Researchers are now looking at whether to catch yawns from other people is a born ability, with the hope of helping treat some mental health disorders. People with some mental illnesses are reportedly less able to catch yawns, researchers said, so understanding the genes(基因) that are connected with contagious yawning could open new paths for treatment. In the study, published in the journal Plos One, 328 participants were shown a three-minute video showing other people yawning. Each participant had to click a button every time they yawned. Overall, 68 percent of the participants yawned. Of those, 82 percent of people aged under 25 yawned, compared with 60 percent of people aged between 25 and 49, and 41 percent of people aged over 50. Dr Elizabeth Cirulli, assistant professor of medicine at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, led the study. She said, “This is the first study to look at a large number of factors. It is the largest study, when it comes to the number of people participating, till now.” She said she did not know why contagious yawning reduced with age. Dr Cirulli added that although age was the most important predictor(预测器) of con tagious yawning, only 8% of the change in whether or not a participant yawned was explained by their age. “Most of change in the contagious yawning reaction was just not explained,” said Dr Cirulli.  Robert R Provine, professor of psychology at the University of Maryland in Baltimore County, said the study was “special” as it was the first time a link between ageing and contagious yawning had been shown. Prof Provine said the findings could help to understand why laughing and coughing were so contagious. He added, “Contagious acts such as yawning and laughing remind us that we are often mindless to control our behaviour.” 4. Why do the researchers carry out studies on yawning? A. To stop yawning from spreading        B. To deal with some mental illnesses C. To find out yawning is a born activity    D. To help prevent people from yawning 5. What can we learn from the study on yawning? A. The study lasted for 3 minutes. B. A 15-year-old boy is more likely to yawn than a 50-year-old man. C. The study is so far the largest one as for the number of people participating. B. Aging and contagious yawning are closely related. C. People are often influenced by contagious acts without knowing it. D. Factors besides age also have an effect on contagious yawning. 7. What is the best title of the passage? A. However, to million people worldwide who suffer from paraskevidekatriaphobia (周五 13 恐惧症), the combination of the day and number brings had luck. While no one knows for sure how it began, there are many theories.‎ Experts think it starts with the fear of the number 13. The number 13 suffers from its position after 12, which is regarded as a complete number. After all, there are 12 months in a year, 12 gods of Olympus, and so on. This has caused the belief that 13 is incomplete and, therefore, unlucky.‎ The number’s bad name is worsened by the fact that several unfortunate incidents are linked with 13. One example is NASA’s Apollo 13 mission (任务). The seventh manned mission in the Apollo space program, launched (发射) at 13:13, never landed on moon. For some people, the mission failed because of the number 13.‎ If you are among those who can “Shake It Off”, you are in great company. Taylor Swift is not affected by the number, who says, “I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. Every time I’ve won an award I’ve been seated in either the 13th seal or the 13th row. Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it’s a good thing.”‎ The fear of Friday appears to come mainly from ancient religion. It was the day Jesus was killed. Though the date was not the 13th, it happened after the Last Supper, which had 13 guests.‎ When the date and day meet, people suffer from anxiety. Construction and shipbuilding workers easily become nervous, which often leads to more accidents. This, of course, further adds to their anxiety. It is reported that businesses lose more than $800 million because many people avoid traveling or shopping on this day.‎ ‎12. In which part of a newspaper might the passage come from?‎ A. Society and Culture. B. Wealth and Finance.‎ C. Health and Fitness. D. Arts and Entertainment.‎ ‎13. Why was Apollo 13 mission mentioned?‎ A. To prove people’s fear of 13. B.
