And even after all the diagnostics, upgrades, and money spent, the amount of time waiting for that spinning wheel or hourglass to disappear never seems to get any shorter. Your once new,lightning-fast computer just keeps getting slower as each day passes. Fortunately, there's a new device that has recently hit the market. What is it then? It's called Xtra-PC. And if you have an old, slow computer,it is exactly what you've been waiting for. Xtra-PC is a small thumb drive you simply plug into your computer's USB port and it instantly transforms your old computer to like new. It works with any computer(Mac or Windows)laptop, desktop, and notebooks made in 2004 or later. It is the cheapest and easiest solution to getting your computer fast again. With Xtra-PC,there's no need to spend hundreds of dollars on your old computer—which only has it peter out in another year or two. It makes no sense. But getting Xtra-PC does, which is why the big computer companies are against this incredibly powerful little device! How Does It Work? Super easy! All you have to do is... Plug it in. Simply plug Xtra-PC into a USB port while your computer is turned off. Turn Your Computer On. Select ‘Boot from USB’ and bingo, you're good to go. Enjoy New PC—In less than 15 minutes you'll be shocked at the difference in the performance of your computer. What Can I Do With My Like New Computer? Everything! With Xtra-PC you'll be able to do the things you normally do,such as surfing the web, sharing on social media, writing emails, watching videos, playing games, safely shopping online, and more! How Much Is This Going To Cost Me? This is not a joke. Xtra-PC is only$24.99! And they offer a 30-Day money back guarantee. As the pace of life continues to increase, we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through life, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body. Stress is fl natural part of everyday life. There is no way to avoid it, since it takes many and varied forms-driving in traffic, problems with personal relationships are all different forms of stress. Stress, in fact, is not the “baddy” it is often reputed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health. The amount of stress a person can withstand depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities. Others lose heart at the first sight of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact we make a choice between “fight” or “fright” and in more primitive days the choice made the difference between life and death. The crisis we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. All the energy is shifted to cope with the stress. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease have established links with stress. Stress in some people produces stomach disorders, while others experience tension headaches. Since we cannot remove stress from our 1ires, We need to find ways to cope with it. 4.People are finding less and less time for relaxing themselves because . A.they are working harder than they used to B.they are often too busy to find the time C.they are suffering from the effects of stress D.they are not clear of how to relax by themselves 5.What is implied(暗示)but not stated(陈述)in the passage? C.Stress can lead to serious health problem if one is exposed to it for too long. D.If one gets into the habit of relaxing every day he can overcome stress easily. 6.The underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 suggests that . A.stress is not so terrible as people often believe it to be B.stress has a bad reputation of causing ill health C.stress is not always a bad thing for people D.stress is always harmful to people all the time 7.According to this passage, which of the following statements is true? A.Relaxation in life only benefits us mentally. B.Different people can stand different amounts of stress. C.All the stress can lead to poor performance. D.Large amounts of stress is important to people's lire. 8.What is the writer's attitude to stress according to the passage? A.Stress produces both positive and negative effects on people. B.Stress should not be rid completely from the life. C.Stress as well as relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body. D.People usually work better under stress if they are healthy. C BEIJING (AP) — Sandstorms whipping across China shrouded(遮蔽) cities in an unhealthy cloud of sand Monday, with winds carrying the pollution outside the mainland as far as Hong Kong and Taiwan. It was the latest sign of the effects of desertification: Overgrazing, deforestation, urban sprawl(无计划地扩展) and drought have expanded deserts in the country's north and west. The shifting sands have gradually moved onto populated areas and worsened sandstorms that strike cities, particularly in the spring. Winds blowing from the northwest have been sweeping sand across the country since Saturday, affecting Xinjiang in the far west all the way to Beijing in the country's east. The sand and dust were carried to parts of southern China and even to cities in Taiwan, 1600 miles (2600 kilometers) away from Inner Mongolia where much of the pollution originated. The sandstorm in Taiwan, an island 100 miles (160 kilometers) away from the mainland, forced people to cover their faces to avoid breathing in the grit(砂砾) that can cause chest discomfort and respiratory problems even in healthy people. Drivers complained their cars were covered in a layer of black soot in just 10 minutes. In Hong Kong, environmental protection officials said pollution levels were climbing as the sandstorm moved south. Twenty elderly people sought medical assistance for shortness of breath, Hong Kong's radio RTHK reported. The latest sandstorm was expected to hit South Korea on Tuesday, said Kim Seung-bum of the Korea Meteorological Administration. The sandstorm that raked(掠过) across China over the weekend caused the worst "yellow dust" haze in South Korea since 2005, and authorities issued a rare nationwide dust advisory. Grit from Chinese sandstorms has been found to travel as far as the western United States. China's Central Meteorological(气象)Station urged people to close doors and windows, and cover their faces with masks or scarves when going outside. Sensitive electronic and mechanical equipment should be sealed off, the station said in a warning posted Monday on its Web site. State television's noon newscast showed the tourist city of Hangzhou on the eastern coast, where graceful bridges and waterside pagodas were hidden in a mix of sand and other pollution. In Beijing, residents and tourists with faces covered walked along sidewalks to minimize exposure to the pollution. A massive sandstorm hit Beijing in 2006, when winds dumped about 300,000 tons of sand on the capital. 9. The passage tells us that the sandstorms mainly came from . A. Xinjiang B. Hangzhou C. Inner Mongolia D. Beijing 10. The underlined word, “respiratory” (in Para.4) means . A. walking B. digesting C. hearing D. breathing 11. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A. Taiwan is 1,600 kilometers from Inner Mongolia, where the pollution originated. B. It is not so common for South Korea to issue a nationwide dust advisory. C. It is not the first time that Beijing has been hit by a sandstorm in history. D. In Hong Kong some old people need help for shortness of breath caused by sandstorms. 12. We can infer from the text that . A. the sandstorms were purposely made by China B. China was to blame for the pollution C. the sandstorms badly affected the air quality in US D. China's Central Meteorological Station will be closed D A new international study shows that some people's biological clock plays a powerful role for their life expectancy, regardless of lifestyle choices. Published in the latest issue of Aging on Wednesday, the study has found the most definitive evidence to explain why some people keep healthy lifestyle but die younger than others. Geneticist Steve Horvath from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), led a team of 65 scientists around the world to record age-related changes to human DNA, analyse blood samples collected from 13, 000 people and estimate their lifespan. A higher biological age, regardless of actual age, consistently predicts an earlier death, the study says. “You get people who are vegan, sleep 10 hours a day, have a low-stress job, and still end up dying young,” Horvath said in a statement. “We have shown some people have a faster innate aging rate.” The findings discovered that 5 percent of the population ages at a faster biological rate, which translated to a roughly 50 percent higher than average risk of death at any age. “The great hope is that we find anti-aging interventions that would slow your innate aging rate,” Horvath said, adding that “this is an important milestone to realizing this dream.” 13.How was the study conducted? A.By collecting and analyzing data B.By interviewing lots of people C.By researching previous studies D.By studying different lifestyles 14.Some people keep healthy lifestyle but die younger than others because____. A.their biological clock is not powerful enough B.the most definitive evidence has been found C.they have a higher actual age than others D.they ages at a relatively faster biological rate 15.According to the study, it can be inferred that____. As for school activities, students mainly hold two views. Many students are very enthusiastic about school activities because they think that learning from textbooks is not their only task and they should take every chance to get some practical knowledge. Besides, after long hours’ study, they can relax themselves by practicing in school activities. However, a large group of students take little interest in them and spend most of their time on study. They believe that they should make full use of time to study and that school activities have nothing to do with their further development. As far as I am concerned, I prefer the first view. On the other hand, we can learn a great deal from other students we meet in activities. Furthermore, modern society requires many qualities of young students, so “book worms” can’t keep up with the times.查看更多
