I came to the United States with my father when I was ten years old. He had family in California, so we moved here to live with them. (17) I didn’t know any English, and school was hard for me. I didn’t have any friends, either. My father was a doctor in China, but he had to work at a fish market once we got to San Francisco. I decided that I would be a doctor one day and make him proud. (18) It was pretty hard. I stayed after school every day to get help from my teacher. And I made many American friends who helped me with my English. After many years of hard work and studying, I went to college in New York City and then one of the best medical schools in Boston. (19) Now I am a doctor, and my father is very proud of me.
