Temperatures in the city of Norilsk, which is in the Arctic Circle, reached a record high of 32 ℃, The Atlantic reported. Temperatures there are usually just 10 ℃ at this time of the year. NASA said that if this continues, the Arctic will have no ice by the year 2040. This has put some Arctic animals, like polar bears, in danger. The ice that the bears live on has shrunk(缩小), the Toronto Star reported. Melting ice can also cause sea levels to rise in the long term. Since 1993, sea levels have risen at a rate of 3.2 cm every 10 years, the Guardian reported. We got Mayday!” Frank Pisano screamed over the microphone to the air control tower at the airport. One of the two engines on his plane had failed, and he was now going down towards one of the busiest highways in America—Interstate 405,just south of Los Angeles—and there was no stopping it. Driving south on the 405,near the airport’s runway, was John Meffert,a fire department captain. He was heading home from his shift when suddenly a low—flying plane caught his eye. After he took a second glance,a thought crossed his mind:“This plane’s going to hit me.” He was right. The plane slammed into the road, popped up a few feet, and then clipped the front of Meffert’s car.It finally stopped after hitting the divider(隔栏).Meffert pulled over.He was unhurt, and his car had received only a large scratch,so he turned his attention to the plane. He ran towards the smoke, and then he saw Frank’s wife, Janan Pisano, pop her head up on the passenger side. By the time Meffert reached the aircraft, part of it was on fire and Janan, who was covered in blood, was on the wing trying to pull her husband from the wreck. Meffert, afraid the plane would explode, guided her to safety behind it.Then,he ran back for Frank, who had been knocked out by the initial crash, lying across both seats. Meffert carefully positioned himself under the pilot’s arms and lifted him from the cockpit. Then he dragged the pilot off the wing and carried him to safety, where they could see the plane in flames. The Pisanos spent three weeks in the hospital.Remarkably,Meffert’s car was the only one hit by the plane.Had Meffert been a second or two faster,Frank said, the left propeller(螺旋桨))would have ripped the top off his car and killed him. “I play all the what-ifs—going slower, going faster. It could have been a very different result,”Meffert said.“We just had a lot of angels.” 28.What does the underlined word “Mayday” in Paragraph 1 refer to? D.His belief in God. 31.It can be inferred from the passage that__________. A.Meffert and Frank were friends. B.Meffert’s car was not totally damaged. C.Janan Pisano was one of the crew of the airport. D.the plane would take off again when Frank recovered. D For fans of Tai Chi, the wait to see it get global recognition may soon be over. China has nominated (提名) Tai Chi to be included in the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage. A final decision will be made later this year. The list was introduced by UNESCO in 2008 to celebrate and protect the world’s cultural diversity. It’s hoped that Tai Chi will become China’s 30th entry on the list. But there are fears that other countries could beat China to UNESCO’s list. Now both South Korea and Japan are competing with us to get Tai Chi registered. Tai Chi, a kind of martial art, has been practised in China for centuries. It combines slow movements, deep breathing and meditation(冥想). Every movement in Tai Chi represents an important part of traditional Chinese philosophy—harmony. “It is not just a traditional activity. It is deeply rooted in many areas of Chinese culture and is connected to ancient Chinese civilization.” said Zhu Xianghua, the son of the famous Tai Chi master Zhu Tiancai from the village of Chenjiagou, Henan. That is widely thought to be the birthplace of Tai Chi. Although it’s popular, the idea that Tai Chi is for the elderly has stopped many young people practising the ancient martial art. They think of it as a slow exercise, which is better suited for their grandparents. Many young people are turning to Indian Yoga, which was placed on UNESCO’s list last year. About 10 million Chinese people practise yoga in 2014, up from 4 million in 2009. Many of them do yoga to keep fit and relieve stress. Tai chi is also a great way to keep healthy. Researchers from the American college of Rheumatology found that it can help manage several diseases. At the same time, more efforts are being made by China to get young people to practise this kind of martial art. 32. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. Tai Chi and Indian Yoga. B.
