She poured all the change out on the floor and counted it carefully. Three times, even. The total had to be absolutely exact. Then carefully placing the coins back in the jar and twisting on the cap, she slipped out the back door and made her way six blocks to the pharmacy(药房). She waited patiently for the pharmacist to give her some attention but he was too busy at this moment. So she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter. That did it! “And what do you want?” the pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. “I’m talking to my brother from Chicago whom I haven’t seen in ages,” he said without waiting for a reply to his question. “Well, I want to talk to you about my brother,” Tess answered back in the same annoyed tone. “He’s really, really sick… and I want to buy a miracle.” “I beg your pardon?” said the pharmacist. “His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my Daddy says only a miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost?” The pharmacist’s brother was a well dressed man. He bent down and asked the little girl, “What kind of a miracle does your brother need?” “I don’t know,” Tess replied with her eyes welling up. “I just know he’s really sick and Mommy says he needs an operation. But my Daddy can’t pay for it, so I want to use my money.” “How much do you have?” asked the man from Chicago. “One dollar and eleven cents,” Tess answered. “And it’s all the money I have.” “Well, what a coincidence. A dollar and eleven cents—the exact price of a miracle for little brother,” smiled the man. “Take me to where you live. I want to see your brother and meet your parents. Let’s see if I have the kind of miracle you need.” The pharmacist’s brother, Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, was expert in neurosurgery(神经外科). The operation was completed without charge and it wasn’t long before Andrew was home again and doing well. Mom and Dad were happily talking about the chain of events that had led them to this place. “That surgery,” her Mom whispered, “was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?” Tess smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost…one dollar and eleven cents…plus the faith of a little child. 21. Tess took her money to the pharmacy to _____________. While at the end of the day no good will come of it and someone is bound to get hurt, try telling that to someone who's excited to relay the latest piece of juicy news. Most people have some awareness when saying something we know we shouldn't. As it is slipping out of our mouths, we start to feel uncomfortable. We have a sense of conflict between finishing the sentence that may draw attention but won't make anyone look good, and awkwardly stopping mid-story. There are those who after spreading gossip end with a well-meaning, "I shouldn't have said anything and I can't really tell you how I heard it." Not any better. Once out, they may feel good for a moment, but they're just as likely to regret their decision. By this time, it is too late. That said, some people just don't notice or pay attention to the voice in their head saying, "Don't," and others actively ignore it.In the end, the results are the same. With our lack of sensitivity, we say things that should never be said and often don't stop long enough to realize that we have not only hurt others, but we have unintentionally hurt ourselves. Given this, why do people gossip? For some, it feels good to be in control of knowledge that others may not know. Talking about others can become a habit and unless you work hard to break it, you may discover that others distance themselves from you. After all, if you can't be trusted to keep secrets and not share information, people may choose not to have you as their friend. We have two ears and just one mouth. When in doubt, it is always better to listen than to speak. 28. What's the closest meaning of the underlined word "relay"? A. show. B. cover. C. spread. D. get. 29 . Which statement is NOT the reason for people being conscious of saying something we know we shouldn't? A. They feel not good when they leaking out it. B. They are interested in gossiping. C. They have a sense of conflict during saying it. D. They probably to regret to say it. 30. Why do people say something that never be said and can hurt others? A. Because they want to hurt others. B. Because they hate this kind of people. C. Because they know well each other. D. Because they are lack of sensitivity. 31. From the last paragraph, we can know that ______________ A. we should speak less and listen more B. we can't keep secrets C. we haven't many friends D. we should talk about others as many as possible D Are you addicted to computer games? Do you stay up all night playing them? Do you feel happy after you play computer games? There’s no doubt that the excitement and appealing of games these days makes them hard to put down. We are attracted by the choice when it comes to gaming: You can role play--creating your own fantasy characters and stories, giving you a chance to step out of everyday life into an imaginary world. And there are shooting games where you can let out your anger and depression in violent situations where you kill people with guns. You can get excited from the games. However, can these kinds of games really be fun and can being absorbed in virtual reality be good for us? Should we worry about their effects on our health? Popular games like Grand Theft Auto have been blamed for everything from falling results at school to causing acts of extreme violence. Internet safety advisor, Alan MacKenzie, thinks “any people understandably will just think that a game is just a game and not realizing the exact content that’s in there”. He gives an example of the violence, which he says is “wholly inappropriate for anybody, not to mention children.” Others will argue that gaming is a harmless form of entertainment. There is evidence that playing video games could actually be good for us. Some games like Game of Thrones and World of Warcraft are educational and using games certainly can help children learn good qualities. Studies have also shown that the skills used in playing games can cause growth in certain areas of the brain, the ability to think in 3D and even improve our eyesight. Video game players are also no longer just simple creatures. For some, gaming is having a positive effect on their social lives with games like Halo and World of Warcraft often being played in groups. When your group works together to win the game, your sense of achievement is higher than when winning by yourself. So every coin has two sides. It seems today, gaming isn’t just for game fans and if used in a proper way, we can all take part. If video games have two sides, what side do you stand by? 32. The writer used a lot of questions at the beginning to _______. A. lead into the topic of the passage B. show his worries about the effect on health C. doubt the advantage of playing computer games D. ask the reader for their own opinions about games 33. Being around confident people makes you feel good. The other person’s enthusiasm makes all the conversation participants feel confident and comfortable. 37 If it’s someone who you work with, or go to school with, look at their department website, or see if the person is on any social networks before talking to them for the first time. The information you get can be a good starting point for conversations. Ask questions. What do they like to do? What sort of things have they done in their lives? What is happening to them now? What did they do today or last weekend? 38 However, try to space out your questions or they’ll feel like you are interrogating(质问) then, which is very bad and closes off friendships. Listen. Pay attention to what is being said. Make movements to indicate that you are still listening. If you listen well, the other person’s statements will suggest questions for you to ask. 39 They will often not realize that it was they who did most of the talking, and you get the credit for being a good conversationalist. I used to think so until one day I had read a story about Howard Joyce. He was an European billionaire who got everything he wanted. Therefore, in the last twenty years of his life, his health began to get worse and he led a miserably life. Although the best doctors called for him, he could still find no relief. I have realized that health is worth all the money in the world. If you have million of dollars but you are at poor health, you will not be able to do what you want to do. So I would like to advise you not to hurt yourself and trying to make money. Instead, take care of your body and be happy with which you do. Health is more important. 参考词汇:电话诈骗telecom fraud 学费tuition fee 转账transfer …to At the beginning of the new semester, many students fell victims to telecom fraud, _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高三西北狼联考 英语卷 参考答案 听力:1.5*20=30分 1—5 AABCB 6—10 CAACB 11—15 CBBCA 16—20 ABACB 阅读理解:2*20=40分 21-24 BCAC 25-27 CAD 28-31 CBDA 32-35 ACDB 36-40 GCFEB 完形填空:1.5*20=30分 41-45 CCABA 46 -50 BDCAC 51-55 DBCDC 56-60 BDDBA 语法填空:1.5*10=15分 61. when 62. difference 63. left 64. managed 或had managed 65. nor 66. to contact 67. The others even lost their lives for they couldn’t accept the fact. In my view, the cheaters have so many tricks that we should spare no effort to fight against them to protect ourselves. To start with, we should have a strong awareness of self-protection from being cheated. Whether they ask you to transfer money to them or they give money to you, refuse it directly. Besides, keep in touch with your families often so that you won’t be cheated by being told that your families are in trouble and need you to transfer money. If so, you can call your families immediately to prove this. Last but not least, our government should take some effective measures to punish criminals severely in order that they are afraid to do such things. Only by doing all the things above can we live a safe and happy life. 录音原文: Text 1 M: I’m hungry. Can we go get a burger or something? W: Didn’t you ask me to help you lose weight? M: Yeah, but all I’ve had to eat today is a salad. I’ve never been hungrier in my life! Text 2 W: Excuse me. Where is the nearest post office? I need to mail a package to my business partner. M: I’m not sure. I’m a tourist here, so I’m not too familiar with the area. But if you wait a second, I’ll just look on my smart phone. Text 3 M: What’s the score in the game? I was listening on the radio earlier, but I haven’t checked it in over an hour. W: I just turned the TV on, but it’s a commercial break right now, so we’ll just have to wait a minute. M: Hey! That’s the ad for the new Leonardo DiCaprio movie! Quiet! Text 4 W: Why aren’t you going to college? You’re a great student. Won’t your parents be disappointed? M: Actually, it was my father’s idea to take a year off after graduation. He needs help at his brother’s company, and I’ll get some good experience working there…not to mention money for school when I eventually decide to go. Text 5 M: Good morning. How much are the apples and pears? W: The apples are two dollars a pound, and the pears are three dollars a pound. M: I’ll take two pounds of apples and one pound of pears, please. Text 6 W: You really don’t know what you’re talking about, Mr. Cassell. M: Oh, come on! I saw you take that pen off Ms. Baker’s desk and put it in your desk. Maybe I should tell her what you did. W: Please don’t do that. I promise, you’ve got this whole situation all wrong. M: That’s it. I’m going to find Mr. Langley. W: There’s no reason to bring the boss into this. Look, it’s Ms. Baker’s birthday tomorrow, so we’re playing a little joke on her. We’re going to replace all her pens with kids’ markers, and then we’ll return everything the next day. Get it now? M: Oh. I guess I, uh…won’t say anything. Sorry about that. Text 7 M: I’m so tired. I worked out for almost two hours today. W: I’m pretty tired, too. But I was up all night last night working on a paper for my sociology class. It’s for my major, so I had to make sure it was perfect. M: How late did you stay up? W: Oh, I’m not sure, but it was already light outside, I can tell you that. M: What? That’s crazy. Why did you leave it to the last minute? W: It’s just the way I write papers. Whenever I study for an exam, I start preparing weeks in advance. But there is something about writing papers that makes me want to stay up all night writing. Maybe I like the idea of being a journalist and working long hours, or maybe I just have more focus in the early morning. M: Well, how do you usually do on your papers? W: I haven’t gotten anything less than an A- since high school. M: Wow, it really works for you! Text 8 W: Good evening, sir. Do you have a reservation with us tonight? M: Yes, it’ s under the name Willis. W: One moment…Willis, party of four, is that right? M: Yes, that’s us! W: Wonderful. I see half of your group has not yet arrived. I can seat you now, or you can have a drink at the bar while you wait. M: Oh, I think my wife and I would prefer to sit down now. W: Would you like a table by the window? M: Oh, that would be great! And please bring us some ice water and some menus. W: Coming right up, sir. I can also take any other drink orders besides water. M: We’ll definitely be ordering a bottle of red wine, and we may also order a bottle of white wine depending on what food we decide to have. But we can take care of that when the others arrive. W: Very good, sir. I’ll bring you our wine list right away, and I’ll let our wine expert Ralph know that you may have some questions for him. M: Great, thanks. Text 9 M: This is so much fun! I’ve never been to a horse race before. W: I’m glad you could come. My dad used to take me here all the time when I was a kid. He knew some of the trainers, so we would actually get to go down onto the track and touch the horses before races! M: Wow! Do you know how to ride a horse? W: Yeah, I’ve done it a few times. But I don’t think riding a horse and racing a horse are similar at all! M: You’ve got a point there. So, when does the race start? W: In less than five minutes. But there will be a dozen races today, so if the next one isn’t very competitive, we’ll still have a chance to see a good race later on. M: Awesome. Hey, what are all those people doing over there? W: They’re putting money on which horse will win the race. M: How do they know who will win? W: They don’t know for sure. It’s just a way to have fun. All the horses have cool names, and it’s a way to get people excited about cheering for them. Look, that one is named Grandpa! M: Ha-ha! W: I’d never put my money on a horse, though. It seems like such a waste. M: You can say that again! Oh, it looks like the race is about to start! Text 10 All right, everyone. Thank you for coming in today. As you all know, we’re here to celebrate the career of Maurice Jones. Mr. Jones joined the company three decades ago. He worked in the mail room after he finished high school, and he got promoted to office manager after a few months because he was so well organized. He stayed in that position for a year and a half, at which point he demanded that the company pay for him to get his degree while he continued to work. This had never happened here at Bradley & Cooper before, but Mr. Jones drives a hard bargain, as you all know so well! Mr. Jones took night classes so he could remain on the team full-time, and his hard work and devotion to learning made him a perfect candidate for a management position. Mr. Jones continued to move up the ladder here, becoming the vice president of operations just five years ago. Mr. Jones will most definitely be missed. We will all remember his warm smile and strong will to succeed. I think everyone could learn a thing or two from Mr. Jones, including me. I’ve been with this company from the very beginning — almost 40 years — and I can tell you that this is one special man right here. Congratulations for making it all the way to retirement! Let’s give Mr. Jones the microphone now so he can say a few words... 查看更多
