2020年高一英语下学期期末考前练习卷(二)
2020 年高一英语下学期期末练习卷 1、阅读理解 Everybody is afraid of something. That’s what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary stuff. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most. Here are the top 5 answers from our survey (调查):①Scary movies and TV shows;②Scary dreams; ③Thunderstorms, hurricanes (飓风),and other horrible weather;④War and terrorism (恐怖行动);⑤Sounds heard at night. But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasn’t on our list. What is fear? Fear is a feeling that everyone has —it’s programmed into all of us — and that's a good thing because fear is there to protect us. We’re born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again. Real vs. Pretend The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when William's imagination leads him to think of witches,he can tell himself, “Wait a minute. They’re only pretend things. I don’t need to worry about them.” The same goes for the dark. A kid's imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. What’s under my bed? Is that a thief I hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a nightlight or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that there’s nothing there can help kids fight that fear. 1.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about? A.The list of fears is not complete. B.The things people fear are of no big fear. C.Kids have more fears than people think. D.People are afraid of different things. 2.In the writer’s opinion,____________ . A.having a sense of fear is not a bad thing B.babies have a weak sense of fear C.fear is not something that we are born with D.not all people can react to dangerous things 3.What does the underlined word “pretend” in Paragraph 4 mean? A.Ugly B.Usual C.Unreal D.Lovely B The old man walked with a cane (拐杖) slowly into the restaurant. His poor jacket, worn-out trousers made him different from the usual Saturday morning breakfast crowd. Unforgettable were his pale blue eyes that sparkled like diamonds and thin lips that held a steady smile. He walked toward a table by the window. A young waitress watched him and ran over to him, saying, “Here, Sir. Let me give you a hand with that chair.” Without a word, he smiled and nodded a thank you. She pulled the chair away from the table. Supporting him with one arm, she helped him move in front of the chair, and get comfortably seated. Then she pushed the table up close to him, and leaned his cane against the table. In a soft, clear voice he said, “Thank you, Miss.” “You’re welcome, Sir.” She replied. “My name is Mary. I’ll be back in a moment. If you need anything, just wave at me.” After he had finished a nice meal, Mary brought him the change, helping him up from his chair and walking with him to the front door. Holding the door open for him, she said, “Come back and see us, Sir!” He nodded a thank you and said with a smile, “You are very kind!” When Mary went to clean his table, she was shocked. Under his plate she found a business card and a note written on the napkin, under which was a $ 100 bill. The note read, “Dear Mary, I respect you very much, and you respect yourself, too. It shows by the way you treat others. You have found the secret of happiness. Your kind gestures will shine through those who meet you.” The man she had served was the owner of the restaurant. This was the first time that she, or any of his employees, had seen him in person. 4.Mary ran over to the old man because _____. A.the old man was the boss of the restaurant B.she was worried that the old man might cause trouble to the restaurant C.she saw the old man had some difficulty moving and taking a seat D.the old man had asked her to wait on him 5.The man came to the restaurant_____. A.A Kind- hearted Girl B.Shining Kindness C.Kindness Means Opportunities D.A Special Boss C Doesn’t it astonish how much time we spend talking about food? “Have you ever eaten …?” “What did you have for lunch?” and so on. And yet when you travel from one country to another, you will find that people have quite different feelings about food. People often feel that what they eat is normal (正常) and that what other people eat is strange or silly. In most parts of Asia, for example, no meal is complete without rice. In England, people eat potatoes every day. In the Middle East, bread is the main part of every meal. Eating like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult to change. Americans like to drink a lot of orange juice and coffee. The English drink tea four or five times every day. Australians drink a great deal of beer, and the French drink wine every day. The sort of meat people like to eat also differs from one country to another. Horse meat is thought to be delicious in France. In Hong Kong, some people enjoy eating snakes. New Zealanders eat sheep, but they never eat goat meat. The Japanese don't like to eat sheep meat because of its smell, but they enjoy eating raw fish (生鱼). So it seems that although eating is a topic we can talk about for hours, there is very little common sense in what we say it. People everywhere enjoy eating what they have always eaten, and there is very little we can do to change our eating habits. 8.Which of the following is true according to the article? A.All people have the same feeling about food. B.In most parts of Asia, people usually have rice for meals. C.People often consider other people to be strange or silly. A.because they get thirsty easily B.because there is plenty of tea in Britain C.because of their drinking habit D.because they have enough time to do so D The terrible college entrance exam is not only a big challenge for Chinese high school students, but also a very important exam in the lives of South Korean students. Although the long, cold winter has already started in South Korea, the annual national exams have made the atmosphere very heated. More than 675,000 South Korean high school graduates took the college entrance exam last Wednesday. They usually take exams in Korean, math, sociology, history and foreign languages. The students want to attend these colleges for both their famous names and better job opportunities. Because students face fierce competition, they have to study very hard to realize their dreams. Park Seung said he and his classmates often go to school before 7:30 a. m. After school has finished at 6:30 p.m., most of them go to the library to continue their study instead of returning home. Since many libraries in South Korea are open 24 hours a day, they often stay long into the night. Many of the Senior 3 students only sleep for three to four hours a day. “I feel a lot of pressure, but I have to study very hard in order to make my dream come true. This is my lifetime goal and it will be a turning point in my life ,which could decide my future.” Park said. The exam day is a very serious day for the whole of South Korea. Vehicles are not allowed within a 200-metre radius (范围) of all the test sites to make sure the students have quiet surroundings. Tooting (吹奏) of horns is forbidden, even airplanes are ordered to avoid landing and take-off near the test sites during listening comprehension test hours. Students are told their scores in December before they apply for college. This is followed by face-to-face oral tests. There are public and private universities in South Korea. Many private universities are well- known, but their fees can be 18,000 yuan each term. This has made a lot of students think again. 12.The students want to study in top colleges mainly because ________. Yesterday, I went to your restaurant to have lunch with my classmate. We reserved our seats in advance, but the server at the front desk told us that he didn’t receive our call at all. So we had to wait for almost half an hour for a table. After that, when we asked a waitress to bring us a fork, she pretended not to have heard us. Worse still, another waitress spilt some soup on my classmate’s dress but she even didn’t say sorry to us. I can’t believe that such things could happen in your restaurant, which enjoys a good fame for many years. Forgive me if I’m impolite, but we’re very angry about this and we hope that you can give us a satisfactory explanation. We are looking forward to your early reply. Yours truly, Li Hua查看更多
