They claim to be able to classify the nation’s people by fridge contents.‎ They say those people can be separated into five categories: nutrition nerds (no social sense), food faddiest (whatever’s in style), martyr mums, fast food fanatics and restaurant regulars.‎ Nutrition nerds care much about what they put into their bodies. Their fridges are stocked with fruit, vegetables and healthy meat.‎ People in this category tend to be highly organized and usually work in law or accountancy. The vast majority is single, but if they have a partner, that person will be similar.‎ A fridge full of vitamins-enriched juices implies its owner works in media or fashion. They tend not to eat the foods they buy. Known as the food faddies, they just want to be seen as purchasing the latest important things.‎ A fridge filled with everything from steak to frozen fish suggests the martyr mum. Her fridge tends to be stocked with every kind of product, except what she herself would want. This fridge hints at difficulty balancing family and work life. Fast food fanatics always buy mineral water for soda pop; the nearest they will get to fresh fruit is tomato sauce. Their fridges hint at someone who works hard and plays hard. Also, someone who is not into long term planning.‎ Finally, a fridge filled with nothing more than a bottle of white wine and some sparkling mineral water implies an owner who is single, lives in a big city and enjoys the finer things in life. The fridge is empty because this person regularly eats in restaurants.‎ ‎24. We can know from the first two paragraphs that .‎ A. some researchers are fond of staring at other people’s fridges B. the food you put in the fridge has something to do with your personality ‎ C. people don’t want others to know about their secrets D. there are mainly five kinds of lifestyles among British people.‎ ‎25. According to the passage, people who belong to food faddies ___ . ‎ A. often stay up late to finish their job ‎ B. will try their best to stay healthy C. don’t care much about money when buying things ‎ D. prefer to ask others about what to do next ‎26. What will those who often dine out put in the fridge?‎ A. Only something to drink. B. All kinds of food they like.‎ C. Fruit, vegetables and meat. D. Food rich in vitamins.‎ ‎27. What might be the most suitable title for the text?‎ A. Keep your fridge a secret B. Be careful about your fridge C. What to put in the fridge? D. You are what’s in your fridge ‎ C Ralph Ellison’s novel, “Invisible(看不见的)Man”, was published in nineteen fifty-two. Ellison was at once called a major new writer. The book won the National Book Award, a high and rare honor for a first novel.‎ Since then millions of copies have been printed. The book is still used in many universities and other schools. One professor said that he has used the book in his teaching for twenty-five years. He said that each time he returns to “Invisible Man” he finds new ideas in it.‎ After “Invisible Man” was published, Ralph Ellison taught at a number of universities. He retired from New York University in nineteen eighty. While he was alive, he published only two other books. They were books of criticism(批判)and essays, called “Shadow and Act” and “Going to the Territory”.‎ Ralph Ellison died in nineteen ninety-four, at the age of eighty. In a victory of green business that is certain to appeal to environmentally-aware music-lovers, a design student is to receive financial support to produce eco-friendly tents made of cardboard that can be recycled after the bands and the crowds have gone home.‎ Major festivals such as Glastonbury throw away some 10,000 abandoned tents at the end of events each year. For his final year project at the University of the West of England, James Dunlop came up with a material that can be recycled. And to cope with the British summer, the cardboard has been made waterproof. ‎ Taking inspiration from a Japanese architect, who has used cardboard to make big buildings including churches, Mr. Dunlop used cardboard material for his tents, which he called Myhabs.‎ The design won an award at the annual New Designers Exhibition after Mr. Dunlop graduated from his product design degree and he decided to try to turn it into a business.‎ To raise money for the idea, he toured the city’s private companies which fund new business and found a supporter in the finance group Mint. He introduced his idea to four of Mint’s directors and won their support. Mint has committed around £500,000 to MyHabs and taken a share of 30 percent in Mr. Dunlop’s business. The first Myhabs should be tested at festivals this summer, before being marketed fully next year.‎ Mr. Dunlop said that the design, which accommodates two people, could have other uses, such as for disaster relief and housing for the London Olympics.‎ For music events, the cardboard houses will be ordered online and put up at the sites by the Myhabs team before the festival-goers arrive and removed by the company afterwards. They can be personalized and the company will offer reductions on the expense if people agree to sell exterior (外部的) advertising space. ‎ The biggest festivals attract tens of thousands of participants, with Glastonbury having some 150,000 each year. Altogether there are around 100 annual music festivals where people camp in the UK. The events are becoming increasingly environmentally conscious.‎ ‎32. “Eco-friendly tents” in paragraph 1 refer to tents _______.‎ A. favorable to the environment B. economically desirable ‎ C. for holding music performances D. designed for disaster relief ‎33. This helps us decide what to wear. 36 . We want our food to be a certain coldness in the refrigerator. We want it a certain hotness in the oven. If we don’t feel well, we use a thermometer to see if we have a fever. We keep our rooms a certain warmth in the winter and a certain coolness in the summer.‎ Not all the thermometers use the same system to measure temperature. We use a system called the Fahrenheit scale. But most other countries use the Centigrade scale.‎ Both systems use the freezing and boiling points of water as their guide. 37 .‎ The most common kind of thermometer is made with mercury(水银)inside a clear glass tube. As mercury (or any other liquid) becomes hot, it expands. As it gets colder, it contracts(收缩). That is why on hot days the mercury line is high in the glass tube. 38 .‎ First, take a clear glass juice bottle that has a cap; fill the bottle with coloured water. Tap a hole in the center of the cap using a hammer and thick nail. Put the cap on the jar. Then stick a plastic straw (吸管) through the nail hole.‎ ‎ 39 .‎ Finally, place a white card on the outside of the bottle and behind the straw. Now you can see the water level easily.‎ ‎ 40 .‎ As the temperature goes down, the water will contract, and the level in the straw will come down. Perhaps you will want to keep a record of the water level in the straw each morning for a week.‎ A. People use thermometers which are made by themselves when travelling around the world.‎ B. Take wax (you may use an old candle if you have one) and melt some of it right where the straw is struck into the cap to seal (把……粘住) them together.‎ C. They label these in different ways. On the Fahrenheit scale water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees. On the Celsius scale water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100degrees.‎ D. The water will rise in the straw. As the temperature of the air goes up, the water will expand and ‎ rise even higher.‎ E. Now that you know this rule you can make a thermometer of your own that will work.‎ F. Thermometers measure temperature, by using materials that change in the same way when they are heated or cooled.‎ G. We use and depend on thermometers to measure the temperature of many other things in our daily lives.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ On August 26, 1999, New York City was struck by a terrible rainstorm.
