B Liz Murray grew up in New York City, with drug-addicted parents who sometimes sold g household items in order to get their fix and finally lost their house. As a child, Murray hated ,school beause when she did go, she was teased as an oddball-after all, she had no one at home to make sure she showered or got up on time. Rather than submit to the sadness that had characterized her brief experience in foster care, Murray chose to care for herself. When Murray was 16, her parents both died from drugs. Murray felt that event as "a slap in the face" that caused her to question where her life was going. With an eighth-grade education, Murray decided that, as she said, "Life rewards action. I was going to go out there and…have action in my life every day instead of this stagnant(停滞的) behavior that I had been staying in for so long. " At an alternative high school, Murray took a double course load and completed high school in only two years. The school took its top 10 students, including Murray, on a trip to Boston, where the group walked through Harvard Yard. "It's not as though I had some sort of insight at the moment…It was more that I got jealous of how these students had so much opportunity, and I felt that I had very little. And so then I thought, 'Well, what's the difference between me and anyone here?' And I filled in all the gaps. "Her grades earned Murray a scholarship from the New York Times. She applied and was admitted to Harvard, and graduated in 2009. Along the way, Murray began to tell her story through writing and public speaking. Her tale was adapted by Lifetime Television in the 2013 film Homeless to Harvard : the Liz Mur ray Story. One is called Yaganes and is located just off the southern tip of Argentina-a spot nicknamed "the end of the world". The other, Namuncura-Burdwood Bank II, is in the South Atlantic. Together, they make up 37,000 square miles of marine protected areas (MPAs) full of sea creatures, many of which are classified as threatened species. Parts of these new MPAs have remained pristine because of their remoteness, and the Argentinian government's decision to protect them ensures that the marine ecosystems will stay that way. Conservationists are hoping this move signals a shift toward stronger conservation measures in the country. Not only because the decision shows more protected territory, but also because it comes with a legal framework to carry out the new restrictions. With the creation of these two new marine protected areas,8 percent of Argentina's waters are now protected, bringing the country closer to its goal of protecting 10 percent of its national waters by 2020. MPAs are a popular tool used by governments to meet the United Nations' larger goal of A March study, partially supported by Pristine Seas, found that many declared protected areas around the globe are not effectively enforced. And even with countries' self-reported conservation declarations, the UN is predicted to fall short of its goal. But countries like Argentina aren't giving up. Argentina is catching up on marine conservation. Now it's becoming a world leader in world conservation. 1. What was the aim to create the two marine parks? ______ A. To build the same size area as Hungary. B. To protect the marine environment and creatures. C. To change conservation measures in the country. D. To realize the goal of protecting the world's animals. 2. What does the underlined word "pristine" in paragraph 3 mean? ______ A. Substantial. B. Primitive. C. Unpopular. D. Dangerous. 3. What measure did Argentinian take to do with the IVIPAs? ______ A. It carried out some new restrictions to forbid fishing. B. It planned to be a world leader in world conservation. C. It passed some laws to ensure they were protected well. D. It decreased the goal of protecting its national waters. 4. What does Jane think of MPAs? ______ A. Many of them are not effectively protected. B. They can keep fish from increasing too fast. C. Some of them should be used as commercial areas. D. They are significant in protecting the ocean environment. D With the introduction of two drugs to treat hepatitis month, children now have a better chance of a cure. Children may actually have an easier time than adults getting approved for the treatment. About 23,000 to 46,000 children in America are infected with hepatitis C, a blood-borne infection that causes liver failure, cancer and death. Most of the estimated 2.7 million to 3.9 million people with chronic hepatitis C in America get it from sharing needles. But only about 20 percent of children get it from drug use. The majority of kids become infected by their moms who have it during pregnancy. But the new drugs hasn't been approved for kids. Many doctors have been delaying treatment in expectation of the approval by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Because the FDA approval applies to children over age 12 who weigh at least 77 pounds, this group would require an adult dose. Since neither adults nor children are routinely screened for hepatitis C and many don't develop any symptoms after becoming infected, people may have the disease for years before learning that they're sick. When Harvoni and Sovaldi first came on the market, they typically approached $1000,000 for a course of treatment. Medicaid (医疗补助) programs, in particular, restricted access to the drugs for adults, often requiring that people have significant liver damage or prove that they'd been drug-free and alcohol-free for several months before they would approve treatment. "Increased competition from other drugs since then has helped reduce the price somewhat, and insurers aren't creating quite as many obstacles to the treatment now. So the prospect of them will be bright," said Ryan Clary, director of the National Viral Hepatitis Roundtable. "As for the two drugs, we expect plans will be carried out befor ore their normal practices, said Kristine Grow, a spokesperson for America's Health Insurance Plans, a trade group. "This includes evaluating the evidence, systematic review of the medication's effectiveness and updating their policies as new evidence is available." 1. What can we know about the two drugs? A. Children are unwilling to take them. B. They haven't been used widely. C. Many people are unaware of their effect. D. Doctors show no enthusiasm to use them. 2. What prevents people knowing their getting hepatitis C? A. Backward medical equipment. B. Little attention paid to treatment. C. No timely physical examination. D. Lack of relative knowledge. 3. What is Ryan Clary's attitude to the two drugs' future? A. Unclear. B. Cautious. C. Hopeful. D. Negative. 4. What does Kristine Grow expect of the two drugs? A. The arrangement for their trial. B. The approval of exporting them. C. The treatment on herself. D. The preparation for producing them. 二、阅读七选五(本大题共5小题,共10.0分) Whether you work hard to get 10,000 steps a day or just like a daily outing with your dog, walking is a near-perfect exercise. Although we have∧ told what we might expect, it's still a bit difficulty to get used to the situation. For example, we have to boil water every day to have something safe to drink it. There is also no electricity, that means that there are no refrigerators or light. In addition to feed ourselves, we must also provide food with the rescuers. It needed some creativity as we have to cook over a fire. Fortunate, we are able to make adjustments and we will try our best to rebuild a village 详解: 1. have后面加been,考查语态,句子主语和tell之间是被动关系,所以永被动语态. 2. difficulty改为difficult,考查形容词,作表语,所以用形容词. 3.去掉 it,考查句子结构,drink的逻辑上的宾语为have的宾语something, have sth to do,do有要做的事情,不定式作后置定语. 4. that改为which,考查非限制性定语从句,指代前面句子,在非限制性定语从句中作主语,所以用which引导. 5. light改为lights,考查名词的数,light"灯",为可数名词,所以用复数泛指一类. 6. feed改为feeding,考查动名词,介词后跟动名词. 7. with改为for,考查固定搭配,provide sth for sb提供某人某东西. Dear Dave, I hear that you are interested in Chinese characters, so I'm glad to invite you to go with us to watch the recent Chinese Characters Dictation Contest.
