It has been demonstrated (证实) that rats will, when given a choice over a period of time, prefer water with vitamins to water without vitamins, even though there is no difference in taste or smell between the two water bottles. When a fragrant flavor (香味) was added to the vitamin—enriched liquid, the rats did seem to develop a taste for it and kept drinking it, even after the vitamins were switched to the clear water. In time, however, they broke the habit and went back to where the necessary vitamins were.‎ In an experiment, babies of 6 to 12 months old were placed in a cafeteria (自助食堂) with a wide selection of baby food before them. They were given whatever food they pointed to or appeared interested in. We are told that at first they showed some unusual eating patterns, but over a period of time they managed to select a ‎ well-balanced diet (饮食). ‎ So, in selecting food, rats and babies do seem to know and act on what's best for them. Clearly, there is a kind of "body wisdom" which humans soon lose. Most of us do not eat as wisely as we could. Many of our food preferences are culturally determined and influenced (影响) by long-established habits. Some people eat fox, dog and blackbirds, while we eat cows and pigs. So what people eat and how much they eat seems to be greatly influenced by what is going on around them. ‎ ‎12. In the experiment on rats, a fragrant flavor was added to the rat's drinking water to___.‎ A. encourage rats to drink it ‎ B. find out what kind of flavor rats prefer ‎ C. test whether rats know which drink is with fragrant flavor ‎ D. demonstrate that vitamins are tasteless ‎ ‎13. The expression "the habit" in the first paragraph refers to drinking water which _____. ‎ A. has no smell B. is tasteless C. has vitamins D. is flavored ‎ ‎14. As far as their eating habits are concerned, babies and rats are similar because _____. ‎ A. both have the wisdom to choose a balanced diet ‎ B. both prefer flavored food and drink ‎ C. both have the same eating patterns ‎ D. both develop a taste for the same kinds of flavors ‎ ‎15. According to the passage, adults' (成年人) eating habits differ from those of babies because ____________. ‎ A. adults know better than babies what kinds of food are good for their health ‎ B. adults usually cannot resist the temptation of various delicious foods ‎ C. adults' eating habits are closely related to the social and cultural customs ‎ D. adults have more choices of food than babies in eating patterns E Color is fundamental in home design——something you’ll always have in every room. A grasp of how to manage color in your spaces is one of the first steps to creating rooms you’ll love to live in. Do you want a room that’s full of life? Professional? Or are you just looking for a place to relax after a long day? 16 , color is the key to making a room feel the way you want it to feel.‎ Over the years, there have been a number of different techniques to help designers approach this important point. 17 , they can get a little complex. But good news is that there’re really only three kinds of decisions you need to make about color in your home: the small ones, the medium ones, and the large ones.‎ ‎18 . They’re the little spots of color like throw pillows, mirrors and baskets that most of us use to add visual interest to our rooms. Less tiring than painting your walls and less expensive than buying a colorful sofa, small color choices bring with them ‎ the significant benefit of being easily changeable.‎ Medium color choices are generally furniture pieces such as sofas, dinner tables or bookshelves 19 . They require a bigger commitment than smaller ones, and they have a more powerful effect on the feeling of a space.‎ The large color decisions in your rooms concern the walls, ceilings, and floors. Whether you’re looking at wallpaper or paint, the time, effort and relative expense put into it are significant. 20 .‎ A. While all of them are useful B. Whatever you’re looking for C. If you’re experimenting with a color D. Small color choices are the ones we’re most familiar with E. It’s not really a good idea to use too many small color pieces F. So it pays to be sure, because you want to get it right the first time G. Color choices in this range are a step up from the small ones in two major ways 第三部分 语言知识运用 第一节 完形填空(每小题1.5分,共60分)‎ A Ella Fant was a middle-aged lady who lived with her only son John in a small house.
