in freeing herself C.she has worked outside far from her home D.you really love me dear ‎28.“Not nearly as far as I'm going to go baby. ” means ________.‎ A.the way isn't very far B.she must go even farther to work C.she isn't so satisfied with success D.she is very much satisfied with her the way she covered ‎29.According to the passage, the writer ________ the women's liberation.‎ A.is all for B.doesn't tell us his idea on C.is strongly against D.isn't strongly against ‎30.The best title of this passage should be ________.‎ A.Something About Women B.Women And Their Husbands C.Men's Liberation In The USA D.Women's Liberation In The ‎USA C In a few years, you might be able to speak Chinese, Korean, Japanese, French, and English--- and all at the same time. This sounds incredible, but Alex Waibel, a computer science professor at US's Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and Germany's University‎ of ‎Karlsruhe, announced last week that it may soon be reality. He and his team have invented software and hardware that could make it far easier for people who speak different languages to understand each other.   One application, called Lecture Translation, can easily translate a speech from one language into another. Current translation technologies typically limit speakers to certain topics or a limited vocabulary. Users also have to be trained how to use the programme.   Another machine can send translations of a speech to different listeners depending on what language they speak. "It is like having a simultaneous translator right next to you but without disturbing the person next to you," Waibel said. Prefer to read? So-called Translation Glasses transcribe(转录) the translations on a tiny liquid-crystal(液晶) display (LCD) screen. Then there's the Muscle Translator. Electrodes capture the electrical signals from facial muscle movements made naturally when a person is mouthing words. The signals are then translated into speech. The electrodes could be replaced with wireless chips implanted in a person's face, according to researchers.‎ During a demonstration held last Thursday in CMU's Pittsburgh campus, a Chinese student named Sang Jun had 11 tiny electrodes attached to the muscles of his cheeks, neck and throat. Then he mouthed---without speaking aloud---a few words in Mandarin (普通话) to the audience.‎ ‎ A few seconds later, the phrase was displayed on a computer screen and spoken out by the computer in English and Spanish: "Let me introduce our new prototype."      This particular gadget (器具), when fully developed, might allow anyone to speak in any number of languages or, as Waibel put it," to switch your mouth to a foreign language". "The idea behind the university's prototypes is to create ‘good enough’ bridges for cross-cultural exchanges that are becoming more common in the world," Waibel said.      With spontaneous(自发的) translators, foreign drivers in Germany could listen to traffic warnings on the radio, tourists in China could read all the signs and talk with local people, leaders of different countries could have secret talks without any interpreters there.‎ ‎31. What can't be learned from the text?‎ A. The spontaneous translators will help us a lot. B. There is no Muscle Translator in the world now. C. Muscle Translators can translate what you think into speech if you just move your mouth. D. A lecture translation can translate what you said into other languages easily.‎ ‎32. What does the underlined word mean?‎ A. happening at the same time.           B. happening by itself. C. similar in size.                       D. similar in quality.‎ ‎33. What's the final destination of inventing the language translators?‎ A. To make cultural exchanges between different countries easier. B. To help students learn foreign languages more easily. C. To make people live in foreign countries more comfortably. D. To help people learn more foreign languages in the future.‎ ‎34. What can be inferred from the seventh paragraph?‎ A. The translator is so good that it can translate any language into the very language you need. B. The translator is becoming more and more common in the world as a bridge. C. With the help of the translator, you only need to open your mouth when you want to say something without saying the exact words at all. D. The translator needs to be improved before being put into market.‎ ‎35. Where can we probably find this passage?‎ A. A newspaper.                          B. A magazine on science. C. A fairy tale.                            D. A scientific fantasy book.‎ 第二节(共五小题,每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Business is the organized approach to providing customers with the goods and services they want. My daughters began to rush to me after school to tell me the good deed they had done. Now, after a year, I am happy to say that it is making a(n) __50__ in our lives.
