英语卷·2017届河北省定州中学高三下学期周练(5-7)(2017-05)

河北定州中学2016-2017学年第二学期 高三英语周练试题(5.7)‎ 一、阅读理解 As any homemaker who has tried to keep order at the dinner table knows, there is far more to a family meal than food. Sociologist Michael Lewis has been studying 50 families to find out just how much more.‎ Lewis and his co-workers carried out their study by videotaping(录像) the families while they ate ordinary meals in their own homes. They found that parents with small families talk actively with each other and their children. But as the number of children gets larger, conversation gives way to the parents’ efforts to control the loud noise they make. That can have an important effect on the children. “In general the more question-asking the parents do, the higher the children’s IQ scores,” Lewis says. “And the more children there are, the less question-asking there is.”‎ The study also provides an explanation for why middle children often seem to have a harder time in life than their siblings(兄弟姐妹). Lewis found that in families with three or four children, dinner conversation is likely to center on the oldest child, who has the most to talk about, and the youngest, who needs the most attention. “Middle children are invisible,” says Lewis. “When you see someone get up from the table and walk around during dinner, chances are it’s the middle child.” There is, however, one thing that stops all conversation and prevents anyone from having attention “When the TV is on,” Lewis says, “dinner is a non-event.”‎ ‎1..The writer’s purpose in writing the text is to _________.‎ A. report on the findings of a study B. teach parents ways to keep order at the dinner table C. show the relationship between parents and children D. give information about family problems ‎2..Parents with large families ask fewer questions at dinner because ____________.‎ A. they are busy serving food to their children B. they are tired out having prepared food for the whole family C. they have to pay more attention to younger children D. they are busy keeping order at the dinner table ‎3..By saying “Middle children are invisible” in paragraph 3, Lewis means that middle children ______.‎ A. have to help their parents to serve dinner B. find it hard to keep up with other children C. are often kept away from the dinner table D. get the least attention from the family ‎4..Lewis’ research provides an answer to the question _________.‎ A. why TV is important in family life B. why middle children seem to have more difficulties in life C. why children in small families seem to be quieter D. why parents should keep good order ‎5..Which of the following statements would the writer agree to?‎ A. Parents should talk to each of their children frequently.‎ B. It is a good idea to have the TV on during dinner.‎ C. It is important to have the right food for children.‎ D. Elder children should help the younger ones at dinner ‎ ‎ You probably know you should say “please” and “thank you” at restaurants. You probably know the rules of a library. You know you should respect and be nice to your classmates. But do you have music manners?‎ Keep It Down! You have to notice the volume of your music. You should not play your music so loud that everyone around you can hear it. Some people might even get angry. Usually, when you play the music loud on an MP3 player, other people can’t hear the words of the song. They just hear a loud sound. No one wants to listen to this. Very loud music can also be bad for your ears. So even if you are alone when listening to our MP3 players, you shouldn’t turn it up too high.‎ Take Them Off! You need to know when to turn your MP3 off and put it away. Libraries, and schools don’t allow MP3 players. There are other places, like museums, that don’t have rules, but it would be rude to have your MP3 player on. Sometimes, it doesn’t make sense to listen on your MP3 player at event. Why would you listen to music at a play, a movie or a sporting event? You would miss what is going on and others would wonder why you even came.‎ Take One Out! Once in a while it’s okay just to take out one earphone and not other. Imagine you are listening on your MP3 player when someone asks you the way. It would not be rude to take out one earphone, tell him the way, and put back the earphone and continue listening. You can also do this when you order food at a fast-food restaurant or when you answer the telephone and it’s not for you.‎ It’s Your Choice! There are times when you need to decide what is best. For example, some people can listen to music on their MP3 players when reading books, while others think it is disturbing. In cases like this, you need to do what seems right for you.‎ ‎6.The underlined word “volume” in Paragraph Two probably means “_________.”‎ A. the type of music B. the amount of a sound C. the length of a song D. the colour of an MP3 player ‎ ‎7.No one wants to listen to_________from others’ MP3 players.‎ A. a loud sound B. sad stories ‎ ‎ C. a long movie D. the words of a song ‎43. We should turn down the music when we are alone because loud music_________.‎ A. is not enjoyable B. makes us tired ‎ C. is bad for MP3 players D. hurts our ears ‎8. If we listen to our MP3 player at a play, _________.‎ A. the theatre won’t allow it B. the actors will get angry C. others won’t hear the play well D. we will miss part of the play ‎9.We can take one earphone out when we _________.‎ A. show others the way B. talk to friends on the phone C. watch a sporting event D. have dinner with our parents ‎ ‎ If your job requires a lot of sitting, you could be putting your health at danger.‎ The American Journal of Epidemiology (流行病学) did a study in 2010 on the correlation (相互联系) between sitting and an individual's physical health. In the study, 53,440 working men and ‎ 69,776 working women were surveyed on their time spent sitting. The subjects were all disease free when employed. The researchers identified 11,307 deaths in men and 7,923 deaths in women during the 14-year follow-up.‎ The findings: Women who reported sitting for more than six hours per day had an approximately 40 higher all-cause death rate than those who reported less than three hours a day, and men had an approximately 20 higher death rate.‎ Well, now's a fine time to get this information. But why didn't they tell me this years ago? I would have planned on taking a more active job instead of the sedentary (坐着的) job of an editor.‎ So what can you do if you have to work for a living at a job that requires a lot of sitting? Here are some ideas:‎ Take frequent breaks. It is recommended that workers vary activities, change their position, and take short breaks every 20 minutes to rest muscles and increase blood circulation. Get a standing desk. Some studies have shown that working from an upright position may be better for health. The serious fitness people can even purchase a treadmill (跑步机) desk. It only goes about one mile per hour. Have a walking meeting. If your group is kind of small, going for a walk while discussing topics is a good alternative.‎ ‎10.According to the text, the study in 2010 ______.‎ A. found men reporting shorter sitting time than women B. surveyed more men than women on their daily sitting time C. identified fewer deaths in men than in women during the 14-year follow-up D. discovered correlation between sitting and physical health in men and in women ‎11.We can infer from the text that the author did not recommend ______.‎ A. using a standing desk B. resting one's muscles C. quitting sedentary jobs D. taking a walk while discussing ‎12.What does the underlined word "subjects" in Paragraph 2 mean?‎ A. Now I’d like to share my view on traveling with you.‎ ‎ In my opinion, traveling is a very good activity. When you get tired with your work or study and you have free time, you can go out to enjoy the beauty of nature, where you can breathe fresh air and make new friends. As a result, traveling will help you to relax yourself as well as build up your body.‎ In order to have a pleasant journey, you’d better have clear information about the weather, bring proper clothes, a camera, some medicine for common injuries or diseases and so on. Besides on your journey, you must pay attention to what you eat and your safety.‎ Do you agree with me? Wish you a good journey.‎ Yours, ‎ WangMing ‎【解析】试题分析:考查提纲类短文写作。 I am glad to hear that you are going to travel.句中使用宾语从句;In my opinion, traveling is a very good activity.动名词做主语;When you get tired with your work or study and you have free time, you can go out to enjoy the beauty of nature, where you can breathe fresh air and make new friends.
