My mother didn’t like me going for this weekend to my friend’s house in the mountains. “I trust you, but I don’t trust the people out there,” she said seriously. “I’m going to be fine,” were my last words before closing the door of the Jeep. The vehicle went along the dusty road and my mother grew smaller in the distance. The trip over the rough road was uncomfortable. It was scary to climb the steep hills surrounded by great pines. After a long trip we finally arrived at the house. From the moment I got there I knew I would forever love the house. It was decorated like an old country home. My room was small, yet set up nicely. That night I went to sleep early, not because I didn’t want to continue my search, but because I was tired after the long trip. In the morning, the singing of the birds woke me up. The light was just getting through the window. A strong smell of baking and fresh coffee came from the kitchen. I wandered around looking for a living soul, but the house was empty. I had the whole day to myself; my friend had gone hiking. I didn’t want to go with her. The main reason for this trip was to spend some time alone to think about the events happening in my life. After an icy shower, my energies were at their fullest. With basket in hand, I started my hunt. I did not mind walking alone; it was a wonderful feeling to be in contact with nature for the first time. The sound of the water running through the rocks gave me great peace. I never felt such independence in my soul before. 【小题1】 According to the first paragraph, we can know that________. For the business traveler who is all about efficiency: Check out these hotels that will get you in and out with a minimum of trouble. When you are pressed for time on a business trip, nothing can infuriate you more than a slow hotel check-in process. On your next trip, try these hotels that offer a speedier check-in process. 1. Yotel New York The self-service kiosks at this high-tech New York hotel work just like the ones you’d see at an airport. There are just five-steps to register and obtain your card key. There is even a robotic luggage bellboy. You tap in the number of bags you are carrying and sizes, then wait for a robot arm to swing down and store your luggage in a locker (say, for a day trip). This also speeds up the check-in process if the first thing you need to do, like me, is head to a series of meetings. 2. Marriott Detroit Airport Another option for business travelers in a hurry: Marriott is rolling out its mobile check-in app to 325 hotels this year, including the Marriott Detroit Airport hotel. (I’ve tested the app itself but not for a real visit quite yet.) Here is the basic idea: you download the iphone or Android app. The night before, you can “check-in” virtually. When you arrive, you get an alert that the room is ready and your key, which is already tied to your reservation, is waiting for you at the desk. 3. Hyatt Regency Minneapolis I happened to stay at this hotel recently and liked how fast the kiosk check-in works. Like the Yotel, the kiosk asks you to insert your credit card, similar to an airport terminal. The whole process took about three minutes, when I left, I was equally impressed with the fast check-out. An agent meets you in the lobby with an ipad and asks for an email to use for a receipt. The big advantage: you never have to wait in line. 4. Radisson: LaCrosse The Radisson is trying to make the kiosk process even faster, at a few select hotels like the Radisson Lacrosse in Wisconsin, you use a mobile app to register and then receive a barcode by email or text. When you get the kiosk, you scan the barcode to get your key without any other steps required. It’s super fast. You can find this new check-in system at the Radisson hotels in Salt Lake City, Seattle, and Phoenix as well. 22.What does the word “infuriate” in paragraph 2 most mean? A. annoy B. remind C. amuse D. impress 23.Which two hotels offer a mobile app for customers to check in? A. Yotel New York and Marriott Detroit Airport. B. Marriott Detroit Airport and Radisson: LaCrosse. C. Marriott Detroit Airport. and Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. D. Hyatt Regency Minneapolis and Radisson: LaCrosse. 24.Which hotel will send you a receipt by email? A. Yotel New York. B. Marriott Detroit Airport. C. Radisson: LaCrosse. D. Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. 25.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. At Yotel New York, a robot will help you with all the check-in process. B. With its check-in app, you may enter your room in Marriott without a key. C. The barcode you receive from Radisson contributes to the fast check-in. D. Hyatt Regency Minneapolis is close to an airport terminal. 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中(A、B、C和D),选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 "Tear'em apart ! ""Kill the fool! Murder the referee(裁判)!” These are common remarks one may hear at various sporting events. At the time they are made, they may seem innocent enough. But let's not kid ourselves. They have been known to influence behavior in such a way as to lead to real bloodshed. Volumes have been written about the way words affect us.It has been shown that words having certain connotation(涵义)may cause us to react in ways quite foreign to what we consider to be our usual humanistic behavior.I see the term “opponent” as one of those words.Perhaps the time has come to delete(删除) it from sports terrors. The dictionary meaning of the term "opponent" is "enemy"; "one who opposes your interests." Thus, when a player meets an opponent, he or she may tend to treat that opponent as an enemy. At such times, winning may be the most important, and every action, no matter how rude, may be considered acceptable.I remember an incident in a handball game when a referee refused a player's request for a time out for a glove change because he did not consider them wet enough. The player started to rub his gloves across his wet T-shirt and then shouted, "Are they wet enough now?" In the heat of battle players have been observed to throw themselves across the court without considering the consequences(后果) that such a move might have on anyone in their way.I have also seen a player reacting to his opponent's intentional and illegal blocking by deliberately(故意地) hitting him with the ball as hard as he could during the play.Off the court, they are good friends.Does that make any sense? It certainly gives proof of a court attitude which goes against normal behavior. Therefore, I believe it is time we elevated(提升)the game to the level where it belongs, thereby setting an example to the rest of the sporting worlD. Replacing the term "opponent" with "associate" could be an ideal way to start. The dictionary meaning of the term "associate" is" colleague", "friend", "companion".Think about it! You may soon see and possibly feel the difference in your reaction to the term "associate" rather than "opponent". 26.Which of the following statements best expresses the author's view? A. Aggressive behavior in sports can have serious consequences. B. The words people use can influence their behavior. C. Unpleasant words in Sports are often used by foreign athletes. D. Unfair judgments by referees will lead to violence on the sports field. 27.Harsh words are spoken during games because the players _______. A. are too eager to win B. are usually short-tempered and easily offended C. cannot afford to be polite in fierce competition D. treat their rivals(对手) as enemies 28.What did the handball player do when he was not allowed a time out to change his gloves? A. He refused to continue the game. B. He angrily hit the referee with a ball. C. He claimed that the referee was unfair. D. He wet his gloves by rubbing them across his T-shirt. 29.The author hopes to have the current situation in sports improved by _______. A. calling on players to use clean language on the court B. raising the referee's sense of responsibility C. changing the attitude of players on the sports field D. regulating the relationship between players and referees Bethany Meilani Hamilton was born on February 8, 1990 Kauai, Hawaii, where she grew up with two older brothers. Hamilton's parents were both surfers and they started teaching Bethany how to surf at a young age, and she learned quickly with the support of her brothers. By age 8, Bethany was winning first place in surfing contests for her age group. Hamilton began competing more seriously at the age of nine, winning several more competitions in her age group. On October 31, 2003, while surfing with friends near Tunnels Beach, a 14-foot tiger shark attacked her. Bethany said, "My arm was hanging in the water, and it just came and bit me. It kind of pulled me back and forth. But I just held onto my board and then the shark let go." The shark tore off Bethany's left arm just below her shoulder. Hamilton's friends rushed her to the hospital. Bethany made it through several surgeries without infection (感染), and miraculously survived even though she had lost almost 60% of her blood. The doctor said that her athletic training helped her to survive the attack and blood loss. While she was healing, Bethany thought for a while that she might not surf again. She was concerned that it would be much harder to stand up on the board using only one hand and that her balance would be completely off. But with hard work and determination she returned to surfing. She says, "It's hard for me to describe the joy I felt after I stood up and rode a wave in for the first time after the attack. I was greatly thankful and happy inside. The tiny bit of doubt that would sometimes tell me 'you'll never surf again' was gone in one wave !" As for fear of another shark attack, Bethany says that sometimes her heart pounds when she sees a shadow (阴影) under the water. But she believes that faith provides hope and a future for those who feel down and defeated in their lives. Bethany's popularity and hope for the future led her to partner with World Vision to create "Surfing for Children in Crisis". Bethany hopes that her involvement in the campaign will help provide disabled children from around the world with care, support, and hope. 30.Who taught Bethany surfing when she was very young? A. Even the heavy rain in the morning could not prevent us going. Set off very early, we went along an extreme narrow road, all in high spirits. On every side of the road was green fields and some farm houses. We could hear the sound of the rain and our footsteps mixing with our laughter. At noon we reached the top of the mountain. That surprised us most there was the beauty of scenes. After having short rest there and sharing with the food we had brought, we started going down. It rained even harder.
