Phyllis Logan & Elizabeth McGovern B One afternoon I was driving along the narrow dirt road. Ahead of me was a small red car with two people in the front seats. You can’t go very fast on a dirt road so I was driving carefully after it. As we did, I began to watch the car in front of me. The driver was a middle-aged man with thinning hair, and beside him sat a woman with long, wavy blond hair. I could see the man’s face because he kept turning and talking and talking to the woman, but I couldn’t see her face because she never turned to look at him and answer. As we drove along, the man turned again and again, talking to the woman. He leaned(靠) toward her and he smiled. But she sat without movement or response, staring straight ahead. She never once looked in his direction, and I wondered why. I supposed of course that they were fighting. The long blond hair suggested someone beautiful. I thought she might be too coldhearted, the way a beautiful woman can usually be. I thought that the man might be her husband, or her lover, and that he was pleading with her. I thought she was turning cold to him: perhaps she was ending things completely, and he was trying to win her back. We both slowed down to cross a little stone bridge, and once past it, on the straight, he turned again to her. I wondered then if I’d gotten it wrong. The man was definitely middle-aged, and the woman’s long, thick blond hair suggested youth. Perhaps the man was not her husband but her father. Maybe she was sitting silently still, not heartlessly. Or maybe she was weeping and unable to look at her father. I watched them closely, trying to be sure. The man turned to her, smiling. She still did not look at him. We reached the stop sign at the end of Mount Holly Road, and the man turned once more to the blond woman. This time, at last, she turned toward him. She leaned over and licked his nose with her tongue. She was a golden retriever, a large dog used in hunting. 25. The real relationship of the two sitting in the front seats of the small red car is _______. A. a husband and an angry wife B. a loving father and a weeping daughter C. a master and a big dog D. lovers in quarrel 26. We can infer from the text that______. A. the author followed the man out of curiosity at the very beginning B. the man couldn’t match the woman beside him C. the man loved the one sitting beside him very much D. the man was a good husband or a good father 27. The underlined sentence in the text means_____. A. he was begging her B. he was playing with her C. he was quarrelling with her D. he was joking with her 28. Which is the most suitable title for the text? A. A Poor Middle-aged Man B. An Unexpected Companion C. A Beautiful Proud Woman D. An Unforgettable Experience C China has more than 30 intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) recognized by the UNESCO, including paper-cutting, the Dragon Boat Festival, Peking Opera, acupuncture(针灸) and so on. The organization adopted a decision that China’s “The Twenty-Four Solar Terms”(二十四节气) should be put on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016 in Ethiopia. The Twenty-Four Solar Terms, knowledge of time and practices in agriculture, starts from the Beginning of Spring and ends with the Greater Cold, moving in cycles. It developed through thee observation of the sun’s annual movement in China. In ancient time, the method of tugui, earth sundial(日暑), was used to measure the shadow of the sun for determining the solar terms. The Twenty-Four Solar Terms came into being and developed in close relationship with Chinese agricultural production. At the initial stage of agricultural development, people began to explore the seasonal rules in the agricultural production to meet the needs in seeding, harvesting and other activities. Gradually, they formed the concept of “seed in spring, grow in summer, harvest in autumn and store in winter”. During the spring and autumn periods, the agricultural production was highly influenced by the seasonal changes, thus forming the concept of Solar Terms. As a traditional Chinese knowledge system of time with a history of thousands of years, the Twenty-Four Solar Terms clearly expresses the concepts of respect for nature, and harmony between man and nature. Created by Chinese ancestors, it has functioned as a complete set of weather calendar(日历) to guide the agricultural production in China. It has also been introduced into North Korea, Japan and other neighboring countries and still used in Japan. The Chinese heritage has provably influenced the people’s way of thinking and behaving and will continue to be an important carrier of Chinese cultural identity. 29. According to the first two paragraphs, the Twenty-Four Solar Terms______. A. was used to measure the shadow of the sun B. has not been listed as one intangible cultural heritage of humanity C. repeats from the Beginning of Spring to the Greater Cold every year D. is the best intangible cultural heritage recognized by the UNESCO 30. We can learn from the text that _______ in China in the past. A. the Twenty-Four Solar Terms only influenced spring and autumn B. the Twenty-Four Solar Terms had something to do with agriculture C. people cared about the changes of weather just for fun D. agricultural production highly influenced the seasonal changes 31. We can infer from the text that the Twenty-Four Solar Terms _______. A. is an agricultural calendar merely used in China B. is strongly influenced by North Korea and Japan C. is scarcely connected with natural reles D. is part of traditional Chinese culture D The chances are that you’ve walked past a QR Code(二维码) or come into contact with one recently, possibly without noticing. Even if you haven’t seen one before, here are some examples for you. But what exactly are QR Codes? Very simply, they are bar-codes, not too dissimilar to the bar-codes you saw on the package of almost every product you bought. QR Codes are combined with multiple rows and columns(列), which allows QR Code to stone its data. QR Codes started out in the East but their popularity exploded worldwide within a few years. They are flexible, cheap, easy to read by scanners as simple as an App on your smart phone and easy for anybody to create. The direction of reading the QR codes is not limited. Even when damaged there is a chance that they are still readable. Unlike traditional bar-codes which are 1 dimensional (using 1 row of lines), QR Codes use 2 dimensions, which allows them to store a lot more data in the same area of space. But can a picture or music be stored in a QR Code? Images and sounds consume much more data than text and a QR Code is limited to storing 3kb of data. The size of an image will need to be made so small to be stored that it will be impractical to do so. So it is with songs. In fact if you have a need to present the user with an image or kick off a music stream when they scan your QR Code, why not look to host it somewhere and then have your QR code simply linked to the content? Not only have QR Codes surely brought us great convenience, but also security concerns at the same time. For example, a QR Code may be covered by one designed by a cheater on purpose, without being recognized. You sign up entering all your account details only to find the following day someone has gained access to your account because of the information you entered in that website. 32. What do we know about QR Codes? A. They can be scanned from any direction B. They use 1 row of lines to store data. C. They are readable when damaged. D. They are flexible but not cheap. 33. Which is one big drawback of QR Codes? A. A QR Code can be linked to somewhere else. B. QR Codes cannot be used to present a picture. C. A QR Code can store data of no more than 3kb. D. QR Codes can only be read with an app on your smart phone. 34. From the text we can infer that _______. A. traditional bar-codes have an advantage over QR codes in storing data B. we had better pay attention to the security when using QR codes C. it makes sense to store a song of a picture in a QR code D. QR Codes are so dangerous that they are not worth using 35. The text mainly talks about______. A. the use of QR Codes B. the disadvantages of QR Codes C. the advantages of QR Codes D. the formation of QR Codes 第二节(共5小题;没小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Have you ever considered volunteering? It gives you a chance to give back. You’ll feel a sense of pride that you are volunteering your time, and a local organization will benefit, too. But how to volunteer? Follow the three steps before you enjoy it. Pick an organization. 36 You’re likely to be happier and volunteer longer at an organization that supports a cause you care about. For example, if you’re interested in animal welfare, maybe you want to volunteer at an animal shelter. Much like job search sites, you can also use volunteer websites like Volunteer Match or Serve.gov to help you find volunteer opportunities in your area. If you still can’t narrow down where you want to volunteer, start asking people you know where they volunteer. 37 Be clear what you can offer. First identify your skills. For example, maybe you could write brochures for local nonprofits if writing is your style. 38 You need to be sure how much time you can give to an organization based on your other commitments. If you try to do too much, you ‘re more likely to give up. 39 Treat the application like a job. Spend some time preparing for the interview, much as you would for a job interview. 40 Ask what’s expected of volunteers. For instance, volunteers at a museum may be expected to learn parts of the galleries to give tours. Start volunteering slowly. That is, it’s better to commit to just a little bit of time at first to see if you like volunteering at the organization. A. Apply and get started. B. Volunteer in person or online. C. Then don’t forget to review your weekly schedule. A. You’d better focus on the causes you like very much. B. You may find one of them has the perfect opportunity for you. C. It is also a time for you to assess whether the organization is fit for you. D. Text 7 M: I think it's about time I held a dinner party. What do you think? W: What do I think? Well, you have only four dining chairs, and one of them has a broken leg. M: True, but I could have a barbeque.[8] Even the word makes your mouth water. Tasty beef, fresh juice, lots of cold beer, and a big bowl of salad. It's so easy. As for my so-called broken chair, everyone can sit on the grass. W: I've been to one of your barbeques. It's not a bad idea. And what are you going to serve the vegetarians? M: That's easy. I won't invite them. There's only one problem. It might rain.[9] Text 8 M: What can I do for you? W: I got a flat on the highway.[10] I put on the spare tire. Could you take a look at it for me? M: There is still something wrong? W: Can you get me a new tire? M: Let's see. 275 R15. I think we keep these in stock. W: How soon do you think you could get to it? M: Well, we're pretty busy now. I could have it ready in about an hour and a half. W: Oh. I'm from out of town and I have quite a long drive ahead of me. M: How far do you have to go? W: About 45 miles.[11] M: You know, I think that spare tire can get you at least that far.[12] W: Do you think so? M: Sure. Text 9 W: What's wrong with you? You look pale. M: I'm not sure. I feel hot and cold.[13] W: When did the trouble start? M: I was sick most of the night.[14] W: It sounds like you are coming down with flu. Let me take your temperature. M: Have I got a high fever? W: Yes, thirty-eight point seven. Do you have a headache, a chest pain or a sore throat? M: Yes, I have. W: Now, let me have a look at you. I'd like to listen to your chest. Now breathe in, a deep breath, that's it. Cough, now again. I want to examine your throat, too. Open your mouth wide, say ‘Ah...’[15] M: Ah... W: Yes, it looks a bit sore. Let's take an X-ray of your chest and give you a few tests. M: All right, thanks. W: The tests showed nothing wrong. A slight viral infection. M: What shall I do today? W: I'll give you some medicine. You should go home and rest in bed for two days. Drink plenty of water, and then you'll feel better.[16] Text 10 M: Once upon a time, in the state of Song, there lived a man who kept monkeys.[17] He was very fond of monkeys and kept a large number of them. He could understand the monkeys and they could also understand him. He reduced the amount of food for his own family in order to satisfy the monkeys' demands.[18] His family did not have enough to eat, so he wanted to limit the food for the monkeys.[19] But he was afraid that the monkeys would attack him. Before doing that he played a trick on them. “If I give you three nuts in the morning and four in the evening, would that be enough?” he asked the monkeys. All the monkeys rose up angrily. After a while, he said, “If I give you four nuts in the morning and three in the evening, would that be enough?” All the monkeys lay on the floor, very happy with this proposal. [20]查看更多
