After reading it, he said, “I don’t think this is up to your usual standards.” I said, “I need more information. What doesn’t work?” He said he wasn’t sure. I then took the letter and reread it. He asked, “How about if I look at it again and make notes between the space?” I agreed. A half hour later I looked at his notes and told him he didn’t understand the situation and what I really wanted to express. He shrugged (耸肩) and said OK. I took the letter and went back to my computer and again revised. As I was writing, I could see my letter improving based on his suggestions. When I finished, I proudly handed the letter back to my husband. He read it for the third time and said, “It’s still not right but I couldn’t exactly say.” I was a little annoyed and then told him I was the writer and I had seen some goofy letters he sent out. But I picked up my letter and went back to the computer. After an hour of revisions, I went back to my husband apologetically with letter in hand. I told him I was sorry for what I’d said and asked if he would please read the letter again because I did value his contribution. Being a very patient and kind-hearted fellow, he once again read my letter and declared that it was fine. This all leads me to the following: When you ask for advice on a project, be appreciative and grateful. Understand that the advice and suggestions you get may be negative. Understand that it may mean more work for you. And keep in mind that the final responsibility for the project is still yours. So be modest and thankful even if he or she has noted some problems. 24.Why did the author give her business plan to her husband at first? A. To show off her excellent work. B. To have him type it on the computer. C. To ask him to make some changes from all details. D. To ask him to give her some advice. 25.The author’s husband shrugged after hearing her words because he ________. A. believed in his judgement but couldn’t find why B. knew there was nothing wrong in the business plan C. doubted about himself since he found no excuses D. believed he himself was right and knew the roots 26.We can infer from the passage that the author’s husband was _________. A. selfish, proud and determined B. good at expressing himself C. honest, kind and patient D. humorous, active and careful 27.The author wants to tell us that if you ask for suggestions, ________. A. do accept all suggestions from the givers B. don’t get upset if some are negative C. do keep silent before taking action D. do be grateful and confident C Taking a shower is relaxing. You can hum a song, daydream or think about nothing, leaving the real world behind you. But did you know that showering can also benefit your mind? A research by Scott Barry Kaufman, a psychologist from Yale University in the US interviewed over 3,000 people around the world. It turned out that nearly two-thirds of the interviewees said they had experienced new ideas in the shower and were more likely to have them in the shower than at work. So why does a simple shower have such magic power? Science can explain it. Showering can help to raise our level of dopamine, a hormone (荷尔蒙) closely related to our creativity. “People vary in terms of their level of creativity according to the activity of dopamine”, explained Alice Flaherty, a famous American neuroscientist. “Taking a warm shower can make us feel relaxed and therefore make the dopamine level rise and bring 'Aha!' moment to us.” Besides the chemical changes, showering may give you a break from what you feel you have been stuck with. Especially when you have thought hard all day about a problem, jumping into the shower can keep you from the outside world so that you can focus on your inner feelings and memories. In this way, according to American psychologist Shelley H. Carson, author of Your Creative Brain, “a showering hour may turn into an ‘incubation (孵化) period’ for your ideas.” Compared with sitting in front of a computer, taking a shower is something we do less frequently in our daily life. When showering, we get a fresh experience with the change of location, temperature and humidity. “New and unexpected experiences can lead to positive changes in thinking,” explained Kaufman. “Getting off the couch and jumping in the shower may create a distance and force you to think from a new point of view.” Showering allows us to enjoy the creative juices of our minds, but it needn't just be the bathroom where you get your inspiration. For instance, Gertrude Stein, a female American writer and poet, got new ideas by driving around a farm and stopping at different cows until she found the one that most inspired her. So try to create your own way to free your mind, whether it's a walk near the ocean, a country drive or reading a book at home. 28.According to the article, what changes can showering cause? A. Bringing the terrible moment to us. B. Increasing the level of dopamine. C. Leading to boredom or tiredness. D. Setting the creative part of the brain free. 29.If one has focused on something all day, showering can help _______. A. turn one’s attention inwards B. draw one’s attention to the outside world C. one make an important breakthrough D. many chemical changes to take place 30.It can be inferred from the article that _______. A. changes in the frequency of an action can create a new perspective B. it is a good idea to talk with others about their sources of inspiration C. our lives might feel longer and fuller if we frequently try new things D. it is helpful to try something different rather than stay focused on a difficult task 31.The example of Gertrude Stein in the last paragraph is used to _______. A. encourage readers to find their own ways of getting inspiration B. point out to readers that it's hard to find inspiration C. explain how to link inspiration with readers’ daily lives D. show that creativity often comes from strange places D Telecommuting(电子交通)——substituting the computer for the trip to the job——has been a solution to all kinds of problems related to office work. For workers it promises freedom from the office, less time wasted in traffic, and help with child-care conflicts. For management, telecommuting helps keep high performers on board, minimizes tardiness(工作拖拉) and absenteeism(旷工) by eliminating commutes, allows periods of solitude for high-concentration tasks, and provides scheduling flexibility. In some areas, such as Southern California and Seattle, Washington, local governments are encouraging companies to start telecommuting programs in order to reduce rush-hour traffic jams and improve air quality. But these benefits do not come easily. Making a telecommuting program work requires careful planning and an understanding of the differences between telecommuting realities and popular images. Many workers are seduced by rosy illusions(幻想) of life as a telecommuter. A computer programmer from New York City moves to the quiet Adirondack Mountains and stays in contact with her office via computer. A manager comes into his office three days a week and works at home the other two. An accountant stays home to care for her sick child. These are powerful images, but they are a limited reflection of reality. Telecommuting workers soon learn that it is almost impossible to concentrate on work and care for a young child at the same time. Before a certain age, young children cannot recognize much less respect, the necessary boundaries between work and family. Additional child support is necessary if the parent is to get any work done. Management too must separate the myth from the reality. Although the media has paid a great deal of attention to telecommuting, in most cases, it is the employee’s situation, not the availability of technology that makes a telecommuting arrangement. That is partly why, despite the widespread press coverage(报道) , the number of companies with work-at-home programs or policy guidelines remains small. 32. In theory, the benefits that telecommuting brings don’t include A. looking after children B. improving air quality C. providing flexible schedule D. increasing the salary 33. The underlined word “seduced” probably means · A. cautious B. surprised C. curious D. confused 34.In reality, telecommuting workers learn that · A. young children may help them with their work B. young children may disturb them to work C. they can finish their work more efficiently D. they can balance their work and family more easily 35.What really makes telecommuting possible in most cases? A. The widespread press coverage. B. The availability of technology. C. The employee’s situation. D. Work at home programs or policy guidelines. Getting to sleep is all about the 4Rs Regularity, Routine, a Restful bedroom and the Right bed. 1. Regularity Regularity of bedtimes and getting up times helps ensure good sleep. 36 Keep your bedroom dark while you are sleeping so that the light will not interfere with your rest. As soon as it’s time to wake up, open the curtains or turn a light on. Light helps your body know it’s time to wake up. Planned daytime naps(小慧) are fine, but naps caused by sleepiness will ruin your night-time sleep. 37 2. Routine Having a bedtime routine——like having a bath before bed——will help your brain wind down and prepare you for sleep. Reading a book or listening to the same piece of calming music every night may help too. 38 Write down your worries and possible solutions before you go to bed, then stop thinking about them! 3. Restful bedroom 39 It is not a good idea to use your bed for doing work, making phone calls etc. Help your body recognize that this is a place for rest by getting rid of anything work-related before you go to bed. 4.The Right bed You need to look after your bed. Tum the mattress(床垫)over every few months. 40 A. Try to stay awake all day if you can. B. It should get replaced every 10 years at least. C. However, staying up is harmful to your health. D. Your bedroom should be a place for sleeping only. E. Anxiety excites the nervous system, making you more alert. F. It is necessary to make your bedroom comfortable to live in. G. If possible, try and go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. I was parked in front of the mall wiping off my car. 41 my way from across the parking lot was what society would consider a bum(无业游民). I gave it to my husband for suggestions. 25.A. A half hour later I looked at his notes and told him he didn’t understand the situation and what I really wanted to express. He shrugged (耸肩) and said OK. 故选A。 26.C. When you ask for advice on a project, be appreciative and grateful. Understand that the advice and suggestions you get may be negative. 根据第四段的句子“Showering can help to raise our level of dopamine, a hormone(荷尔蒙) closely related to our creativity. …taking a warm shower can make us feel relaxed and therefore make the dopamine level rise and bring 'Aha!' moment to us.” 29.A. 根据第五段的句子“Besides the chemical changes, showering may give you a break from what you feel you have been stuck with. Especially when you have thought hard all day about a problem, jumping into the shower can keep you from the outside world so that you can focus on your inner feelings and memories. In this way, …a showering hour may turn into an ‘incubation (孵化) period’ for your ideas.” 故选A。 30.D. 31.A. 根据最后一段的例子“For instance, Gertrude Stein, a female American writer and poet, got new ideas by driving around a farm and stopping at different cows until she found the one that most inspired her. So try to create your own way to free your mind, whether it's a walk near the ocean, a country drive or reading a book at home.” 故选A。 其意与G答案的go to bed and wake up at the same time 相对应。 37.A。 It’s not a good idea to use... 41.C.come one’s way为词组,意为“来到某人的身边” 42.C. 45.A. 46.A. 47.A. 48.A. 由上句something inside said, “ask him if he needs any help.” 50.A.由but profound和下文他说的话可知,他说的话是简单的Don’t we all三个词。 51.B. 52.C.通过I had been feeling high, successful and important可知,我在此之前一直认为自己地位高、很成功,是个重要人物,所以C项最佳,其它选项不符合文意。 53.D. 54.A.Reach in my wallet意为“伸手到钱包里拿(钱)”;search for搜寻……; look up在…… 58.C.和上文how much对比,应该是how little。 59.B. 70.to考查介词send sb to prison把某人关进监狱。 使某人干什么的词组是make sb do sth。 第五处:was→am。 make preparations(for sth)是固定词组。 第十处:you→it。I would appreciate it if从句是固定句型。 How to Keep Psychologically Healthy One in four people will experience some kind of mental problems in the course of a year.
