英语卷·2017届重庆市万州纯阳中学高三11月模拟考试(2016-11)

纯阳中学11月高三模拟试题 2016.11‎ ‎ ‎ A Almost everyone has experienced anxiety at some time in their lives, and to do so is not only probably quite sensible, too. In some sense, the feeling of anxiety is like a signal to us that we need to take action. If we are walking alone down a dark street and start to feel anxious,we might think,“This is getting frightening.I think I’ll nip into the pub and call a cab.” so we will do something to get ourselves somewhere safe.If we have an exam coming up,we are likely to start feeling anxious. We might think,“I can’t pretend it’s not happening.I’ve got to revise or I’ll totally mess up.” Once again, anxiety can guide us to behave in a way that is in our best interests.‎ However, anxiety can also imprison us.It stops us from doing what we would like to do and living our life fully.Feeling anxious is undoubtedly a fact of life,so our goal is not to live an anxietyfree life but to live our life with acceptable levels of anxiety in a full way.‎ Anxiety can be abnormal when it starts to take over our thinking processes and our lives, and makes it difficult for us to function. It is likely that people who experience extreme and upsetting levels of continual anxiety are suffering from a disorder called Generalised Anxiety Disorder(GAD).‎ The most important feature of GAD is that people experience quite severe anxiety and worry about a wide range of things over long periods of time.Other symptoms include finding it difficult to control the worry, getting easily tired, difficulty concentrating and sleep disturbance.‎ People with GAD tend to worry about the same kinds of things as people without GAD—only they fall into worrying more easily and tend to spend more time worrying.Research suggests that our worry tends to cluster around particular themes including our health, finances, relationships, family, work and finally, worry about worrying.‎ Some worries are realistic(“real event” worries). For example,if I worry about the size of my credit card bill, then this problem exists and my worry arises from a real problem. Some worries are about things that may never happen(“hypothetical event” worries).Sometimes, real event worries spiral(螺旋形上升) into hypothetical event worries. For example,“My neighbors are noisy” could spiral into “I’ll never be able to sell the house.I’ll be stuck here for ever.”‎ Even though you may always have tended to worry, you can still learn to understand it and get on the top of it.Extreme worry is not a part of your personality, and it’s not something that you should accept as unavoidable.‎ ‎1.According to the passage,a person with GAD may .‎ A.try to do something to get himself somewhere safe B.focus his mind fully on what he is determined to do C.be anxious about one special thing for a long time D.be continuously worrying about some particular things ‎2.It can be inferred from the passage that .‎ A.GAD can hardly be cured once one suffers from it B.anxiety actually has both positive and negative sides C.most people have experienced different levels of GAD D.hypothetical event worries are mostly from real event worries ‎3.The difference between people with GAD and normal people lies in .‎ A.whether they feel worried B.what they worry about C.how they experience anxiety D.why they get into anxiety ‎4.Which would be the proper title for the passage?‎ A.Anxiety:Learn to Understand It B.GAD:Learn to Keep Away from It C.How to Get Rid of Your Anxiety D.How to Distinguish Anxiety from GAD B An old man in a faded yellow shirt sat in a windowless room on a raised concrete form. The only source of heat came from somewhere beneath the plastic mattress and the rough blanket the blankfaced police woman had handed him after taking his thumb prints. He heard voices and metallic clang as the cell door swung open.‎ At the front desk a tired looking policeman handed the old man back his belongings, his wornout cap and the Seiko watch that had stopped working the day his beloved Evelyn left. The policeman dramatically held the blue plastic bag at an arm’s length to the old man who took it and made sure its contents were undamaged:the goat meat, palm oil, leaves and spices. He ignored the confused expression on the officer’s face and signed the document declaring he had been returned the possessions they had taken off him the night before.‎ No one spoke to him as he walked slowly towards the exit.‎ ‎“Mr.Easynwa?”he stopped and prayed to God who now took care of Evelyn to please take him far away from this unhappy place of expressionless faces, clipped accents and people who did not even attempt to pronounce his name right.‎ ‎“Ezenwa,”he said and looked at a woman with tangerine lips, her name tag said Jessica Harlow,Social Services.“A bit far from home,”she said as she drove fast and with confidence the way Evelyn used to.He wondered if she meant the 50 miles from Liverpool or the 50,000 miles from Enugu,a city in Nigeria. He did not bother replying as this woman had plenty to say about the weather, bad drivers, her daughter’s school play...‎ At last she drew up outside the block of flats where he lived.‎ ‎“Got here in the end,”said she seriously,“Really Mr.Easynwa,if you keep getting lost,we will have to consider moving you into a home.”‎ ‎“No need.I was not lost,” he answered. He carefully rolled up the sleeves of the oversize bomber jacket he wore and turned on the tap to wash his hands, relieved the pipes were not frozen. In a clean pan he placed the chopped pieces of goat meat. The herbs and spices that had taken him three months to track down, the uziza seeds had taken him into the heart of Granby Market in Liverpool, his uchanwu leaves down a shady back alley in Manchester, and yesterday, among other food items, the finest goat meat from a Sierra Leonean Butcher in Birmingham. That had taken some time,so much that he missed the last train and when the police found him shivering outside the locked up station,he was so cold that he couldn’t answer loudly enough the pinkfaced big copper who yelled in his face,“What’s your name sir?”spraying his face with spittle(唾沫) as he did so,leaving them with no choice but to search an exhausted, frozen old black man and finding him in possession of mysterious condiments(调味品) including a bag of dried bitterleaf which could of course be mistaken for anything that resulted in him getting ‎ charged with...possession.‎ He lifted the lid of the bubbling soup, the room was filled with the rich and spicy scent of his culinary(烹饪的) effort. He served two bowls, taking the chipped one and placing the other opposite where Evelyn would have sat.He would tell her about his adventure. It was their anniversary and this was the perfect pepper soup to celebrate.‎ Ken Onyia,UK (Nigeria)
