The whole idea of the day is for music students around the area to meet other players and receive expert teaching from our ‎ guests, six professional players. In the evening, you will perform the pieces you have worked on during the day at a concert which your friends and family can attend.‎ After you have registered(注册) at the reception, go to the main hall. First, there will be a short performance by our professional musicians who are joining us for the day. After this you will go into your classes to practice on your own instruments for the evening concert. There will also be a chance to experiment with a different instrument from the one you normally play, and see if you enjoy playing something more unusual—we have several instruments to choose from!‎ The first part of the day will finish at 5 p.m., when parents can collect students. For those remaining in the hall until the evening concert at 7 p.m., there will be DVDs for you to watch, although you should also bring something to do while you are waiting. A change of clothes is required for the evening—black trousers or a skirt and white top—so unless you are going home at 5 p.m., you will need to have this with you at the start of the day.‎ If for whatever reason you cannot attend the evening concert, you must tell us as soon as possible, as we need to know numbers in order to prepare the stage. We look forward to seeing you at the Young People’s Music Day.‎ ‎21. What can students do on Music Day?‎ A. They can have dinner with experts.‎ B. They can receive professional advice.‎ C. It’s important to know what to do and where to go during severe weather. A Wisconsin couple says an early warning could have been the difference between life and death when a tornado hit last summer.‎ Larry and Rita Krznarich were camping in northern Wisconsin last year. The day started off nice, but took a turn for the worse in the evening. So they turned on their weather radio.‎ ‎“I turned the radio on and there was a specific warning: A storm is about to hit the TurtleFlambeau. Take cover immediately,” says Larry Krznarich. “I said to Rita, ‘Head for the table. I’m going to warn the neighbors.’”‎ Larry joined Rita under the picnic table and within minutes a tornado hit. A falling tree hit Larry and broke his leg bone, but without the warning the couple says things could have been worse.‎ ‎“The tent, where we may have been if not for the weather radio, was completely covered by trees; all of our things were completely covered,” says Rita Krznarich.‎ With spring here, people are being reminded to plan for severe weather. That includes buying a weather radio.‎ ‎“The great thing about the weather radio is that it’s instantaneous. It’s directly from the weather service, so you’re getting information at exactly the same time they’re getting it,” says Tod Pritchard, Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.‎ Larry has recovered from his injuries and now the couple makes sure everyone they know has a weather radio.‎ ‎“Ever since the storm, we’ve given weather radios as gifts to people. You can get them for $20 so there’s no excuse not to have one or a couple,” says Larry.‎ ‎24. What happened to the Wisconsin couple?‎ A. They survived a violent storm.‎ B. They were attacked while camping.‎ C. They got seriously injured in a tornado.‎ D. They were saved from danger by their neighbors.‎ ‎25. What did the radio warning tell people to do? ‎ A. Watch out for falling trees.‎ B. Stay at home in the evening.‎ C. Protect themselves from bad weather.‎ D. Avoid camping in the TurtleFlambeau.‎ ‎26. What does the underlined word “instantaneous” in the text mean?‎ A. Useful.‎ B. Correct.‎ C. Reliable.‎ D. Immediate.‎ ‎27. What’s does the passage mainly tell us?‎ A. We should protect the environment to avoid natural disasters.‎ B. A weather radio should be part of severe weather preparations.‎ C. The Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week is necessary.‎ D. We should make safety plans for severe weather before we travel.‎ C Before January 2005, young girls couldn’t play soccer in Katutura, a black township in Namibia, Africa. They had no soccer balls, no playing field, no shoes, and no leader. Each day, girls and boys gathered at the Nordkamp Center after school. Most of the boys would play soccer in a nearby dirt field while the girls remained at the center to jump rope or read books.‎ Center director Mary Beth Gallagher loved soccer and knew that the girls would love it, too. So she organized a girls’ team with players under the age of 12. She knew it would be the youngest girls’ soccer team in the whole country. Because they had no other girls’ teams to compete with, Mary Beth arranged(安排) matches against the boys’ teams. The boys were bigger and stronger, but the girls didn’t back down.‎ Soon news spread about the Nordkamp girls’ team. An American soccer team from New York heard about them and immediately sent all their uniforms and shoes to their “soccer sisters”. When the bright orange uniforms arrived, the Nordkamp girls danced happily.‎ ‎“You look like pumpkins,” Mary Beth said.‎ A girl’s voice called out, “If we are pumpkins, we’re beautiful pumpkins.”‎ With their new name the Pumpkins, the experienced team was ready for a big match.‎ On December 1, the Pumpkins gathered and walked in a big orange line to a field near the Nordkamp Center. Their first opposing(对抗的) team laughed at the young players, but they didn’t laugh for long. They quickly found out just how good the Pumpkins were. The Pumpkins beat that first team and then the next. These girls became famous, and their story was also encouraging to others in Namibia.‎ ‎28. What happened in Katutura before January 2005?‎ A. There was no girls’ soccer team.‎ B. Boys had no place to play soccer.‎ C. Girls often played soccer with boys.‎ D. Kids preferred jumping rope to soccer.‎ ‎29. What is Mary Beth’s attitude towards the idea of girls playing soccer?‎ A. She thinks little of it.‎ B. She is doubtful of it.‎ C. She is uncertain about it.‎ D. She feels hopeful about it.‎ ‎30. Why was the Nordkamp girls’ team called the Pumpkins?‎ A. Because of the color of its uniforms.‎ B. Because of the heights of its players.‎ C. Because pumpkins are its players’ favorite food.‎ D. Because pumpkins always bring people good luck.‎ ‎31. What can we learn from the girls’ story?‎ A. All time is no time when it is past.‎ B. Where there is a will, there is a way.‎ C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.‎ D. Self-trust is the first secret of success.‎ D Christopher Charles studied Health Science at a university in Canada. After graduation,‎ ‎ he went to Cambodia and lived in a small village. There, he studied a serious health condition called anaemia(贫血症). People with anaemia do not have enough iron in their bodies. Charles did blood tests on many people and discovered something shocking. About 90% of women and children had anaemia. He knew he could not leave Cambodia.‎ Iron medicine is the usual treatment for anaemia, but it costs a lot. Cooking with iron pots could help because it would release iron into every meal. But iron pots are heavy and expensive. Also, food goes bad if it is left in an iron pot. So Charles added an iron bar to a cooking pot. It didn’t cost much money and it did release lots of iron. However, instead of cooking with it, people used it to hold down papers or support a table with a broken leg.‎ Finally Charles created the iron fish. People in Cambodia eat fish every day and they believe fish are lucky. So people are willing to put the iron fish in their cooking pots.‎ It turned out that the iron fish not only improved people’s health, but also helped the local economy. People who use the iron fish miss fewer days at work. And some people even get jobs from the iron fish. They make and supply the iron fish.‎ More and more people are using the lucky iron fish in Cambodia now. But anaemia is a worldwide problem, which affects one in three people in the world. In some places people do not eat fish. Charles says this is not a problem. “The iron could be shaped in a different form. What is important is that it is right for each culture. So people will use it and it will improve their lives,” he says.‎ ‎32. Why did Charles decide to stay in Cambodia?‎ A. He graduated from a university there.‎ B. He was attracted by the small village.‎ C. He wanted to solve a health problem there. ‎ D. He was kindly requested to stay by the locals.‎ ‎33. What was the problem with the iron bar for treating anaemia? ‎ A. People couldn’t afford it.‎ B. It didn’t release enough iron.‎ C. People found other uses for it.‎ D. It could easily make food go bad.‎ ‎34. How did the local people feel about using the iron fish?‎ A. Bored.‎ B. Shocked.‎ C. Puzzled.‎ D. Pleased.‎ ‎35. What does Charles mean by his words in the last paragraph?‎ A. Anaemia is not so serious as people think.‎ B. Fish is an important part of Cambodian culture.‎ C. A treatment does not work unless it is acceptable.‎ D. The iron fish can be used for treating anaemia worldwide.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Michael Vaughan, one of England’s great cricketers, has some words to share with us now.‎ ‎· 36. ________‎ When I first played in the men’s team, I faced West Indian cricketer Kenny Benjamin. 37.________ A few years later, Ian Bishop, another West Indian cricketer, came to play for us and he was even quicker.
