A Walt Disney is trying to make parents'wallets open a little wider for that vacation visit to the theme park. The Magic Kingdom Park, one of Disney's theme parks near Orlando is now charging $99 for a one-day park pass. It is an increase of 4 that comes just eight months after the last price increase. Behind the rising tickets prices is a small world of supply and demand. People keep flooding into Disney’s US theme parks. The company reported a 16 percent increase operating income,to$65 million, for the past three months at its theme parks. Last year in Disney, theme park income rose by 17 percent, to $2.2 billion. "If you think Disney World has got too expensive, don 't bother complaining,” Robert Niles, editor of Theme Park Insider, and a former Magic Kingdom Park employee, wrote in his website."Disney is looking at the number people who visit its theme parks when setting prices, not people complaining online. Disney's pricing strategy is designed to drive sales of its multiday(多天的)park passes, which lower the per-day cost. A three-day pass runs to $91.34 per day; a five-day pass costs $60.80 per day. Together with the hotel and meals, a Disney vacation can become unbelievably expensive for a family. But while the cost of single-day tickets has gone up by more than 41 percent since 2005, Disney has greatly cut the price for longer stays. The price of a four-day pass fell by nearly $200 between 2004 and 2013. Still, an extra $4 or $20 here and there does not bother most people considering a trip to Disney theme park. "Disney is one of the major things nearly every American family can agree on, so of course they can get away with this.” says Jason Cochran, author of Easy Guide to Walt Disney World and Orlando. 21. What do we know about the one-day park pass in Magic Kingdom Park? A. It was $95 in the past eight months. B. It usually increases by $4 each time. C. It is the last time to increase it. D. It usually changes once a year. 22. According to Robert Niles, when setting prices, Disney mainly considers ___________. A. how great its service can be. B. whether people can accept them or not. C. whether people will complain about them. D. how many people visit its theme parks. 23. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the price increases will ____________. A. not make the Disney theme parks become more popular. B. not prevent people from visiting the Disney theme parks. C. bother most people from visiting the Disney theme parks. D. make it hard for people to decide whether to visit a Disney theme park. B A young sperm whale discovered dead off the coast of Spain died from eating a lot of rubbish. About 64 pounds of rubbish, including plastic bags, ropes and fishing nets, was found inside the sperm whale's dead body. The 32-foot-long whale was discovered near the small holiday place of Cabo de Palos in the southeast Murcia area in February. Officials at the EI Valle Wildlife Reserve Center found that it had died because it was unable to remove the rubbish from its body. The animal's sad death has prompted Murcia's government alongside the European Environmental Association and the European Fund Regional Development, to start some actions against ocean waste. Consuelo Rosauro, the government's director for the natural environment, said, "The plastics in seas and oceans are one of the biggest dangers to the protection of wildlife in the world. ""Many animals get caught in the rubbish or eat a lot of plastics, which end up causing their death, she added. "The problem is common in the Murcia area, and we must solve it by taking clean-up actions and, above all, increasing awareness of local people. About 19 billion pounds of plastic waste ends up in the world's oceans each year. Researchers say that the amount of plastic waste will be twice as much as it is now by 2025 if quick action is not taken. The sperm whales are the largest of the toothed whales and the largest predators(食肉动物) They will move seasonally for feeding and giving birth. They are fond of living together, and even 300 sperm whales live in a group. The females work together to protect and look after their young. Females give birth every four to twenty years and care for the young ones for more than ten years. A grown sperm whale has few natural enemies But it does not mean they are totally safe. At least they face the problem of rubbish now. 24. Why did that sperm whale die? A. Because it could not find food. B. Because it was already too old. C. Because it had eaten too much rubbish. D. Because it could not leave the rubbish around it. 25. What can we learn from Consuelo Rosauro's words? A. The protection of wildlife is very hard. B. The locals'awareness of protecting wildlife should be raised. C. Local people have thrown much rubbish in seas D. There are many actions dealing with rubbish in seas. 26. The passage mainly shows that A. Sperm whales can die easily. B. People really care about wildlife. C. A lot of wildlife is in danger now. D. Pollution in seas and oceans harms wildlife. C Throughout history, people have always been surprised at the intelligence of some birds. Crows(乌鸦)are such an example. Crows' brain is only about the size of a human thumb, so how smart could they be? While a crow's brain may seem small compared with a human brain, what matters is the size of the brain in relation to the size of the animal. According to Professor John Marzluff at the University of Washington's Aviation Conservation Lab, a crow is actually a flying monkey. Whether it is a friendly monkey or more like a bad one in The Wizard of Oz depends a lot on what you have done to it (or any of its friends). Can you tell one crow from another? In this way, a crow may be smarter than you because it can recognize human faces. Marzluff's team caught some crows, made marks on them and released them. Members of the team wore different masks. Crows would attack people wearing a mask, but only if the mask had been worn by someone who had troubled them. If you think two crows that are watching you and crying to each other are talking about you, you are probably right. In Marzluff's study, even crows that were never caught attacked scientists. How did the crows describe their attackers to other crows? Their communication is poorly understood. The intensity(强度), rhythm, and lasting time of crying seem to form the basis of a possible language. It turns out that crows can pass on anger to their children-even the little crows attacked masked scientists. Another case about crows'great memory comes from Chatham, Ontarrio. Around half a million crows would stop in Chatham during their regular travel, putting the farming community's crops in danger. Head of the town declared war(宣战)on crows and the hunt began. Since then, the crows have, when passing Chatham, flown high enough to avoid being shot. However, this didn't stop them from leaving droppings all over the town. 27. Why does Professor John Marzluff call a crow a flying monkey? A. Because it looks like a monkey. B. Because it is as friendly as a monkey. C. Because it is as intelligent as a monkey. D. Because its brain is the same size as a monkey's. 28. According to Paragraph 3, the crows attacked people wearing a mask who __________. A. had caused some trouble to them B. were in Marzluff's team C. worked on scientific study D. had done harm to their babies 29. Head of the town declared war on crows because ___________. A. They would damage the crops. B. They would make much noise. C. They would attack people in the town. D. They would leave droppings all over the town. 30. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Crows never forget. B. Crows'communication. C. Crows'brain development. D. Crows are smarter than we have imagined. 第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Are you always stressed about your homework? A strange figure climbed out of the dumpster and I realized it was a man. My dad was surprised. Then he quickly walked to this strange man and kindly asked, "What are you doing there?” The man was, at first, speechless. It was almost as if he had never been spoken to before. He looked at me, just realizing I was there. I felt I should show some encouragement, so I managed to smile at him. He smiled back embarrassedly and replied to my dad, "Oh, I was just looking for a shirt that I could wear tomorrow.” My dad asked, "Why?" This strange man said, "I have a job interview tomorrow and I want to look best. "His face was covered in dirt. His hands were dirty and dry. “Oh, do you have pants to use?” My dad asked "Well, yes, I found them in a dumpster near an apartment,"the man replied. "And there has not been any luck on a shirt yet?" “Well,No.” My dad's face went from sincere to thoughtful. He selflessly asked if the man would take his shirt. The man said he shouldn't and he couldn't. "Well, can we at least buy you some food? Have you washed up? Soon it was full. Then, my dad asked me to hand the bag to the man. I did that unwillingly. How I wished it were for me! However, as I looked at the eyes of this man, I immediately regretted being so selfish. The man’s eyes watered and he was about to cry. The only two words he could say out of his mouth were “Thank you!” We said goodbye to the man and wished him good luck. We watched him walk away to sit in the corner to enjoy his “special food”. When we got into the car, my dad took off his skirt. As we drove by the man, my dad threw the skirt out of the window to him and we both shouted “Good luck!” Now every time I look back on the experience, all I can remember is the ears and the smile on that man’s face as we drove away.查看更多
