So in this period we shall have the students, after warming up by talking about Manhattan, read THE BEST OF MANHATTAN’S ART GALLERIES, read aloud to the recording, and discuss what to see. The lesson will close down by students writing to the art gallery committee. ‎ Objectives ■ To help students read the passage THE BEST OF MANHATTAN’S ART GALLERIES, FROM PRIDE AND PREJUDICE on page 5‎ ■ To help students use the language by listening, speaking and writing as wall Procedures ‎1. Warming up by talking about Manhattan Have you ever heard of Manhattan?‎ Manhattan is an island bordering the lower Hudson River. It is one of the five boroughs that comprise the City of New York. The borough is coterminous with New York County and includes the Island of ‎ Manhattan, as well as several other smaller islands and a small portion of the mainland (see geography). As of 2000, the population comprised 1,537,195 people, but the county is the smallest in the state of New York based on area.‎ ‎2. Discussing what to see Now go in groups of four to visit art galleries in New York. Closing down by writing to the art gallery committee ‎ Folk art is a valuable treasure of our nation. Now think and write to an art gallery committee about a folk art you like most. In the letter or email, details of the folk art are to be presented, and suggestions are to be given about the protection and development of the folk art.‎
