There was not one night that I don’t remember mom reading me a storybook by my bedside. I was extremely inspired by the wonderful way the words sounded.‎ I always wanted to know what my mom was reading. Hearing mom say, “I can’t believe what’s printed in the newspaper this morning,” made me want to grab it out of her hands and read it myself. I wanted to be like my mom and know all of the things she knew. So I carried around a book, and each night, just to be like her, I would pretend to be reading.‎ This is how everyone learned to read. We would start off with sentences, then paragraphs, and then stories. It seemed an unending journey, but even as a six-year-old girl I realized that knowing how to read could open many doors. When mom said, “The C-A-N-D-Y is hidden on the top shelf,” I knew where the candy was. My progress in reading raised my curiosity, and I wanted to know everything. I often found myself telling my mom to drive more slowly, so that I could read all of the road signs we passed.‎ Most of my reading through primary, middle and high school was factual reading. I read for knowledge, and to make A’s on my tests. Sometimes, I would read a novel that was assigned, but I didn’t enjoy this type of reading. I liked facts, things that are concrete. I thought anything abstract left too much room for argument.‎ Now that I’m growing and the world I once knew as being so simple is becoming more complex, I find myself needing a way to escape. By opening a novel, I can leave behind my burdens and enter into a wonderful and mysterious world where I am now a new character. In these worlds I can become anyone. I don’t have to write down what happened or what technique the author was using when he or she wrote this. I just read to relax.‎ We’re taught to read because it’s necessary for much of human understanding. Reading is an important part of my life. Reading satisfies my desire to keep learning. And I’ve found that the possibilities that lie within books are limitless.‎ ‎24. Why did the author want to grab the newspaper out of mom’s hands?‎ A. She wanted mom to read the news to her.‎ B. She couldn’t wait to tear the newspaper apart.‎ C. She couldn’t help but stop mom from reading.‎ D. She was eager to know what had happened.‎ ‎25. According to Paragraph 3, the author’s reading of road signs shows___________.‎ A. her own way to find herself B. her eagerness to develop her reading ability C. her growing desire to know the world around her D. her effort to remind mom to obey traffic rules ‎26. The author takes novel reading as a way to___________.‎ A. explore a mysterious land ‎ B. develop an interest in learning ‎ C. get away from a confusing world ‎ D. learn about the adult world ‎27. What could be the best title for the passage?‎ A. The Pleasure of Reading B. Growing Up with Reading C. The Magic of Reading D. Reading Makes a Full Man ‎ C Mass communication has been growing and affecting the way communities and people behave. At every stage of the development of communication, from the telegraph to the Internet, societies have had to adapt to its effects. But have the effects been more positive or negative?‎ The saying “Knowledge is power” has been an excellent motivator for people to improve their lives, but today the massive amount of information available through the Internet doesn’t always seem to to be helping people in the way we had hoped.Rather than improving people’s lives and bringing us closer together, the information age is making us more divided and irresponsible.‎ Nevertheless, many people find comfort in their virtual worlds and are happy to connect with real-life friends and online friends from the familiar surroundings of their living rooms. However, being able to reinvent themselves online and be whoever ‎ they want to be leads to the question of whether they are losing their identities by living in a virtual world. It’s not all bad news, however. Mass communication has helped change some attitudes for the better. Take our views on the environment for example. Internet campaigns by governments and other organizations have helped popularize the ideas of recycling, protecting wildlife and reducing pollution.‎ Modern electronic communication now influences every aspect of our lives-it is a powerful tool that has raised some concerns for society. However,it has also brought countless benefits to society. At the end of the day, it can be used both for good or evil, which largely relies on the morals and sense of responsibility of the individual or community involved. In short,it needs to be used with care.‎ ‎28. According to the text, the information age today _______.‎ A. helps people improve their lives B. fully shows “ knowledge is power”‎ C. makes people feel more connected to others D. fails to achieve our expectations sometimes ‎29. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?‎ A. People only connect with online friends.‎ B. Online friends can be comforting for all people.‎ C. Virtual lives can make people clear of who they are.‎ D. The Internet helps to raise our environmental awareness.‎ ‎30. What can be known about electronic communication in the last paragraph?‎ A. It should be used in a cautious way.‎ B. It does more harm than good to society.‎ C. Its side effects can’t be handled by individuals.‎ D. It should be strictly controlled by the government.‎ ‎31. What does the text mainly talk about?‎ A. The comfort of the virtual worlds.‎ B. The effects of mass communication.‎ C. The development of mass communication.‎ D. The way to use modern mass communication.‎ ‎ D Your glasses may someday replace your smartphone, and some New Yorkers are ready for the switch. Some in the city can’t wait to try them on and use the maps and GPS that the futuristic eyewear is likely to include.‎ ‎“I’d use it if I were hanging out with friends at ‎3 a.m. and going to the bar and wanted to see what was open,”said Walter Choo, 40, of Fort Greene.‎ The smartphone-like glasses will likely come out this year and cost between $250 and $600, the Times said, possibly including a variation of augmented (增强的) reality, a technology already available on smartphones and tablets (平板电脑) that overlays information onto the screen about one’s surroundings. So, for example, if you were walking down a street, indicators would pop up showing you the nearest coffee shop or directions could be plotted out and come into view right on the sidewalk in front of you.‎ ‎“As far as a mainstream consumer product, this just isn’t something anybody needs,”said Sam Biddle, who writes for Gizmodo.com. “We’re accustomed to having one thing in our pocket to do all these things,”he added,“and the average consumer isn’t going to be able to afford another device (装置) that’s hundreds and hundreds of dollars.”‎ Google publisher Seth Weintraub, who has been reporting on the smartphone-like glasses since late last year, said he is confident that this type of wearable device will eventually be as common as smartphones.‎ ‎“It’s just like smartphones 10 years ago,”Weintraub said.“A few people started getting emails on their phones, and people thought that was crazy. Same kind of thing. We see people bending their heads to look at their smartphones, and it’s unnatural,”he said.“There’s going to be improvements to that, and this a step there.”‎ ‎32. One of the possible functions of the smartphone-like glasses is to________.‎ A. program the opening hours of a bar B. supply you with a picture of the future C. update the maps and GPS in your smartphones D. provide information about your surroundings ‎33. The underlined phrase“pop up”in the third paragraph probably means_________.‎ ‎ A. develop rapidly B. get round quickly C. appear immediately D. go over automatically(自动地)‎ ‎34. According to Sam Biddle, the smartphone-like glasses are_________.‎ A. necessary for teenagers B. attractive to New Yorkers C. available to people worldwide D. expensive for average consumers ‎35. We can learn from the last two paragraphs that the smartphone-like glasses________.‎ A. may have a potential market B. are as common as smartphones C. are popular among young adults D. will be improved by a new technology ‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) ‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 (将选项涂在答题卡相应的71-75题) ‎ Do you have a health problem, such as high blood pressure or obesity? The little family happily lived in a beautiful village surrounded with beautiful nature. The village was at the foot of a mountain, with beautiful views of the snowy mountain. The family survived on growing seasonal plants and trees. Their life is totally surrounded by nature and beauty.‎ While they lived a very happy life, Carol did not love the beautiful atmosphere of the village. She really wanted to move into the city and enjoy the city life. She wanted to shop, move around the city, watch movies, and eat in fantastic restaurants and cafes, etc.‎ However, there was hardly any chance that Carol’s family moved to the city as they had everything in the village.‎ One day, Carol fell asleep during the early noon and she had a sound sleep. Of course, she had a strange dream. She saw her grandmother in her dream as a fairy and her deceased grandmother granted her a wish. Carol requested her that she should love to enjoy the city life as she always desired.‎ Grandmother understood the desire of Carol, but still wanted to convince her that the peaceful village life is better than the city life.‎ She told Carol, “Baby, you cannot have access to fresh fruits and vegetables from plants as you have at your home. You cannot breathe fresh air. You cannot play with animals. You can hardly find any trees. You will not find peace as you see here! Do you still want to go to the city?”‎ Without hearing the concerns, Carol asked her grandmother to grant the wish. Grandmother granted her wish, but with a condition. Carol was told that she would only have 6 hours to spend in the city. Later, she would return to the village. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ ‎ Carol then found herself in the city with her friends.‎ ‎___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2:‎ Carol’s brother Rob was calling her for lunch and Carol woke up.‎ ‎___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ 安平中学2019-2020学年上学期第四次月考 ‎ 高二英语试题 选择题答案 1-5 CACBC 6-10 CABBA 11-15 ABCBA 16-20 BCBBC ‎ 21-23 DCD 24-27 DCCB 28-31 DDAB 32-35 DCDA 36-40 ADBCF ‎41-45 BCBAC 46-50 BCABC 51-55 CBDCA ‎ 非选择题答案:语法填空:‎ ‎56. was observed 57. As a result, our handwriting is not so good as it was in the past. In order to protect our Chinese characters and write both nicely and neatly, we’d like to offer some suggestions.‎ We should spend less time online so that we can have more time to read books and newspapers. We’d better form the habit of practicing calligraphy and keeping diaries every day. Besides, it is better to writer letters to our relatives and friends by hand rather than send e-mails.‎ As the saying goes, “The style is the man.” Beautiful and neat handwriting is beneficial to us students. So please pay more attention to our handwriting in the future.‎ Let’s take actions now!‎ Students’ Union 第二节 Carol then found herself in the city with her friends. Carol and her friends went to watch movies. After that they ate delicious food in a restaurant and shopped in a huge mall. Carol was happy that she had the chance to experience the life in the city. Yet at the same time, she understood that everything told by her grandmother ‎ was true in the city. There was no peace and no silence; the city life was fast and rushing. The air quality is not satisfying. She could hardly find any animal or even a tree.‎ Carol’s brother Rob was calling her for lunch and Carol woke up. She recalled what happened just now in her dream and realized that her life in the village with her family was far more wonderful than the city life. Carol understood that she was having a more joyful life. She shared her dream with her family while enjoying the fresh fruits and vegetables, and they laughed together. Carol also developed love for plants, animals and beautiful nature.‎ ‎ 本篇书面表达是读后续写。 Carol was happy that she had the chance to experience the life in the city.宾语从句中包含动词不定式做后置定语;she understood that everything told by her grandmother was true in the city.过去分词做后置定语;while enjoying the fresh fruits and vegetables,句中使用现在分词做状语。‎
