课时作业 十八 模块3 Unit 3 Back to the past2 建议时间 / 40分钟 Ⅰ.阅读理解 A 词数:358 主题:动漫 文体:说明文 Comic con (which is short for comic convention) is an event where fans gather to share and celebrate their love for comic-related pop culture. The first comic book convention was held in the USA in the 1960s and since then comic book conventions have become extremely popular all over the world, with some of the bigger events drawing crowds of over 100,000 people and lasting several days. Nowadays there is much more than just comic books on show at a comic con. The most popular events have expanded to include many other types of media and art forms, for example anime, manga, sci-fi, video games and TV series. One of the highlights of a comic con for many fans is the ability to interact(互动)with celebrities of the industry as many artists, writers, actors and directors appear as special guests—like the headliners of a music festival! These special guests sign autographs(亲笔签名), pose for photos with fans and hold question and answer sessions. Sometimes the fans will queue for several hours to meet these special guests! Of course there is a lot of merchandise on sale at a comic con. From comic books to posters and T-shirts to toys, the options are endless but there is one thing in particular that sets comic cons apart from ordinary trade fairs and that is cosplay. Cosplay is the name given to dressing up as your favourite characters from comics, TV and other genres represented at comic cons and it has become common for many fans at comic cons to do this. Many people build their own costumes and some of them are very elaborate. Cosplaying has become an important part of comic cons all over the world and there are even competitions for the best cosplay! Going to a comic con is like stepping into another world full of superheroes, time travellers, monsters and robots—you can really find them all at a comic con! B 词数:289 主题:周日烤肉 文体:说明文 Ask people in the UK what the words “Sunday roast” mean to them, and they'll probably take you back to their grandmothers' dining rooms—maybe with a few stories of “the greatest puddings” and “the best ever steak”. But now the traditional Sunday roast seems to have been left back in the old days. According to the Daily Mail, just one in 50 British families sits down to this weekly meal together. There are many reasons why the roast is becoming less popular. In the busy modern world, where breakfast is a slice of toast eaten on the way to work or school and lunch is a quick sandwich in front of the computer screen, people just don't seem to have the time or patience to make a roast. And Sunday was once a day when people could easily go to the kitchen to cook. Nowadays, people are often out shopping or at the cinema until it's far too late to start thinking about heating the oven(烤箱) up. However, a recent article from The Telegraph warned against being carried away by our tight schedules: “It would be a shame to let this fine old tradition disappear.” The Guardian further explained that the eating of the big meal is only the half of it. The Sunday roast also makes for relaxed morning activities in the kitchen, and the table becomes the perfect place to share good food and chat with family and friends. “For busy mums and dads, even if you can manage to turn off your mobile phone and the TV only once a week and turn the Sunday roast into a real family event, children can have fun cooking the food and clearing up together.” 5. The best title for the passage is probably “ ”. A.Sunday—best time for family B.Sunday roast dying out C.It's the perfect time for us D.Let's sit down together 6. Why do people pay less attention to the Sunday roast? A.They have a busy lifestyle. B.They have no interest in cooking. C.They don't think it worthwhile. D.They are living in the modern society. 7. What does the underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refer to? A.A recent article. B.A traditional kitchen. C.The fine old tradition. D.Sunday morning activity. 8. How does the author feel towards Sunday roast's dying out? A.Doubtful. B.Positive. C.Sorry. D.Uncertain. Ⅱ.阅读七选五 Art is for everyone and it exists everywhere. When it comes to appreciating an art painting, there is no right or wrong way. 9 Know the artist. To know the artist is the first step towards appreciating any art painting. 10 Once you get familiar with the paintings from a particular artist, you will start relating to his unique style. 11 This is really tough. There are different styles and types of art mediums—realism, surrealism, and Impressionism, to name but a few. So for beginners, it's advisable to keep things simple. Try to understand if the art you see is a watercolour, oil painting or acrylic(丙烯酸颜料) or sketch(速写) on paper. You also need to figure out the styles of the work—figurative(形象的) or abstract. Try and find a meaning. To read between lines and colours and understand what the artist means can be very difficult. 12 So here's a simple guide. Figurative paintings are easy because they are an honest description of emotions on the canvas(油画布). Still, it doesn't mean your understanding is the same as the artist's. Abstracts attempt to create magic with shapes, lines and colours and their meaning is different for everyone who sees them. Search for emotions. Not every work of art will catch your eye or emotions at first sight. 13 Explore the artwork with your eyes. Once you are aware of these things, you will be able to break the ice with art. A.Discover your taste and styles. B.Know the type of art and medium used. C.Some of these artworks will take time to reach you. D.You just might find that art changes the way you see the world. E.Learning something about the artist adds to the appreciation of art. F.A simple art painting might be understood otherwise for different people. G.The following ideas may help you join in the conversation between you and the artist. Ⅲ.短文改错 Dear Joy, How are you doing? Here is an exciting news for you.
