甘肃省武威第五中学2018-2019学年高二上学期期末考试英语试题
2018-2019学年第一学期武威五中高二年级英语试卷 命题人:任丽梅 第一卷 一、阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,共40分) A I came to study in the United States a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was injured in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court. After the accident .my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and determined to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was astonished. He had good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsible for my injury, I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor can help me get a good lawyer .Now that he had helped me find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him. But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time .The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided to dismiss him. And he made me pay him $770. Now I had to act as my own lawyer. Due to my inexperience, I told the insurance company the date I was leaving America. Knowing that, they played for time…and I left without getting a cent. 1. The author’s roommate offered to help him because________. A. he felt sorry for the author B. he thought it was a chance to make some money C. he knew the doctor was a very good one D. he wanted the author to have a good lawyer 2. A good doctor is essential for the author to __________. A. be properly treated B. talk with the person responsible for the accident C. recover before he leaves America D. eventually get the responsible party to pay for his injury 3. The word“charge”in the third paragraph means_________ . A. be responsible B. accuse C. ask as a price D. claim 4. Both the doctor and the lawyer in this passage are very__________. A. friendly B. selfish C. professional D. busy 5. What conclusion can you draw from the story? A. Going to court is something very common in America. B. One must be very careful while driving a car. C. There are more bad sides in America than good sides. D. Money is more important than other things in the US. B Nowadays women appear to have a positive image of themselves as safer drivers than men. In a survey done for insurer MetLife, 51% of women said they drive more safely. The evidence is on their side:Men are 3.4 times more likely than women to get a ticket for careless driving and 3.1 times as likely to be punished for drunk driving. “Women are on average less aggressive and more law abiding (守法的) drivers, which leads to fewer accidents,” the report says. However, not all male drivers share the same opinion. Of the men surveyed by MetLife, 39% claimed male drivers were safer. The findings did back them up on one point:automotive knowledge. The report showed that more men are familiar with current safety equipment such as electronic stability control, which helps prevent rollover accidents. Auto safety unavoidably matters to Money. Insurance companies focus on what classes of drivers have the lowest dollar amounts of claims, and for now, that mainly includes women. In general, women pay about 9% less for auto insurance than men. A study by the website Insweb also showed that auto insurance rates are lower for women in most states. Among individual states, women get the greatest, advantage in Wyoming (where they pay 20% less),South Dakota and Washington,D.C.,where their insurance costs are 16% lower. “More than 11,900 male drivers died in US traffic accidents in 2009,compared with just under 4,900 women drivers” according to the study. “Based on miles traveled, men died at a rate of 2.5 deaths per 100 million miles traveled,vs.1. 7 deaths for women.” 6.According to the study, female drivers________. A.are more aggressive while driving B.are more interested in auto knowledge C.are more likely to stick driving laws D.are more familiar with safety equipment 7.Insurance companies focus on female driver clients probably because they________. A.cause more accidents on the road B.pay more money to the insurance companies C.take the most part of the insurance clients D.have the lowest amount of money on insurance claims 8.The writer mainly develops paragraphs by________. A.giving examples B.making comparisons C.drawing a conclusion D.presenting an argument C I really love my job because I enjoy working with small children and like the challenges and awards from the job. I also think my work is important. There was a time when I thought I would never have that sort of career (职业). I wasn't an excellent student because I didn't do much schoolwork. In my final term I started thinking what I might do and found I didn't have much to offer. I just accepted that I wasn't the type to have a career. I then found myself a job, looking after two little girls. It wasn't too bad at first. But the problems began when I agreed to live in, so that I would be there if my boss had to go out for business in the evening. We agreed that if I had to work extra hours one week, she'd give me time off the next. But unfortunately, it didn't often work out. I was getting extremely tired and fed up, because I had too many late nights and early mornings with the children. One Sunday, I was in the park with the children, and met Megan who used to go to school with me. I told her about my situation. She suggested that I should do a course and get a qualification (资格证书) if I wanted to work with children. I didn't think I would be accepted because I didn't take many exams in school. She persuaded me to phone the local college and they were really helpful. My experience counted for a lot and I got on a parttime course. I had to leave my job with the family, and got work helping out at a kindergarten. Now I've got a fulltime job there. I shall always be thankful to Megan. I wish I had known earlier that you could have a career, even if you aren't top of the class at school. 9.What is the author's present job? A.Working parttime in a college. B.Taking care of children for a family. C.Helping children with their schoolwork. D.Looking after children at a kindergarten. 10.When staying with the two girls' family, the author ________. A.was paid for extra work B.often worked long hours C.got much help from her boss D.took a day off every other week 11.Why did the author leave her first job? A.She found a fulltime job. B.She was fed up with children. C.She decided to attend a parttime course. D.She needed a rest after working extra hours. 12.What has the author learned from her own experiences? A.Less successful students can still have a career. B.Qualifications are necessary for a career. C.Hard work makes an excellent student. D.One must choose the job she likes. D Sunstroke is a condition that can quickly go from dangerous to deadly, especially if proper care isn't given immediately. Sunstroke, sometimes called heatstroke,is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working. It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke, as long as proper action is taken. In that case, you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke. Call for help Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted (昏倒). Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn't much nearby. Get the person to a cooler area If there's a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a wellshaded area. Get the water flowing If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it. If your water supply is limited, you have to save it.Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body.Focus on the face, neck, and chest. Fan the person Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything, a towel or sheet, a shirt, your hands, or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps, as they can combine to fan the entire body. 13.When does a person get sunstroke? A.When the body doesn't function. B.When proper care is given immediately. C.When someone is exposed to the sun too long. D.When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear. 14.What is mainly discussed in the passage? A.The first aid for sunstroke. B.The causes of sunstroke. C.The chief symptoms of sunstroke. D.The essential prevention of sunstroke. 15.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text? A.Call for assistance from others. B.Leave the sunstroke person in the shade. C.Put a wet towel on the person's face. D.Help the person take some medicine. 二、根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Eat Slowly to Avoid Overeating Eating slowly can help you to better understand your real hunger signals and recognize reasons for faster eating, such as emotions or simply liking the taste of food.
