【英语】2019届二轮复习完形填空专题记叙文10篇训练之二十七(13页word版)
2019届二轮复习完形填空专题记叙文10篇训练之二十七 [一] Last Friday, A couple decided that instead of hosting their friends and family for a traditional feast reception, they would feed the victims from an earthquake-stricken area. They stood behind large food trucks distributing meals to 4,000 homeless people for their wedding reception on the border town of Kilis. The idea came from the bridegroom’s father, Ted, who volunteers for a Turkish relief organization. For the past few years, the organization has distributed daily meals to thousands of people who’ve suffered from natural disasters. He approached a representative of the organization and suggested that the family cover part of the costs of feeding them for the day. Then he told his son, who was surprised by the suggestion, but soon won oven When he told that to the bride, she was really shocked but finally accepted because in southeastern Turkey there is a real culture of sharing with people in need. They love to share their food, their table and everything they have. And afterwards she was quite amazed about it. So, they arrived at the distribution center on Thursday to spend the day serving food and taking photographs with their grateful recipients (接受者). On that evening, the newly married couple were still pleased with their decision to quit a personal celebration for one with a greater good. “It’s like sharing a dinner with your friends and family who have this kind of thing on a daily basis or sharing something with people who don't even have the most basic things,” Michael said. “ Hopefully, this will also give the start for other wedding dinners to be held here with our brothers and sisters in need.” 24. It is the story of a young boy named Pi who spends 227 days at sea with a small group of animals after disaster strikes their ship and is an account of his journey of survival and hardship. Piscine “Pi” Molitor Patel, on whom Life of Pi is based, is a young boy living in Pondicherry, India, where his father owns a zoo. The story starts when Patel’s family decide to move to Canada, along with their zoo animals for their new home. However, because of the bad weather, the ship sinks. Pi along with an orangutan (猩猩), an injured zebra, a hyena (鬣狗) and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker are the only survivors who take shelter in a small lifeboat. Both the injured zebra and the orangutan are soon killed and eaten by the hyena. The tiger in turn kills and eats the hyena, leaving just the two of them alone on the boat now. In an effort to avoid being eaten by Richard Parker, Pi acts himself as the head of the group and remains safe from harm. Since he does not want the tiger to die for fear of going mad by being alone on the boat, he fishes and feeds the two of them in order to stay alive. The life of Pi then enters its third stage when their lifeboat washes up on the shores of Mexico and the tiger escapes into a nearby forest leaving Pi alone. After the Mexicans refuse to believe Pi’s story, he changes his tale by replacing the animals with his mother, a cook and a sailor and asks the Mexicans which one they prefer. They prefer hearing the first story though they do not believe a word of it. In my view, Life of Pi is a must read book for all those who love reading. 28. To my amazement I discovered that not only had I been paid, a company I’d never worked for had also paid me! I knew I’d have been beside myself if my own salary was not in my account, so I tried to get the money back to the right person. Easier said than done. The bank couldn’t help as it wasn’t a bank problem. The human resources department at the company that paid me was unable to help as I didn’t have enough details. I rang the bank again. Thankfully I had a sympathetic call operator who gave me a name, so I again rang the company “Daniel” worked for. I expected the bank would contact me to arrange to take the money from my account and repay Daniel. I heard nothing for a month and the money remained in my account when Daniel called, explaining he’d tried to get back his money but had been unsuccessful as neither the bank nor his company felt it was their error. He had rung to ask if I could speak to the bank, but after chatting for a few minutes we realized we could probably fix this problem ourselves. We decided I would take the money from my account and he would pick it up from me. Due to my busy job I was unable to meet Daniel personally but he left me a lovely bottle of wine in exchange for what was rightfully his. I never had any intention of keeping Daniel’s pay but red tape(烦琐手续) made it difficult to do the right thing. We felt that there was more to life.” So they quit their jobs, took their sons, then aged six and nine, out of school and went to southern Spain where they bought a 15-metre yacht(游艇) and headed up the coast to Barcelona. Soracha was not even three. And they brought along Poppy, the family dog. Now, two and a half years and 10,000 km later, they don’t intend to stop. Tedd is a yacht engineer and can find work in ports. But, says Phillida, a supply teacher(代课老师), “Any family could do this.” The children are home-schooled using a correspondence course(函授课程). My son had a recent project on the weather. The weather is vital to us. My son knows more than most adults about weather systems, compasses, maps and directions. The weather, for him, means life or death. Other subjects have become equally vivid. “They’re living geography and history all the time. We’ve sailed round Italy, Sardinia, Sicily, and seen tiny islands we didn’t know. The kids learned about ancient Romans by visiting Rome. One summer off the Italian coast we sailed past a volcano at 2 a.m. We woke the kids. There it was, under the moon, with fire coming out of the top—you don’t get that in a textbook.” But what about social development? Again, Phillida is sanguine. “The children have become much more socially confident since we set out. They play with tones of families of all nationalities on other boats we meet.” Living for the moment, they believe, is a huge life lesson. “Our children never say they’re bored.” The other day they stopped mid-ocean and the kids swam, 110 km from land. “That’s the kind of freedom we want for them,” says Phillida. “That’s the kind of freedom they’ve got.” 32. Only her memory and the thought of her laughter could bring them together. "Why don't you eat your pikelets with your milk?" Clinton asked, looking at his son across the table. The boy was a brown and healthy-looking six-year-old, with an independent sturdiness that pleased his father. But looking into the child's eyes caused him pain. They were so reminiscent of Louise's. And it was too soon. It would pass after a while, of course, but right now he couldn't help remembering the number of weeks and days since death had silenced her laughter. "When you have pikelets and milk you ought to eat them together." Clinton had made this suggestion several times before, but never before had Peter questioned the wisdom of it. "Why?" Peter asked. "Because they taste better that way," Clinton said. "And, besides—" Then he stopped and frowned. "Because that's the way I eat them," he was thinking. "I don't like them that way," Peter said, and there was a hurt, stubborn look on his little-boy face. He finished his milk and started on his pikelets. "I don't like apple sauce, either," he added with finality. He waited for something to happen, but Clinton, braced to settle the issue, saw the absurd white rim of milk around the defiant mouth, and his heart softened. He wanted to take his napkin and wipe it off. But he felt awkward with his son, as though the sudden departure of Louise's loving from the house had made them strangers. He folded his napkin on his lap. "Wipe your mouth," he said abruptly. He pushed his chair back and got up from the table. He went into the living room and sat down. He stretched his legs in an effort of composure and picked up his newspaper. But he was unable to concentrate … Louise, he thought. If she were here they'd all be laughing now, the three of them. Louise would see to that. He suddenly realized that he resented his son for forgetting so soon. But that was absurd! To a child a day was like a year, and sorrow was the business of yesterday. Peter came into the room. Clinton watched him, pretending to read the paper. The boy went to the bookcase and took down a large book. He carried it to the centre of the floor and lay down in front of it. It was an art book with full-page colour illustrations. He started with the front of the book, as he always did, and studied each picture carefully, His chin was resting on his hands and the circle of milk was still around his small mouth, giving him a pathetic, clown-like look. When he finished the book he turned back to the front page. Down in the corner, in her own handwriting, was Louise's name. Clearly and carefully, Peter traced each letter with his finger, the first name and the last. Then he turned and looked intently at his father, and Clinton knew there was something he wanted to say, something that had to be said delicately and subtly. "You like that book, don't you?" Clinton asked. "Yes," Peter said. There was a silence, and then he said, "It belonged to my mother, didn't it?" "Yes," Clinton said. "I gave it to her myself. As a matter of fact, she rather cherished that book." Peter's youthful gravity filled the room. He looked very small and alone. And then Peter said, using his father's phrasing, so foreign to his own vocabulary, "As a matter of fact, I rather cherish this book, too." He was trying, Clinton guessed, to make his plea for affection, his cry of loneliness sound irrelevant, as if it had no connection with the conversation. Clinton swallowed to release the sudden tightness in his throat; the newspaper slid to the floor and he held his arms open to his son. "Come here, Peter," he said. But Peter hadn't finished yet. "If you want me to eat apple sauce, I'll do it," he said. "And if you don't want me to drink my milk without my pikelets, I won't do it. I mean if ---" "I know what you mean," Clinton said, laughing. "You can do just as you please about either of them. Now come here and let me wipe your mouth." Peter bounced across the room and in one second he was on the chair and in his father's arms. And they were laughing, both of them, just as they used to laugh when Louise was there. 65. What does the underlined sentence imply? A. Peter waited for his father to hug him. B.
