B Craig Blackburn, a father and car fan, built a Batmobile for his sonƳs hope for using the vehicle to brighten the lives of sick children. And now he hopes to use it for more than just his sonƳs hope after seeing the childrenƳs reaction to the Batmobile. Based on the number of failures he had seen in car groups, he estimated that only about one in 50 attempted constructions was actually finished and he realized what an incredible opportunity he had. Mr. Blackburn started the project at the beginning of 2018 after hearing a friend in the US was doing the same thing. It started with importing an outer shell overseas, before picking brains of a friend who had a background as a worker in a car factory to gain knowledge of how to build the car. With the help of his friend, Mr. Blackburn built the Batmobile in 18 months with the cost reaching six figures. Mr. Blackburn hoped to add a flamethrower(喷火器) onto the back of the vehicle and said he had thought about building the more recent Batman Tumbler from the series film Dark Knight. Though Mr. Blackburn encountered plenty of difficulties to get over during the construction, in September 2019, the car made its first show at the Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba, before being used by BlackburnƳs son for his hope. “It was great. It was so good to see the kidsƳ and adultsƳ excitement at seeing the Batmobile. ” Mr. Blackburn said. As a result, the car lovers hope to make the car work on the roads as soon as possible, so he can visit sick children and take them out with his son. )页21共( 页4第 题试语英 24. To show off at the Carnival of Flowers in Toowoomba. 25. How did Blackburn feel about the car-making at first? A. Hopeful. B. Confused. C. Impossible. D. Unsure. 26. How did BlackburnƳs friend help him? A. By making an outer shell for him. B. By offering him financial support. C. By sharing the knowledge of building cars. D. By telling him the background of the car factory. 27. What is the car loversƳ expectation of the Batmobile? A. It will be driven soon on the roads. B. It can be displayed around the world. C. It can change the lives of sick children. D. It will appear in the next film about Batman. C Many people believe that there is one form of their language that is more correct than others. They may believe for example that British English is more correct than other varieties; or that written English is more correct than spoken English. Often this belief is supported by reference books to grammars, usage guides or dictionaries: if something goes against a rule in a grammar, or if the word isnƳt in the dictionary, it “must be wrong”. Since the reference books are most often based on observation of the standard written language, the argument is really circular: these books will naturally describe standard usage, because that is what they are for; but this does not mean that there is anything wrong with other kinds of usage that are less often described. A better way of looking at things is to say that usage is “correct in its place”. Standard American English is correct in America, and formal written grammar is employed in formal writing. So this means there is no answer to the question: “ What kind of English should )页21共( 页5第 题试语英 learners study?” It depends on their purposes. For many learners, the best model is one or other of the two main standard varieties: British or American English. Neither of these is “better” than the other, and they are both used and understood worldwide. People are also worried by language change. If younger people “ break” the rules that older people have learnt, older people often feel disturbed: they are concerned that younger people no longer know their grammar, and that the language is going downhill. This is a needless worry: change is natural and inevitable, it cannot be stopped, and it does not generally affect a languageƳs efficiency as a communicative tool. A great deal of modem English grammar would have been wrong three hundred years ago, and will perhaps be wrong again three hundred years from now. 28. What can we infer from paragraph 1? A. Learners are always confused by the reference books. B. Some wrong usages can be found in the reference books. C. Nobody can challenge the authority of the reference books. D. Usages not mentioned in the reference books are not necessarily wrong. 29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about ? A. There is no “standard English”. B. American English is better than British English. C. A learner should master all the distinctions of different English. D. The differences between British English and American English. 30. Which word can replace the underlined word “inevitable” in paragraph 3 ? A. Avoidable. B. Formal. C. Certain. D. Temporary. 31. What is the authorƳs attitude towards the changes of English? A. Disturbed. B. Optimistic. C. Cautious. D. Doubtful. D Anyone who commutes (通勤) by car knows that traffic jams are an unavoidable part of life. But humans are not alone in facing potential backups. Ants also commute—between their nest and sources of food. The survival of their habitats depends on doing this efficiently. When humans commute, thereƳs a point at which cars become dense (稠密) enough to )页21共( 页6第 题试语英 slow down the flow of traffic, causing jam. researchers wanted to know if ants on the move could also get stuck. So they regulated traffic density by constructing bridges of various widths between a colony of Argentine ants and a source of food. Then they waited and watched, trying to find out at what point they are going to have a traffic jam. But it appears that that never happened. They always managed to avoid traffic jam. The flow of ants did increase at the beginning as ants started to fill the bridge and then levelled off at high densities. But it never slowed down or stopped, even when the bridge was nearly filled with ants. The researchers then took a closer look at how the behaviour of individual ants impacted traffic as a whole. And they found that when ants sense overcrowding, they adjust their speeds and avoid entering high-density areas, which prevents jams. These behaviors may be promoted by pheromones, chemicals that tell other ants where a trail is. The ants also manage to avoid colliding (碰撞) with each other at high densities, which could really slow them down. Can ants help us solve our own traffic problems? Not likely. ThatƳs because when it comes to getting from point A to point B as fast as possible, human drivers put their own goals first. Individual ants have to be more cooperative in order to feed the colony. But the research could be useful in improving traffic flow for self-driving cars, which can be designed to be less like selfish humans—and more like ants. 32. What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. Surviving. B. Commuting. C. Finding food. D. Avoiding jams. 33. How did the researchers control the traffic density of the commuting ants? A. Through closer observation. B. By regulating their numbers. C. By finding out the dense points. D. By controlling the widths of their path. 34. How can ants avoid traffic jam according to the research? A. They follow a special route. B. They level off at high densities. C. They never stop or slow down on the way. D. They depend on their natural chemicals to adjust their speeds. 35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. Traffic jams B. Survival of an ant colony C. Unavoidable? Not for ants! D. Differences between human and ants )页21共( 页7第 题试语英 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2. 5 分,满分 12. 5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。 选项中有两项为 多余选项。 WeƳve long been taught that helping others helps ourselves. As Charles Dickens wrote, “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another. ” Science has shown that unselfish behaviors actually do improve our health. 36 It can reduce the risk for cognitive impairment(认知障碍). It can even help us live longer. 37 A 2017 study found pain sufferers who volunteered reported decreased pain along with an improved sense of purpose. A new series of studies may have found one reason. Regions of the brain that react to painful stimulation seem to instantly disappear by the experience of giving. In another study, the researchers employed cancer patients living with pain and asked them to cook and clean for themselves or for the benefit of others at their treatment center. 38 When they did the work for their own personal benefit, the pain-relieving effect was reduced by over 62%. In addition, the study found it was the meaning people gave to their good deeds that predicted how much pain the brain would perceive. Researchers believe the medicine should consider using unselfish “supplement therapies(补充疗法) to treat pain. ” 39 A reduced sense of pain combined with feel-good chemicals—it seems our brains reward us for helping others even when weƳre not expecting anything in return. 40 It is a good way to improve your health and othersƳ. A. It is true for volunteers. B. Helping others helps ourselves. C. However, more research is needed about the idea. D. It also appears that giving can help us cope with pain. E. When they were helping others, their pain levels dropped. F. Volunteering, for example, has been shown to reduce stress and improve depression. G. Sounds like a great reason to put volunteering and other giving behaviors on your to-do list. In the vast sofa shop, we feel lost, thereƳs so much choice. I held purses, cellphones and sunglasses while others threw themselves on roller coasters. I admit their bravery, but refuse to challenge my own limitations. One day when we were at the Wonderland Amusement Park in Toronto, My friends tried to get me to ride a roller coaster. But the click, click, click of the cars climbing up the tracks made me fear. The stop at the top, before falling with peopleƳs screams, seemed terrible. My friends were still trying to persuade me, and I was still saying no, when I suddenly saw a familiar face, one I had never seen outside a televisionset. It was Jennifer Capriati, a popular tennis star at the top of her game, already winning titles at the age of fourteen. She was my heroine. I pulled out a pen and the only paper that I could find and walked to her. She was weaving her way through a rope that led to a ride called the Jet Scream. I was running quickly because I didnƳt want to pass up the chance to meet her face to face, but I was also a bit nervous. You will get a good grade on it. Text 2 M: OK, have you fastened your skis? WeƳll take the first slope very slowly until you get your balance. W: I donƳt want to make a fool of myself. My husband is watching. M: ItƳs OK. Everyone has to start somewhere. Text 3 W: Oh, no. The pages I printed are coming out blank. We need to change the ink. M: I just did. ItƳs an old printer. All you have to do is turn it off, and then turn it on again. Text 4 M: Look at the work the artist has put into this picture. I heard he is famous for it. W: It is very beautiful—but expensive. You must make a good living as an art dealer. M: I was a banker before. I made twice as much. Art is my passion. Text 5 M: ArenƳt you scared of going to your car alone at night? ItƳs dangerous for young women. W: No way. IƳve been the best boxer in my classes for three years and I have wrestled for the last six years. M: You did all that and you are only 24? Text 6 W: What do you think of the lecture we just listened to together? M: I thought it was very interesting. W: Really? Did you really think so? M: Yes, didnƳt you? W: Certainly not. I thought it was complete trash, actually. M: So, you think you know more than he does. W: Well, taking coal for example, coal wonƳt be important for much longer. M: Why not? W: ItƳs too dirty. They wonƳt be able to find people working down in coal mines in the future. M: But I believe theyƳll invent new kinds of machines to solve that problem. W: The only sort of power people will use in the future is atomic energy! Text 7 M: YouƳre so jumpy and anxious. WhatƳs wrong? W: Every time I hear a baby cry, I think itƳs Annie. )页4共( 页3第 案答考参语英三高 M: But she is fast asleep in her baby bed. W: I know… M: Anyway, I didnƳt hear any noises. Did you? W: Yes! It must have come from outside on the street. It scared me. IƳm a mother of four, so even when I hear someone say “Mommy”, I turn around to respond. M: You need a vacation, dear. W: ThatƳs nice of you to say so, but I have my hands full right now. Between AllieƳs soccer practices and DavidƳs music lessons, we really donƳt have any time to take off. M: Hey, donƳt look so sad! I promise weƳll go somewhere for a couple of weeks when school ends. We can even invite your mother, too. She loves taking care of the children, and she loves to travel. Text 8 W: I canƳt believe I forgot to pick up soap again! This is the second time I went back to the supermarket to buy it and I still forgot! M: You can just borrow some of my soap for now. ItƳs the blue bottle upstairs in the bathroom. I can buy some more soap for you after I go shopping at the grocery store later. W: Thank you. I really wanted to take a shower since we were at the beach all morning. IƳm just so tired from swimming that I forget everything! IƳm so glad to be home now. M: Yeah, IƳm tired too. I think swimming at the beach is even more tiring than in a pool or a river. It was a nice drive down there, though. W: Yes, the weather was beautiful today. I was thinking of how nice it would be to take a train on a day like this. M: I never like trains actually. I think on a day like this, I would prefer to ride a motorbike. Text 9 W: The pain began when I was skiing. It was a dull pain in my back at first, but it has gotten worse now. Usually I love skiing, but that was a bad day. M: Did you lift anything heavy in the days before skiing? You may have hurt it then and not known until you started doing something stressful. W: I helped my brother move the week before. Maybe I hurt myself, lifting a sofa or a box. I think I would have felt the pain earlier, though. M: It is probably how you got hurt. IƳll schedule some tests before you go, but it is important that you take it easy until we know what happened. You should also stop in the drugstore and buy some mild pain medication. IƳll refer you to a movement doctor as well. He will show you some movements to reduce your pain. W: That would be great. I need to get back to work as soon as possible. M: It says here on the sheet that you are a ski instructor. I donƳt recommend that you continue difficult activities like skiing until we know what is wrong. W: Yes, I have been teaching ski lessons part time during the winter. I always need extra money for the holidays. My normal job is in an office though, so I have plenty of rest there. ItƳs very boring. Text 10 Happy New Year, students! We hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas, but itƳs time to get back to work. We have a lot to do between now and your summer vacation, and the first thing on the agenda is to prepare for this yearƳs performance of “The Little Mermaid”. In order for this production to work, we need everyone to help. Mrs. Blake is holding tryouts in the drama room after school. This lunch hour, we are looking for people to work on the stage crew. If you would like to be a lighting director, a stage manager, or part of the sound crew, go to the video room. Music students are encouraged to see their teacher in the band room. Art students will be responsible for creating a large ocean painting that will be used for the background. Other duties include painting furniture, making posters and other promotional material, and creating decorations. For those who volunteer their time, we will be offering a free pizza day in the gym at the end of every month. If all goes well, we will finish our preparations by the end of March. This will give Mrs. Blake and the cast a full month to practice for the performance. We are excited to offer this amazing performance right up until the last day of school in late June. Remember, if we all work together, we can achieve anything! )页4共( 页4第 案答考参语英三高查看更多
